HP Omen 17.3 With RTX 3070TI is a powerful all around laptop that is great for gaming and more importantly for me, video editing. With 2tb of ssd storage this is the perfect video editing machine for my needs, and I can pop over and play some games that look absolutely amazing on this QHD display!!! amazing laptop!!!
I purchased this model at Microcenter. I don't have any links, sorry. Go to Microcenter.com I guess to see if it's available.

Literally just ordered one of these, was going to get a 4060 laptop bit really, this performs the same and was an absolute steal. Was waiting for 4060 for ages, but with the higher memory bandwidth and same performance near enough and the price of the 3070ti laptops on deals now it was a no brainer.

@@touaxiong636 yeah, there's some really quite different variations of effectively the same laptop. Also one with a lesser screen as well. Would be easy to for non tech savvy to see a review and order without really delving into wether it's the specification they think it is. It's kind of a really odd structure on HP's part as the differentiation between them is very easy to gloss over.

Tbh, not having a numpad is a good thing. Even though 17 inches is huge for a laptop, it still gets quite crammed when you try to fit a numpad in there, and the arrow keys have to be reduced in size. I would instead just get a separate numpad for when I need it
@harrison00xXx
@harrison00xXx Жыл бұрын
I also prefer not having a numpad, not only because of the formfactor i prefer (15-16") but also because there is no place for proper front facing speakers. Thats why basically most windows notebooks sound BAD. I dont miss the numpad on my MacBook Pro at all but its on the gaming laptop (2019 HP Omen 17) often useful, even the programmable keys are sometimes used for macros. At least i can enjoy the best speakers you can find in a 16" footprint notebook with my 2021 16" M1 Pro for not having a numpad.

No complaints. Even the fans aren't crazy loud. Powerful enough to take on desktop apps (finally nVidia). But it has to be plugged in. @@RockstarRomania Yeah... he is a typical apple fanboy. He doesn't even realize that Apple shut down there own chip factories in July of 2006 because they couldn't keep up with intel's power efficiency. So it took 14 years to devise a chip (a SOC at that) that was worth printing circuits for. And this chip still cannot game. It still isn't doing well because it doesn't do the things people need, other than light internet users. It cannot AAA game, at all. It cannot do video editing workload well. It cannot do 3d rendering well. It isn't great for programming. It isn't great for even photoshop, because they lock the RAM on the thing. So it isn't great for any industry or gamer. Just light PC users. And I will say, for people just looking to watch shows or browse the internet, or do light school-work... This thing is okay. But when you consider there are actually chips out there that accomplish this and use much less power, at 1/10th the price... Apple starts looking bad again. Apples only remaining clients are idiots that don't understand they are overpaying for a do-nothing machine.

I'm actually having issues with Davinci Resolve on my Dell XPS 15 right now. Especially when I use a digital glitch effect over a simple png file. Yeah rendering in place works but I hate having to do workarounds. It sounds like you're not having any playback issues when using effects, etc. Am I correct on that? I'm also having issues rendering out files with a lot of effects on them. Like, it won't even render at all lol. So I have to make a completely different file for the parts that are power hungry and then import them into my current project in order for the complete project to render out lol. I'm looking at the Omen to replace this computer. Right now I have 32gb ram, 3050ti, and an i7. What are your thoughts? Should I do the i7 with the 3080 ti laptop variant? Do you think this would solve my problems. Sometimes Davinci won't even freakin open on this thing.
@FitsandFun
@FitsandFun 2 жыл бұрын
I render some clips in place when I use a lot of effects on that clip. I've always had that issue when using multiple or heavy effects. But rendering it in place totally fixes that issue for me. I think thats a product of the app, not an issue with computing power.

@@FitsandFun Hmmm interesting. I'm hearing all these guys in the forum saying that 32gb with a 3050ti is barely cutting it for that program. But I wonder how much of fact vs opinion that is, you know. They say that you need a higher end GPU. But you're still having to render in place too and you have the 3070ti. So what the hell then lol. What would fix that, the damn 3080 or 90. Those get pretty pricey.

Not sure. I can scrub 4k clog3 after adding color all day. But even the basic effects tend to create some issues. So I think it's all effects related. Sometimes adding simple text even creates issues.

