HP410B Restoration And Alignment More Was Wrong Than I Thought

I picked up my 410b for 19 dollars. It needed allot of work. but I absolutely love it. One comment is, the cal pots on those meters are really finicky until the have been cleaned several times. The meter sits for 2 weeks then no deflection because a trim pot opens up. I finally gave them several cleaning passes. They have been working ever since. But they really are the weakest link.

I spent way too much time with that meter when I was restoring Les Paul’s API console. We’re good friends, those meters and I. It didn’t need to be that good a meter but it’s what we had in his basement-of-wonders so we used it.

The main issue I had with my 410B was the meter movement, see: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKumZKmDbcukgMk The HP design had low zero drift, I also have a Marconi TF-1041B VTVM which has similar specifications but the zero is less stable than the 410B.
