People don't read, do not know how to write, do not have critical thinking and do not want to think, so no they do not understand books, art, music or poetry! Of course they can't even bother to read the lines are talking about lies and knives. Some people can't even google for two seconds to check if something is real or not. Of course they hear the word God or church and they think that is religious. Some people still think Einstein believed in God despite his multiple attempts to explain himself!

Ive never understood why humans can hate other humans based on their preferences, it disgusts me since they arent doing anything wrong let them live their lives no one lives forever so no one should have the right to make someones short life miserable its just i wish people could realize that. The reason im not religous is because some things certain religions see as wrong are just absurd or wrong themselves. Beliefs should unite people not break them apart. Sorry for this i just needed to get that off my chest

The meaning of the song if you didn't get it: My lover's got humor. She's the giggle at a funeral. - My lover (the church) has a sense of humor. She (the church) laughs when people die. Knows everybody's disapproval. I should've worshiped her sooner. - (the church) knows everyone disapproves of me, hates me. I should have worshipped (sacrificed) my life to her (the church) sooner. If the Heavens ever did speak. She's the last true mouthpiece. - If God ever was real and spoke to humans. She (the church) is the last sign that God exists. Every Sunday's getting more bleak. A fresh poison each week. - Every Sunday, the day when people go to church, is getting more dark and painful to live through. A fresh layer of poison and pain is applied at the church every week. "We were born sick", you heard them say it. - "We were born gay", you heard the church say we have a disease. My church offers no absolutes. She tells me, "Worship in the bedroom". - My church doesn't allow any impurity and is merciless against those who are considered impure. She (the church) tells me "The bedroom is meant for worshipping God, not for having gay sex." The only Heaven I'll be sent to. Is when I'm alone with you. - I'm not allowed in heaven because I'm gay. That's why the only heaven (joy, happiness, paradise) I will ever experience is when I am alone with my gay partner. I was born sick, but I love it. Command me to be well. - I was born gay and I'm proud of it. Force me to be cured. A-, Amen, Amen, Amen. Take me to church. - Spiritual affirmation. Take me to the church to be sacrificed as a cure for my homosexuality. I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies. I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife. - I will be slaughtered and sacrificed like a dog, because the church doesn't consider LGBT people human beings, at the shrine of your lies - referring to the altar and the church glorifying the lies of the bible. I will tell you that I'm gay, and you can prepare the weapon you will use to slaughter me for it. Offer me that deathless death. Good God, let me give you my life. - Offer me access to death without death, also known as heaven, let me into heaven. Good God, murder me and sacrifice me. If I'm a pagan of the good times. My lover's the sunlight. - If I'm an outcast from today's society. My lover (the church) is the sunlight that will burn me to ashes. To keep the Goddess on my side. She demands a sacrifice. - To appease the Goddess (the church) and stay on her good side. She (the church) demands that my impure, homosexual life is ended by being sacrificed to God, referring to homophobic biblical verses like Leviticus 20:13. Drain the whole sea. Get something shiny. - Referring to draining the Holy See, the Vatican. Destroy the Vatican and take back the money and gold that their temples are coated with. Something meaty for the main course. That's a fine looking high horse. - The Vatican, and grandiose cathedrals and churches in general, are a rich and meaty meal for the people. That's a fine looking high horse, also known as moral high-ground. This critiques the moral high-ground the church holds over people, by hoarding wealth and building gold-plated churches while telling the worshippers of God to be humble and immaterialist. And by preaching love and tolerance despite discriminating against LGBT people. What you got in the stable? We've a lot of starving faithful. - What does the Vatican have to offer to people? We have a lot of poor and vulnerable believers of God who are starving because of all the money the church has fraudulently scammed and stolen from its believers to line their own greedy pockets. That looks tasty. That looks plenty. This is hungry work. - Referring to butchering the Vatican, and all wealthy churches and cathedrals in general, and feeding (returning) it to the poor and starving whose money was used to build them. Chorus repeated. No masters or kings when the ritual begins. There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin. - It's irrelevant who you are, if you're homosexual, you're still being sacrificed in the ritual. There is nothing sweeter or more innocent than our gentle sin of homosexuality, referring to there being nothing wrong with homosexuality. In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene. Only then I am human. Only then I am clean. - In the horrible acts of violence and oppression that religious people carry out against LGBT people in the name of God. Only then, when I have been murdered and sacrificed to God, I am considered a clean human being instead of a dog.

whats funny is that levictus 20 13 isnt actually referring to homosexuality. if you know how ancient worlds were like, theres a lot of umm lets say some group of people decided to make out with ppl under 18 which is very common at the time, therefore the verse is ACTUALLY MISTRANSLATED (from bias probably) and its actually referring to pedophilia.

