HP Elitebook 745 G3 AMD PRO A10 and Dell Latitude 7270. Which one is better for programming and editing

i own this laptop. i really liked, it is the best AMD laptop, mine costed $950 with A12 and 1920 screen. I chose this one instead of a thinkpad because of the mouse buttons and the lack of AMD options from thinkpad. so far I enjoy it, run a lot of virtual machines on it and programming. it works very well, the bad is the battery life.

That was our impression of the laptop too. Really not a bad laptop, great for most applications. But the poor battery life and viewing angles was the big negatives, IMHO.

Any idea if this will support 3 monitors with the extra HP dock that has 2 display ports on the dock? I would buy this immediately if I knew it supported 3 monitors.

Not tested this but I don't see why not. Otherwise you can add more monitors via USB3 with something like Plugable USB to displayport adapter.

I got this recently with Windows 11 installed. There is some kind of SM Controller driver that can't be found. Other than that this unit is a game changer for working remotely. The Gigabit Nic has made the connection to the office much more responsive.

Yes with Adobe Premiere Pro @ 1080P footage. However more memory and a SSD would help performance. - YL

I received this laptop through work. New, out of the box, the laptop wobbles while typing and in the first 48 hrs of use the IT department had to replace the motherboard due to a defective headphone port. While I appreciate the lightness in weight of the laptop, I would prefer longer battery life in exchange for more weight. Having the battery not being user replaceable (i.e. easily swappable) as it is behind the chaise compounds the short battery life issue. The viewing angles are poor on the device compared to my 3 year old Dell Latitude business model it replaced.

@@Tanish__sahu Those models are both fairly older at this point. I normally have a preference for Dell computers. However, now I am at a new job using an HP ProBook 445 G8 w/ 16 GB of RAM and I must say that it is the best experience I’ve had with an HP laptop. I hope this helps some.

745 g2 is from June 2014 and 745 g3 was released at end the end of sept. 2015. Apart from one of them being newer, both models seem to vary in terms of specs. so you just gotta be sure to do you research on the specific laptop you're looking for. G3 is a newer laptop, and knowing the life expectancy of laptops.. usually the newer the better

@@Dovecomputers What is maximum resolution on an External Display that this Laptop supports (with Radeon R6) via the Display Port? The built-in screen resolution is 1080P - but does it support 1440P on an external monitor? Need Clarification on this.

The audio quality is fine but your voice which, I wanted to hear, is only about 5% as loud as "musical" sound at the end of the video, which I didn't want to hear. It seems that your main issue is ridiculously short battery life. While I agree that 3.5 hours of business use is pretty pathetic, I almost never use my laptops anywhere where I can't plug it in. Overall, your review was good and I appreciated the information. If not for the audio in whisper mode voice and the painfully loud musical bs at the end of the video I could give it a thumbs up.

The 745 G3 does have VGA and DisplayPort which is more than most. Can always use a DP to HDMI adapter to get around this.

@@Dovecomputers you dont need an adapter, just an hdmi-dp cable, if you dont have dp port on your monitor. actually dp is better than hdmi. You should check some of David Bombal's videos, your voice and pronounciation is almost the same :D

If you are using heavy CAD software and it needs certified graphics drivers, you will need a HP zBook. The 745 is more of a general premium business laptop. - YL
