I had the same thing happen at my bow shop when I was test driving an RX-8. I drew it past the draw stops (they obviously didn't catch the string) The cams were too far left. The shop used a draw board to slowly rotate the cams and let it back down. There was no damage whatsoever. Ended up buying a Lift that day. One less thing to worry about happening again at the moment of truth.

This is exactly why i do a check to make sure all screws and any other moving parts are tight and in specs before and after shooting

Looks like “cam lock” this can happen when a bows draw length is set in a module position but the draw stop is set in a longer position causing the cam to over rotate and lock out effectively creating 100% let off

Have had to get customer bows out of cam lock and found that the Last Chance adapters that were made for pressing Hoyt beyond parallel limbs that I purchased to work on my Hoyt Carbon Defiant 34 come in really handy for these situations. In this case here I doubt that the pin simply fell out and caused this near disaster. It looks as though the draw stops were either not set to match the draw length or they were not properly locked down. Either way would have caused over-rotation of the cams which leads to cam lock.

That sucks man. I had this exact thing happen to me with my first bow ever a year ago. It was a Blackout Epic V2. I had already returned 1 bow because it derailed (no dry fire) and they had to replace the strings on the first bow because the cable guard was cutting them. When I got the new bow this exact same thing happened, and the person I was shooting with grabbed it because they “knew what to do” and it went off, the string slapped him in the junk and he had to go to the ER. I returned it and told them I wanted a refund or a different bow and ended up switching to a Diamond. Had NO issues with that bow but upgraded to a Lift this year. Sorry to hear yours wasn’t covered by anything. Hoyt should’ve made it right.

So whoever stole it may have messed with the draw length or draw stop setting because they didn’t know what they were doing. I have owned and as a bow technician worked on a heck of a lot of Hoyt bows and I have never seen this happen without the bow being improperly set up.

@@Finaltraceoutdoors I’ve never had it happen to me in 40 years of shooting archery and I’ve owned a lot of bows including 12 Hoyts. But every time I had a cam locked bow come in the issue had been caused by the draw stop being in the wrong position and in some cases they had forgotten to reinstall the draw stops often setting the draw length or doing work that require removal of the cams such as in limb replacement. Whatever the cause, I am sorry that it happened to you. It’s scary as Hell when you have to worry about the tension causing your limbs to blow up. I am a professional Archery Technician and have had to fix this issue several time for customers in the shop. All kinds of different brands too. Usually it’s caused by the draw stops slipping or some minor and easily overlooked thing like a loose module lockdown screw. From time to time make sure to check that all of your screws and fasteners are snug. I have to do this on my Harleys as well because things can vibrate loose.

Not a bow problem it's an operator problem. Don't blame Hoyt because you don't look your bow over and you or your shop don't make sure mods are tight. Same thing would happen to any bow in that situation

Happened to my Ventum Pro 30 2 weeks ago, and that wasn’t even the first warranty issue with it. Less than 2 weeks old and it started a horrible squeak in the axle when drawing. It had to be rebuilt.

I saw another youtuber have the EXACT same problem. The module bent outwards. Catching the limb, keeping it locked under pressure. This is horrible, and it eather have a loaded gun on me than carry that bow in that state.

@SouthernDrawTN routinely checking for loose hardware. I guarantee that screw for the mod was loose before the bow was drawn with all the load from cables pulled the last couple threads out the cam and the mod rotated causing the failure that was experienced.

You’d be shocked how common this type of failure is with Hoyt’s I get customers every week with the same or similar experiences . I’m not being mean or negative but I recommend stay away from Hoyt

Ouch! What did they say caused it exactly? Sorry to hear that you had no warranty. It stings to buy a new bow from a shop. The warranty is worth their weight in gold, but they are infrequently used for most folks. It's very much a double edged sword scenario.

You guys handled it fairly well. I am an old guy with over 50yrs of archery experience and I have never seen this happen. Suffering from too many surgeries I switched to a crossbow. I just bought my first crossbow TenPoint Havoc RS440. It is so new I have not even shot it yet. It is a scary beast, 400gn bolt at 440fps. Scary amount of tension in the limbs and less than 8” axle to axle.

They said a screw came out of my module causing the tension cable to slide between it and the cam.

Lack of maintenance 😂 yes checking screws is maintenance even if you don't work on your own stuff. Now with that said the bow shop that torqued thoes cam screws are also at fault.

I'm definitely a noob lol... was I commented on the short that I believe the bottom cam didn't have a stop pin and the bottom wasnt tuned right and that's why it over rotated... was that the issue? I doubt the bow being 2 years old will be the reason lol...I was skipping parts of the video looking for the answer

Bottom draw fell out causing the bottom cam to over rotate and leave all the tension of the bow on the middle strings.

The hate you guys showed Hoyt is disgusting. That is something that can happen to any bow at any given time. That has happend to my Bowtech Reckoning that was designed by 2 of the best archers in the world and the bow they used to dominate the competition, but yet it still happend.
