HP Mini-Note 2133 Netbook (2008) Overview

In this video I take a look at the somewhat-interesting and uncommon HP Mini-Note 2133 netbook from 2008, released before the days of the Intel Atom processor, and in addition, was originally paired with Windows Vista.

I had the super deluxe model and studied for two Master’s Degrees with it, taking classes and doing research. Generally, I had a peripheral screen connected as well. It worked perfectly for me and I still have it. Thanks for this!

This was always my absolute favorite netbook. Just gorgeous, I lost mine on a road trip and was super bummed over it.

This was the first computer that I "owned" (I was about 11 years old at that time), when my mom bought me a bundle kit of this laptop back in 2008. It included a 2GB USB drive (which was new to me) as far as I knew and used Windows XP as the OS. I had this thing for quite a while and used it for my hobbies, schoolwork, internet surfing, and even my very early YT work it up until around my freshman year in high school in 2013, when I donated it to my cousin. Yes it was slow and tiny, but it was very capable for my needs at that time.

I still have my HP Mini 2133 from when I bought it new in 2008. The memory is 2GB and I installed Win 10 32bit. Runs alright for such an old laptop.

I think there is a graphics driver issue? Did you get around it? Sadly will never work on anything newer than Windows 10

Just fired up my wifes HP mini after it's been sitting around for about 15 years. Surprised by how responsive it was. It's been sent to ewaste now. With 1gb RAM installed, it's really had it's day.

The first run had some issues with bad solder at the factory and the CPUs basically de-soldered themselves. Had the motherboard in mine replaced a few months in and never had another issue over a decade later.

The Vista thing was that MS would no longer allow them to sell them with XP pre-installed because they were trying to force people onto their new OS. So they shipped with both Vista and XP install disks and just about everyone immediately downgraded to XP.

17:19 That glitching in my experience (with Intel shit on XP admittedly) is the result of the GPU driver's software loading itself. I found disabling the loading of the software from loading stopped it.

On my netbook days I saw some people with this model but the cpu always kept me away from it, but the construction and looks are awesome compared to most netbooks

I still have my top of the line model and still use it with Debian Linux and it is still quite usable. Even bought a new battery for mine about 1 year ago.

How long does it take to load browser tabs with debian with this laptop?

@@donvampa730 It is pretty speedy although I would not recommend running more than a few tabs with a 2GB max.

@@donvampa730 I like antiX. It is streamline, has some great tools out of the box and comes with window managers that will do just about anything a full desktop will with less overhead. MxLinux although a bit heavier on resources ran well on it too. Haven't upgraded it to the newest Debian 11 based version though. Another bug to be aware of is sometimes the video driver screws up after the system goes to sleep and you get a bunch of lines on the screen. It is a longtime glitch with the Via GPU. Just close the lid again till it sleeps and open it again and it basically sorts itself out.

I have the 2140 model and wow, the higher res screen makes it all the difference. Mine has a 1024x600, and while it works, it’s definitely far more cramped than this one

it takes a while even to open a simple software suite, it takes so long that the city lights turn on cause its nighttime, linux would be 10 times faster to no ones suprise, not just for the camera, i mean it enteriely

It is actually quite capable for the time if you have the right OS on it. Mine still runs great on Linux. The biggest issue with alot of them is they came with garbage Vista pre installed.

​@@certs743what distro are you running, I've been having trouble finding one with a functioning driver for the chrome graphics

@@Voidkitty_ I was running Debian 10 on it. The openchrome driver has been broken for years but the basic Mesa driver on Debian worked ok. Sometimes you would get weird artifacting after closing the lid but if you close and open it again the driver seems to reset and it worked just fine.
