Thanks a lot from México fine sir, I cleaned and lubed with molykote the gears, also serviced fusor in my HP1320n, but nothing seems to fix a doble sheet jamming. Looking for a solution, then I saw your uploaded video, and found the same situation with this piece of sticky foam. I was suspecting that the problem was here, but your very informative video confirmed. I am in a task of fixing my 6 broken HP 1320 printers, but this situation I encountered got me stuck with printers number 3 and 4. You surely deserve and won a 24 pack of cold beers. This is a great video. Two extra tips. 1: The wire to the solenoid is held in place by three small clips on the top. Unthread it and it comes out so much easier. 2: Use a cotton bud with some surgical spirit of rubbing alcohol or to clean the surfaces rather than putting the tape on. Quicker, less fiddly, and there is zero chance of it falling off at a later date and getting entangles in your printer.

About 9 months ago I used a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol to clean the residue, but it didn't help. I then saw a video (I forget which one) which recommended using shrink tubing, not electrical tape. I just tried that and now the problem is done.

Another HP1320n saved from the scrap heap by your post. 🙏 The pad had turned into a sticky goo and was very "reliably" causing the printer to pick up two sheets at once. I've seen it suggested that the pad was designed to prevent any residual permanent magnetism in the solenoid armature from holding the solenoid on too long - if that was the case then it's a bit ironic that the end result was the exact opposite of the intended effect! As there was no sign of any permanent magnetism in my example once the muck was cleaned off with isopropyl alcohol, I didn't bother with the insulating tape worried (like others commenting) that I'd be storing up a similar problem for the future. I did notice, once the printer was up and running again, that the "clack" of the solenoid when it energises was much more prominent. Perhaps the foam pad was more about managing the noise? Anyways, I quite like to hear the mechanism doing its job properly, so I'll remember your post and silently thank you every time I hear it in the future!

This also works if envelope feeding does not work (i.e. tray 1). Also, be very careful with the plastic. It's old and brittle and will break. Tape is unecessary. Just clean with alcohol. Thanks for the video!
