That is called the Guru Proximity Factor, like when your car is making a strange noise, and you take it to the mechanic and once he wanders over to take a look at it after you've been waiting for half an hour and by then the car has stopped making the noise. Once the object in question is in the proximity of a Guru, it stops the problematic behavior. The Guru Proximity Factor. That is a real-life lesson...

Sorin, this was the best job! We all have run into this insanity where we go to fix something.. take it apart find nothing and it just starts to work again... Frustrating I know.. Because all of us that go to repair things be it computers, cars, washing machines you name it.. When they just start working we know that we have not fixed it properly and that whatever was wrong it will happen again.. Keep us posted if you find anything in further investigation.. or if it comes back to you again with the same problem.. Thanks my friend... carry on!

100% the cable... you moved it an the damaged part isn't connected to ground anymore and it shut down during movement once again! I think it's the section on the twistig point of the hinge. the cable is wrapped with "ground" and when the cable is damaged at some point, it comes and goes. OR.... ou said, that the screen got repaired before. Maybe the guy damaged the cable clamping it somewhere during reassembly.... but like you alredy said, replacing the cable is the safest and best thing to do. Maybe it's working now but closing the screen once or twice after assembling the whole thing, the failure is back and then you're just more pissed. Great Videos! Always love to watch!

Like so many other comments also testify, you’re superb at explaining problems and taking things in a logical, step by step approach.

Thank you Teacher Sorin! This was a great video showing how a screen can cause problems. My bet is its the connector on the screen which wasn't installed correctly when someone messed with it. Thank you again Sorin!!!!!

From my perspective at 22:00, the cable connection to the screen as you turn it over is askew. We already decided that the screen had been replaced, or at least opened, I think the connection to the screen, the golden fingers, was not made properly. I could be wrong

Hi man!! I am strongly believe something going on with ribbon cable or some from your components had a an EMF, and you just discharged with the multimeter. I had the same problem on a HP EliteBook 840 G5. Based on your video, i slapped it around a bit, twisted, and knocked a bit. I'm not sure if the power light was on or off before starting to give it some gentle tough love, but it still did not show any other sign of life before I gave it a bit more love. Then I saw the caps lock light up for a moment... a bit more love and then keyboard light come on and it booted as normal. I have no idea where the problem actually was as I didn't even open it up.

Great vid! Had the same problem with the flex screen cable on dell e7440 . Because f the short in the cable few mosfets on the motherboard have died and power management chip was gone, partially burning the board.

Nice video, thanks for sharing. I have a similar HP Pavilion 15. Terrible design as it requires removal of almost all components just to replace the harddisk. My guess for this fault is a short in the pinched cable. As the screen was opened before it could also be that the connector was misaligned, causing a short on one end.

I think I see what could potentially be the problem. Sorin mentioned that it looked like the screen casing had previously been removed. If that is true, the person who did it probably didn't have the cable all the way on the screen. Following up, when he disconnected the cable from the screen, no short. He then checks the screen inverter caps, fuse and mosfet, no short. He then reconnects the cable to the screen, no short. In summary, the only thing possibly wrong was the cable to the screen not all the way in.

Hi Sorin, if you check by replaying your video, you'll see the connector on the back of the screen was slightly out and not fully plugged in socket... May be that was the cause for the short. When you plugged out and reinserted again, you seated it in the correct way and the short is gone away... Ciao from Italy

If you look very closely you can see the very spot at which his fingers are at the bottom of the screen and when he squeezed the PCB board when the laptop loses power. The problem is at the screens ribbon cable where it connects to the left side of the connector. These types of connections that are in a lot of the Newer type of electronics are very problematic and are often overlooked by some of the best electronic technicians.
@bedandbreakfastfan70885 жыл бұрын
Indeed the worst case. Sometimes its just a corroded contact point causing a short and sliding the contacts across eachother accidentally clears it. Happens to me frequently the laptop recycling/repair business because we get a lot of dirty machines.. Makes it very tricky to know if your work is actually done.

question. I have a hp laptop here that will not power on and I am trying to diagnose and fix myself. the charger is working perfectly, dc-in plug is working fine, 19v is reaching the motherboard. When I unplug every cable except for the power cable, the charger light is still not coming on and laptop is still not turning on. all the capacitors I checked are fine, I can't seem to find any short circuits. I am stumped, what can I check to find the problem?

I have never had an issue with my hp omen. Since I bought in 2017. Only recently noticed my charger would show a orange charge light for split sec then go white and not charge. At 1st it wasn't working and all of a sudden it was charging normally, so I just ignored it. Next time I used, it done same thing. I was checking the connector and seeing if loose. Again it just wouldn't work and then I noticed it decided to charge again. After about 3 times of this happening, I figured it would just sort itself out. Then today, it just wouldn't fix itself and now the battery has depleted, I can't charge it up. It just flicks orange and then goes off. 🙃