Korea whilst is making greater strides, we still can't marry, we are still seen as a taboo that shouldn't be talked about. Africa and western Asian countries are also extremely heavily homophobic and can be trialed by death depending. They are willing to hurt another, spill blood, over what? God would never want this for us.. but when I listen to your music, especially work song, and this one, I feel God, in every note and beat. I feel passion and soul, I experience Gods gift of creativity. And Thank you. I've danced, and performed to this song, its special. Thank you for creating art with God, as I feel it. So, your not 'ripping the life out of a baby' because it's not a baby. It's not anything yet. And they definitely dont "decapitate" baby's. That's just fucking insane. *Sigh* alright guys, i'm gonna go ahead and address some shit because many of you need it. First off, to all of you saying the song doesn't match the video; to all of you saying "oh, he's singing to a woman, so this is stupid," and "oh why does everything have to be gay? the song isn't even about gay people": the song is about everything the church oppresses. The "woman" he refers to is not an actual woman, but a concept, which is paganism, which he talks about in the song. "If i'm a PAGAN of the good time's, my lover's (Lover is) the sunlight, keep the goddess on my side, she demands a sacrifice." He just said "since i'm pagan, the lover I've been referring to as "her" throughout this whole song is the sunlight. obviously, he doesn't mean the sun literally, but life in general, with no afterlife or spirituality in the sense of religion besides the giver of life, the sun. Paganism is the religion of the divinity of humanity, the earth, and life, and Paganism revolves around female deities, or--you guessed it--"goddesses" instead of a male god, which is why he refers to paganism as a woman." in Paganism women are worshiped as gateways into heaven, not god. given women are the gateway to heaven in paganism, he refers to paganism as a woman, and also since sex is revered as a gateway as well, no matter with whom, and the pagans believe they find holiness through bonding with another human sexually, he says "she (paganism) tells me 'worship in the bedroom.' the only heaven i'll be sent to is when i'm alone with you." "my church (paganistic church) has no absolutes, she (paganism) tells me worship in the bedroom." This song pertains to everything that is found as a sin in Christianity. "we were born sick, you heard them say it." homosexuality is perhaps the biggest perversion or sickness in Christianity, which believes that all sin is inherited from Adam, and everyone is born a sinner. this song has to do with EVERYTHING Christianity disapproves of and oppresses over, and homosexuality is highlighted here because it is nearly the biggest controversy amongst Christians and Atheists. the song DEFINITELY fits the video.

I'd like to add to that a tiny bit ; this song takes place in Russia. In Russia, they think that being homosexual is evil. That's why the people are chasing after them.
@Dermacrosis8 жыл бұрын
Survante Williams Only the second one is letting me read anything. However it still does not give the source for that being what Hozier meant by the song. Unless it is in the one I can not read. How we interpret a song does not mean that is what was meant by the artist. Ask different people what the box stands for and you will get different answers. Hozier has, so far, never given an answer when asked about it other than he wants to leave it to our interpretation. He wrote it after he broke up with his then girlfriend. Therefore he is straight or even bisexual but so far I have only ever read about him being straight.

Noneya I’m living In fear because I’m lesbian and my friend doesn’t except lgtbq+ and it’s hard to lose someone you have known for six years. My other two friends are bisexual and they have been through everything with me. They are the only ones I can trust. They are supportive, kind, loving, and they don’t care your sexuality, and they know I’m lesbian.
@user-nw8tg1pg9y4 жыл бұрын
@@van_simpsonxd7931 if your friend is your friend, she will care about you even if she doesn't understand being gay. I am a devout Christian, I do not believe that it's right to have sex before marriage. But when my friends had sex, I didn't stop being their friend, I didn't tell them they were sinners, I told them that I love and care about them, asked them if they understood about preventing pregnancy and disease, and told them I would be there for them if they ever needed me. I hugged them as they cried because the boy that ”loved” them just wanted to have sex then break up, and I encouraged them to be strong and learn from experience. It's not my job as a friend to force my friends to never sin. My job as a friend is to be a friend. If your friend can't do that, they aren't worth your time. I'm an adult now, but as you grow older you'll realize that so many people are like this. They are not true friends, and you deserve better. Best of luck to you.

