We bought a bunch of these for our video editing workstations at work, at least 16 monitors (all Puget Systems with dual monitor 3080 GPU). After a week or so , I have finally got around to checking the settings and found your review. Thanks. Quick questions, these all come up in P3 mode. I believe we should set all to HD video (BT.709), right? and back to P3 for Photoshop or just leave it? When I set HD 709, it looks really dim. Brightness is set in that mode to 10 but looks a lot better around 40 or 50. What are your thoughts? We use CreativeCloud, DaVinci, Unreal, etc. on these. Also SDR, HDR, etc, what is the best setup with Adobe for Video work with these (do I need to set something or is it automatic). Thanks

As for the low SDR brightness, you can create a new color profile under Calibration in the HP Display Center utility and then it is possible to set the brightness to 350 nits. When you save the profile into the monitor, then it is part of the Color presets. When selecting this custom preset, the default brightness is set at 93 and if you are increasing it to 100 you'll get the 450 nits which is the native max brightness of the panel. Uniformity compensation is likely not applicable anymore.

Well, if that's the case, it's pretty bad from HP as 99% of people won't be doing that.

@@TotallydubbedHD I see what you're saying, but this is a semi-professional monitor so it is not made for the average consumer.

@@SamirSleiman not an excuse - the 'pros' have even less time to do/learn such things, especially if it's an office scenario.

Hi, thank you for your review. The HDR peak brightness of your sample is on the low side (however sufficient for DisplayHDR 600 certification), mine sample goes up to around the 860-890 nits. And a roll-off in the PQ curve where white point is around the 1500. So highlights in HDR content are pretty detailed. Which HDR test did you use to measure the peak brightness? I did not notice micro fluctuations in SDR mode. Maybe it is due to the uniformity compensation which is by default active in SDR and cannot be deactivated (also not in the hidden service menu - press joystick and hold while turning on the screen) Fabric date of my sample is March 2022 and Firmware version 1.1.12.0 (I saw in the video that yours is 1.1.7.0).

Thanks for letting me know; I've reached out to HP for clarification on the sample unit but have yet to receive a reply. HDR tests are done via a solid black pattern with a white box (4-10%) and measured via an external computer plus a calibrator (the Calibrite). Seeing you're getting the micro fluctuations, would mean that there are issues with all panels - it's certainly not something I'd expect and/or tolerate at any price point; as it's simply unbearable. Think HP needs to go back to the drawing board with this one and yank the model out of production!

@@TotallydubbedHD I wrote that I did not notice any micro fluctuations. So maybe it's just your sample. However the white uniformity of my sample is not very good, right part is yellowish. But thank you for your reply, highly appreciated!

@@SamirSleiman ah sorry, maybe you edited that part, my bad! Well guess it might be the unit, but the sentiments are still valid! And pleasure!

@@TotallydubbedHD No problem! I've ordered another sample of the Z27xs and this one has much better white uniformity. Also with this second sample I don't see any micro fluctuations in brightness. Did you already had a reply from HP?

Thanks for the review. I have a question about your gamut coverage results: Why do your results state only 83.8% sRGB coverage, when the monitor specification promises 99%? I'm confused since you didn't point that out and seemed to be happy with the colour performance overall.

Glad you enjoyed the review! Because, tested is different from claimed. I'd trust my results rather than what the manufacturer claims :)

Could you check if the second USB-C socket contain DP AltMode? I mean about the one which is next to USB-A on the left back side.
