Bought this for my friend 3 years ago when starting high school. JustU.Faith/HP14Cbook She uses it alot for homework. Never had an issue with it. Still works as good as the day we got it. The colors are as advertised. We got her a coral one. Does not come with a mouse, so we purchased a wireless one. Would recommend!

For the reviewer. the speakers are the front two slits and the air venting is actually the multi-doted grills for air intake and the back below the branding is the hot air release.... just a heads up..

I think that Chrome OS is great. It's very simple and minimal. I have my contacts, email, pictures, and music all synced between my phone and laptop. If I use google docs on the desktop in my living room, then come to my bedroom laptop, I can simply log on and finish it. Google does a good job with connecting all your devices.

I just got the HP 14" Chromebook to replace my Small Samsung which i liked a lot too, I have MS so needed larger for my eyes which are getting bad. It hooks to my HP LaserJetPro so easy compared to my Samsung. I love this HP. The battery is awesome as well. I use it all the time and get days of use in one charge.

The grills you point to on the bottom of the Chromebook are NOT the speakers. Speakers are the two slots on the opposite end. One of the grills is the cooling fan intake.

Everyone has the right to choose and use whatever they wish. When I read someone asking if it will run iTunes or windows this or that? I realize how they have chosen to limit their knowledge and options. You don't have to follow the herds. There are Open Source alternatives to all those options. Most work better, are more stable, secure and affordable than those name brands. I stopped using Windows about 14 years ago, I used Apple for almost three years after that. For just over a decade I have been using an Open Source OS and software on my laptops and desktops.. There is nothing I did before that I can not do using Open Source. I started using Chromebooks about two years ago. I run a small business with my Chromebooks. Would not have it any other way.

MS Office is available through skydrive for personal use for free! As long as you're logged in. But for offline, google docs is what you need.

I am not sure how you can say that the fact it is a Chromebook as a negative. It is true that you cannot install software, but that is the point of a Chromebook, and is what defines it. It is like saying that the down side of a zebra is its strips.

You have the speakers and fans mixed up. The reason it sounds so good is because what you thought was the speakers are the fans, and what you thought were the fans are the speakers. Lol.

I heard that this model (and other hp chromebooks as well) has really short life span?! Like less than 6-8 months or so, most happened not to wake up after sleep mode. Is this true? I love chrome os idea and am having one coming in the mail tomorrow. But i would rather return it and lose some extra bucks than having a dead notebook on hand in a month!

Well, I've had my Chromebook for almost a year now and it works perfectly fine. Plus the price is pretty good if you just need it for browsing the internet, storing file, and etc.

My biggest gripe is the lack of a caps lock key - I'm one of those typists that uses caps lock rather than shift when capitalizing letters because I type much quicker that way. I fear when I buy this for my school work I'll be slowed down a lot by the transition.

I personally think this is a pretty good laptop, but the downside is that you can't download any kind of software from other than the app store which is pretty horrible since I like to use Skype, League of Legends, and other stuffs. Shouldn't have have expected much for it's price. I would give this laptop a 7/10.

Kevin Purcell Yep- whenever I have a writing project, it's my default device. Battery life holding up well, all in all very pleased. My only gripe is the relatively low-res screen - I'm glad to see Samsung introducing a higher res display so hopefully these will find their way into the HP range (at a reasonable price).

UNITY3I3 not to me - personally I prefer the richer colours of a glossy screen. My previous chromebook (the Samsung ARM) had a matte screen and I much prefer this one.

Hello! So I just got my chromebook14 today and the battery says 100% but every time I take off the plug so it doesn't have to charge anymore since it is on a 100% the chromebook dies and when i start it, it doesnt start and when i plug it again it works... so i feel like the battery is messed up or should i charge it all night first...