Ughh I'm a Christain and I have to say some of these comments are just annoying. Hozier madeclear in one of his interviews explaining what he wrote the song about. But in MY own personal opinion based of the song and video, I belivie the song is about a gay christian who believes he was "born sick" and pleads to god to fix him or accept him for who he is. But then towards the middle of the song he says "I was born sick but I love it" which means he stops praying for forgiveness and finally accepts himself. But if you seen the video after his long journey of trying to be accepted and finally accepting himself (and even having another person accept him aka his partner in the video) it still ends badly with members of the Church killing his partner. Guys he doesn't hate the church or is "making fun of your religon" he is simply singing a beautiful song about what happens nearly everyday. I'm a christian and I even know this. To all you christains out there, whether you like it or not there are some christains (or members of the church) who will go out of their way to kill homosexuals or "exterminate gays". As much I hate this, this is sadly true. The fact that people are willing to go as far as to murdering someone just because of who they are is sickening. God created everyone just as they are, which means he made a person with disabilites born that way, or a person with cancer, born with cancer and most importantly if a person is gay he created them that way. So if a person is born gay there is nothing they can do about it, he created them that way. But being gay is indeed a sin. Inever understood why since I always belived god created homosexuals that way. That just confuses me but anyway I wish people would stop bashing Hozier for making this song. All he did was brought a true story for many people, to life in a brilliant way. I understand if people disagree with homosexuality and go around speaking about how it is wrong, hey everyone is entitled to their own opinion and freedom of speech but the fact someone could be filled with so much hate and willing to kill someone for something they can't control and more importantly has done nothing to hurt you is disgusting. Yes i'm a Christain and yes I accept homosexuals and if you don't accept homosexuals that's fine by me, that doesn't make you a bad person. But my God is a loving god, so I will be a loving person and accept and love people for who they are and not hate them and try to change them. Here's a quote for you to think about "Homophobic people are trying to make other people homophobic but homosexuals aren't trying to make people other homosexuals." Feel free to add your own opinions but I've told my piece and just hope there are more people in the world who choose love over hate. EDIT: Guys this is all my personal opinion on the song and sexuality, none of what i'm saying is connected to Hozier's explanation and description of the song himself.

i agree with most of what you said except the ending part. in the bible it does say that homosexuality is indeed a sin. but that doesn't mean we should hate people that are gay because god tells us to love everyone. we should only hate their sinning just like we need to hate every sin but we shouldn't hate anyone in particular.
@ashanab.710510 жыл бұрын
Exactly, that was my moral of the story basically "Love the sinner. Hate the sin." There's no need for all of this unneccessary hate in the world.

@danielgehring74378 жыл бұрын
+abigail hinkle You know, the more I watch this video, the more I'm pretty sure it's gotta be dynamite and the video cuts off a split second before it blows. Let me back that up, even. When writing a story, there's an adage about Chekov's Gun, that everything in the story (especially a 4-minute one) has to serve a purpose; moreover, you would certainly think that the writers of such a dramatic scene would adhere to this rule. Thus we should look at what the box actually does or represents. Now, the whole video is spent showing how these two men love each other, so there's no reason to use the box as a token of that love. It also can't be a macguffin because nobody wants it and even the people who's responsibility it is bury it. It can't be opened, so it's not a valuable thing, and is treated thusly. From this, we can tell that it has to have an impact on the story by itself, not as a proxy for an emotion or valuable thing. Yet, in the story, it does nothing, and all it does is get thrown in a fire; so we must assume it does whatever it's going to do after the scene has ended. From there, we must assume that whatever is in the box must interact with fire, because that's the only thing it interacts with (unless someone is going to pull it out of there, which is highly unlikely and would make no sense); again, it has to have a logical and useful effect on the story, so it _must_ be reactive, and the only thing I can think of that would A) Interact with fire B) Not be ruined by being pounded on with a hammer and crowbar C) Not go off immediately would be a big old insulated box of TNT.

Brad Harris Logic: I'm not homophobic. I just hate seeing people displaying homosexual behavior. That's the equivalent of saying: "I'm not racist, I just hate seeing black people". Homophobia is the last acceptable form of bigotry in our society. Nonetheless, it's just as disgusting and destructive as any other form of bigotry (racism, sexism, xenophobia). Saying you don't accept homosexuality because of a book written by MEN thousands of years ago is nothing short of asinine.
@RobSquared4410 жыл бұрын
Also according to Brad's numbers 99% of the world's population is homophobic. LMFAO, that's grossly inaccurate. A conservative scientific estimate says that about 1 in 6 people, perhaps even 1 in 5, are gay/bisexual. That alone is enough to disprove that preposterous assumption. Also, considering that a majority of North Americans and Europeans do NOT find homosexuals disgusting is further proof of the inaccuracy of that assumption. FInally, just because a majority of the population believes something does not mean it's a valid viewpoint.
