it looks like in aus they are only (now) really selling 144hz screens which I think are nicer than the 60hz screen. It would be neat if you could compare the two screen types. Also they will place in a gtx1070 (the normal one rather than the slower maxq one, I think)

For ppl who experience 80c+ Disable turbo boost by decreasing the maximum processor thing on the power plan to 99% My temps decreased by 20c and with some gained fps (mhw to be exact)

Just got this laptop last week @ microcenter. Was blown away by the specs for $999. I got it for music production and casual gaming. The Thunderbolt 3 was essential. A 144hz screen would have been over the top amazing.

Got this one 4 days back a few points to share with people looking for user reviews in the comments: - 144hz GTX 1070 MaxQ model, working fine for now, it is a beast with those specs and has GSYNC support. - Tested GTA 5 and PUBG at ultra, managed to get over 90 fps, FIFA and CS:GO do justice to the 144hz panel. - Temperatures are a mess while gaming, it constantly runs at 85+ °C, the fans run so fast and loud, the laptop will just take off any moment. - Although completely different story at idle, CPU holds at 37-42°C, runs silent af. - Pretty decent battery life so far, 3-4 hrs on fill charge(no gaming).

Dingo01930 Thermally both would perform the same pretty much, things you've to consider for the Y530: - Nose Cam - No SSD in the lower models - Lower Battery Life - Better build quality then Omen except Omen has aluminium deck and Y530 is completely plastic built, thus Omen would have better life and rigidity. - Y530 looks bad ass in a stealthy way, Omen screams gamer. - No Thunderbolt 3 on the Y530 - Y530 and Omen screens are the same, unless you get the Omen's 144hz option, in which case Omen wins hands down. I'd go with Omen over Y530 because HP's service is more reliable in my country, overall better build, I like the gamery look, Thunderbolt 3 support and also better battery life.

Great review. I also own this 2018 HP Omen (same specs as with your video) and after the BIOS update, CPU temp is stable at 85 to 90 Celsius while gaming. GPU at 80 to 82 Celsius. I just want to add that the RGB keyboard cannot be set to white (real white). Using the command center, setting it to white gives a light blue color. Anybody out there with this same HP Omen that can produce a real white keyboard color?

I hope HP OMEN 15 and X are still available next year 2019 or atleast have a price drop. What really sold me to choose this is the IPS panel. I'm a sucker for it so much even though there's alot of competing gaming laptops on the budget Ive seen people prefer. I just love the keyboard as well. Even though its kinda cringe they still use this black/red g4m3r aesthetics, I still appreciate how they managed to make it look gorgeous nonetheless. I love black/red anywayz. I bought a cheaper version off Newegg. 1060 3gb and 12gb RAM, and I freaking LOVE it. The screens color is kind of meh, but that’s not the biggest deal for me. I play MMOs and they all play at 60FPS (I cap it) solo and 45-60FPS in raids. After the BIOS update the heat management is much better. Very happy with this purchase :)

@Shyam Sundar I have the Hp omen 15-dc0xxx, i7-8750h 6-core without Optimus. The battery life is as he said really about 5 hours for me, doing web stuff, youtube, etc. This is at the best battery saving option which optimizes longevity, you may get longer depending on what you are doing on the internet. The screen and hinges are quite well made and don't feel cheap at all, the screen has a bit of flexing but does not compromise build in the screen. You can open it with one hand without lifting the whole laptop up or pushing it away.

@Max Freedman They get quite loud when you are doing heavy gaming as should be expected really, games like Dishonored 2, Rainbow 6, Doom, etc, but in my experience they seem to turn on and cool everything down to an acceptable temp and then go back to the normal fan speeds in a short amount of time. Don't get me wrong, its not a super short amount of time but less longer than you would think considering the tempertures it reaches

For those wondering about the HP Omen 15 I5 8300h GTX 1050 with 144hz screen, I have this model and I highly recommend it. Great for gaming, much better than the mid 2017 one ( had it and got an upgrade to this), Screen is amazing to watch films with or for games, excellent quality, fan can be a bit loud at times but you get used to it and barely notice it with headphones on or audio, very awesome customisable keys+ amazing design of the Omen. I highly recommend this and is capable of playing mostly any AAA+ title game in the market. I’ve played Fortnite - no problem Rust - no problem, PUBG- no problem and so on. No faults at all

Hi, I just wanted to chime in about my OMEN 15. I can pull a constant 4.1GHz when I use hockey pucks as risers to assist with cooling, The design of the machine is awesome for cooling, but the stock risers for the OMEN don't really give enough airflow.

Well this one I'll consider over the helios 300. I like how the ports are mostly on the back, and a few one both sides, but its placed away from you so less hassle with wires.

Cj Vaans yeah this gives the Helios 300 a run for it's money, but I still think I'll pick the Helios for the display. Thunderbolt 3 is super nice and all, but not that big of an issue. The main thing the Helios doesn't have over everything else is cooling and Thunderbolt 3 but I plan on buying a cooling pad anyways

I think the same. When you have a 144hz display at the price range, you don't really care about the rest. It makes up for its drawbacks. Great for both gaming and photo/video editing. Plus I know from experience that Acer laptops are of good quality.

is there a way to remove keys from the keyboard, i just got mine 2 days ago and one of my keys seems to be stuck in a strange position, i'll press it and it'll stay stuck down for a while then pop back up really hard. i want to take it out but i don't wreck anything on the machine by accident

Man your videos actually really helped me choose between those really good value laptops. But that screen on the HP Omen is not great. 216 nits with poor color accuracy. As someone who works with photoshop and 3D applications, you know which one I chose.

Shreyans Jain It's 1100$ after taxes. Anyways, Predator Helios 300 2017 costs $1050 and it sucks compared to this one. The new 2018 one costs much more than that - and just for the screen. Predator has Bad build quality,no rgb keyboard, and it comes from a company with not such a good customer support.

I agree this updated version of the Omen is better than a Predator w/ the gen 7 processor. This laptop has just about everything for less than a $1000. Wish I would have saw it before I bought the Acer Aspire 7 ($999 on newegg). This has the 2666 mhz memory vs 2400, extra 1 TB HD, TBT3, and BT 5 over the Aspire. The 15" is good for portability too, but I had concern about heat so I didn't mind the 17" aspire which is pretty cool most of the time but as this is an explicit gaming laptop, it probably has better thermals. Plus its designed to allow for some overclocking out the box. If it were not for the restocking fee I would sent it back and got this.

Hi Matthew, I have HP Omen 15 with 1650, Tried to connect with my new 4k tv with Usb C to HDMI and also HDMI directly but i can see only 1080 in my screen resolution . I have searched the internet to get the 4k resolution but i got nothing. I'm using HDMI2.0 cable . Can you please help me with this?

Great review. I am about to buy this laptop. It has everything i need and i found it on good price. The problem is i have bad memories of bad HINGES from HP laptops. My questions is do you think those of the omen 15 will last?( i couldnt find anything about this year model hinges :( , thought i found that 2016 model had hinges problems). My lenovo just started to break(the hinges) and i do not want this to happen to my new pricey laptop. Thanks for the answer. Regards
