The board comes out without tools, Amigo. Simply turn the black lock located towards the front side of the case at the front edge of the mobo. Turn it 90 degrees, and the motherboard can slide forward 1", which relieves the ball locks on the back of the motherboard. It then lifts out. You can do it without even removing the processor or heat/sink fan. You would need to unplug all the plugs along the side. It was designed this was so that a service technician could replace the motherboard within 15 minutes, since these came with on-site 3 years warranty service. The only time a tool is needed is the small torx to replace the heatsink/fan and/or cpu.

Cool! I have a Z420 workstation that I got given by my grandpa, and with a few upgrades my station houses a RX580, a Quadro M4000, 2X 500 GB Solid state drives and 16 (soon to be 32)GB of memory ram. Ahéheé for the tutorial on how to take out the fan to access the extra 4 memory slots

why do the ram sticks on the left get their own cooling fan, and the ones on the right of the cpu dont?
@ragnarocking8 жыл бұрын
Probably because they're sitting directly in the path of the CPU fan's exhaust. All of the CPU's heat would dissipate over the left-side RAM modules before hitting the case's exhaust fan at the rear of the case. Add to it the heat generated by the RAM modules to the right of the CPU that would traverse the left-side modules as well. Probably a major hot spot.

Seven years late, but anyway . . . There is an air-duct missing from the workstation used in the video, fitting between the back of the psu and the motherboard. The air moved by the psu coolling fan is sucked over the RAM on the way in.

Watching this 8 years later. This should be called the Idiots Guide to taking apart the z420. Had this person done the basic research of looking at the repair (service) manual, you would know how to do this and you wouldve been prepared. This is like the Verges guide on how to build a computer. Stupid does as stupid is.