1440p/QHD is very awesome, the only thing im missing on my 2019 model with RTX 2080 (150W!) which 144Hz 1080p screen is a bit "bad" (but still good for its price i paid once, 1800€ new in 2020!) The thermal past just recently dried out heavily (i had once about 80°C on the CPU, over time it was rising to about 85-90, since some weeks it started to go 95+ and throttled) I got now a 0,2mm graphite thermal pad from thermalgrizzly in a try to NEVER ever care about thermal paste anymore... With the 0,2mm graphite pad i got temps around the mid 80s maximum without throttling, so about +5°C delta between a absolutely fresh thermal paste I guess the graphite pad worked. Noticable better on the GPU tho since the chip has a much bigger cooling area but considering this pad never dries out or make any problems in long terms, best decision ever. I had as i got the laptop for a short peroid of time a 190W alienware vBios on it and liquid metal on CPU + GPU, LM literally dissolved partially in the copper heatsink and mainly vaporized. Never ever i will apply LM to a notebook which is not purposefully made for it, as awesome the temps go down (70-75° on CPU, 60-64 on GPU and also noticable more silent) On Top of the bad LM performance, the 190W video BIOS wasnt also that special. + 5-10% performance gain "just" makes the mobile 2080 chip to a "desktop" one, and at mobile vs desktop the difference is nearly negliable on 2080s (Max-P, not Max-Q)

But where i absolutely can not agree with you: "the best all around laptop".... its not much thinner or lighter than my 2019 model so i am pretty sure, its just a junky, heavy thing in your backpack (if it even fits). The battery runtime might be not too bad with proper energy management settings, but far from good. But its hard for me to judge whats a good "all around" laptop since my "all around" sort of Laptop was since 2009 a MacBook Pro, actually a 2021 16" M1 Pro base model after a long time with my 2009 and 2010 15" model. In terms of battery even the biggest part of the "all around" windows laptops is much worse than any apple silicon MacBook. For me a good all around must be: - "small" enough to be portable, weight should also not exceed 1,5-2kg too much - "big" enough to be usable, so 15,4" is absolute minimum for my taste - (good) ports.... the 100MB/s of the SD card slot would be inferior for my needs, i would even wish on my Mac more than 250MB/s on internal reader. - screen.... yes this 2022s Omen 17 screen is not too bad, but there is much room to improve. Im even not that happy on rare occasions with my 16" MacBook Pro screen and its blooming at high contrast areas. - speakers... i dont know why, but for me a notebook has to have good sound. especially at home for some content watching or even creation its a charme to just avoid headphones of any kind. Sure enough you cant compare the best notebook speakers to even cheap headphones, but at least i rely 90%+ on internal speakers and the rest on wired headphones, sound/video via HDMI or rarely analoge line out on a HiFi system.
@harrison00xXx
@harrison00xXx Жыл бұрын
The thing with "all around", "allrounder" and something very gaming capable devices is.... as soon you pack a "monster" of a graphics card in a notebook... its more a gaming laptop than anything else. Unless its somewhat really portable and "thin" (like maximum 2,5cm!) i would not consider any gaming laptop a allrounder. But all these super slim notebooks, yet high performance/wattage chips are HOT, LOUD, throttle, have mostly soldered RAM and even SSDs. On Top of that.... their prices are crazy, they have partially heavy TDP reduced GPUs and so reduced performance. For me a allrounder has to have a decent, yet energy efficient, "midclass" GPU, same for the CPU, no need for 20 Cores and 40 threads or 6 GHz. I really miss the days as Intel had a dedicated "efficient performance" CPU class for notebooks for example the Core 2 Duo P series (25W instead of 35W, yet same performance!), now they have big ones for desktop with 200W+, partially more efficient notebook ones but still heating monsters and then the ULV products which perform poorly. Thank god.... ehm Apple, i really appreciate the 16" M1 Pro MacBook, best Apple product since a long time and it was even affordable somewhat. At least its impossible yet to find any good competitor in the ARM class.

according to notebookcheck, you can expect from 1 hour to 8 hours. 1 hour gaming, 2 hours load + max brightness 3-6 hours WiFi surfing, depending on screen brightness 8,5 hours WiFi OFF, min screen brightness, idle Not too good for 2020+, but usable! Considering the 3070 TI is still good enough for all games you will play the next few years... a good compromise! My 2019 model with 150W RTX 2080 is capable of 40-60 minutes gaming, 2-3 hours Websurfing (WLAN) and 3-4 hours Idle and sceen min brightness. The issue with my 2019 model: The RTX 2080 pulls even for basic, "idle" stuff and desktop like 10W alone, even more when the encoders for youtube video playback are running. The thing is.... dont expect any good runtime when using KZbin or anything the GPU will be used for hardware acceleration (even windows 10/11 desktop and design)

There is no real control, fan speeds are tied to power etc which prevent changing fan profiles without sacrificing performance, keyboard RGB is very limited, the whole software is limited basically, if HP could get the Omen Gaming Hub to an acceptable level it would be 5 star's instead of 4.

And if you don't pay your yearly warranty you are screwed as HP won't consider repairing in authorized service and also if you open your laptop to change thermal paste - clean fans - upgrade ram or ssd- you will void your warranty. Worst gaming laptops ever, worst company ever. Go for Asus models, more sturdy and basically the same price or even cheaper. Had an Asus Rog, lasted for 7 years, no issues.

Hp actually allows you to do that without voiding warranty.
