It is definitely possible to get these big plants with only natural light, but it can take the patience of Job. On a sidenote, I am starting to see roots on the Stargazer cuttings that I took so it is looking good for you.

Beautiful hoyas, hamiltoniorum is wow!!! I've been in love with hamiltoniorum from the day one of my hoya adventure and had cutting for 5 year before its started to grow. From 3 leaves I have 6,7 now, I probably won't see the blooms soon but I am happy I didn't give up on it. Congratulations on the blooms!!!

Thank you Jelena! I'm glad that I am not the only one who has found hamiltoniorum to be a slow and somewhat problematic grower. It seems like once it gets to a certain size, it is capable of much quicker growth. I too almost gave up with this one, but am also glad that I stuck with it.

Doug, I've been watching your channel for over 7 years now and am always amazed at the beauty of your plants! You inspired me to start my hoya journey. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on here and your website! I bought an imperalis rauschii from you on Ebay several years ago and cannot get it to grow like yours. I still go back and watch your video you did on it to admire its beautiful. Happy to see you are making more videos. Congratulations on getting many more subscibers!

Thank you for being such a long time watcher of my videos Pascali! After years of growing spectacular imperialis plants, I went through a rough patch for a couple of years and came pretty close to losing that Hoya. I now believe that it was probably a heavy infestation of these invisible to the naked eye flat mites that everyone is talking about. After treating the plant with sulfur, it started growing so much better. It is something to think about if your plant is refusing to grow. As far as subscribers, I believe that I have about maxed out the number I'm likely to get as I think that the pandemic high numbers of Hoya growers are starting to fall away.

Doug, another awesome video. I still have sulfur residue on my hoyas. I did see tiny red dots, which I presume were flat mites, on some of my hoyas using a jewler's loop prior to the sulfur treatments. All have since grown numerous leaves and vines.

❤❤❤ unusual flowers. Wow your Australis is full of flowers. My is pretty small . Huge prices drop in Australia due to big box store (Bunnings) mass releasing Lisa super cheap 3 plants in one pot for $25. I bought 2 pot. Now I have heaps of Lisa. They were around $100 per small plants a year ago. Hahaha Hoya prices have fall fast in Australia . My guess is their price would go back to before the boom. Kalimantan now can get for 30-50 compare to a few hundred just a year before. Yay!!! Still a lot of high prices illegal imports . Lol

I think that we are going to begin to see a large drop in Hoya prices worldwide starting this year. Now that we have moved beyond the pandemic a lot of people are dropping out of the hobby. In addition, there are so many people that have become vendors and even put in huge greenhouses just to sell Hoyas. Except for the very newly discovered Hoyas prices are going to drop like a rock.

@@DougChamberlainVTHoyas yeh totally agreed. Too many sellers and not enough buyers. People here are in hurry to sell. Prices dropping fast and keep droppings. I think same story with aroid and others. Thai nursery like AH are putting out of new slightly different veiny Hoya or silver or splash to get interest. Aceh Hoyas are new so they are in demand . As always what a great display !!! I don’t know how you’re able to keep up with watering all by your self and filling the humidifiers. How many Hoya do you have at one time? What do you do with them when you do get rid of them?
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas Жыл бұрын
The plants that you see upstairs only take on average about 2 hours/week to care for. The problem is with the grow tent Hoyas in the basement; that does get overwhelming at times, and sometimes I don't even know how I do it. In the old days, before Hoyas went through the roof in price, I actually used take a few cuttings and throw the plants out, but now I generally sell what I don't need, or want on eBay during the warmer months.

Two heaping tablespoons of this product mixed in a two liter pump sprayer: www.amazon.com/Bonide-BND141-Fungicide-Organically-Controls/dp/B000HA95W2/ref=sr_1_14?crid=15GE7MWDN4G5O&keywords=sulfur+garden&qid=1679501090&sprefix=sulfur+ga%2Caps%2C112&sr=8-14 spray all surface of the plant until it drips off. It either acts as a tremendous fertilizer, or kills off the invisible flat mite, or does both at the same time, but it works.

Another question, Doug: Have you ever tried giving your Hoyas Epsom salt? I think apart from the magnesium, which has proven favorable especially when darkness of leaves is not up to snuff, the sulphur contained just might make them more resistant to those pesky flat mites from within. What is your take?
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas Жыл бұрын
I have never tried Epsom salt on any of my plants. I did have one Hoya growing friend however that tried it on all of his Hoyas with disastrous results and it killed a number of them. I have no idea what concentration he used, but after hearing that I never had the desire to try it myself.

I felt the same way you did for 2 years and then then it started growing like crazy. Here is everything I did: Change your medium to mostly coconut husk chips. Start growing in small clear containers and up-pot as needed. Get in a weekly watering routine, and water just before medium is dry - doesn't seem to want to fully dry out. My nutrient solution is made up of 4 oz of prepared Liquidirt and 1/8 tsp of Jacks 20-20-20 fertilizer per 2 liters watering can filled with water. I kept it about 24 inches under a 200 watt grow light and it always had humidity above 50% Here are the links to the products I used to flower it: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PHNQSP9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 www.amazon.com/dp/B00KWYHXXQ?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder-t1_k0_1_5&amp=&crid=47NOW72BLWEB&amp=&sprefix=jacks Hope this helps!
