That seat pocket seems like a good spot for a small water bladder

Great review. Beautiful kayak. At 5.11”, 195 lbs I’m looking at maybe getting the Caribbean 12.

Thanks for the video. Im looking into this and other 10ft sots. Wondering which one you would recommend if tracking and speed were more importants than stability and weight?

OK, this is a pretty involved question if you actually want the correct answer. Hull speed is directly correlated to hull length. For displacement boats (kayaks) it’s 1.44 times the square root of the hull length approximately to get speed in knots. So theoretically, if the waterline is 9 ft it is 3×1.44 to calculate max speed. Therefore, most 10 footers all have approximately the same waterline length, and therefore have similar top speeds. A more efficient shape and lightweight boat will be easier to get to that top speed. Most paddlers can easily generate enough power to max out a 10 foot kayak, so you might get more efficiency with certain designs, but top speed will be pretty darn close to the same assuming your body can generate the power. Saving 15 pounds with a Caribbean 10 does make a big difference here. Your tracking question is something that is different between different models. The Caribbean 10 has a very pronounced keel line and sharp entry and exit lines and so it tracks very well for its length. As you shop around you want to pay attention to entry and exit lines that have more defined “bite” into the water, which will mean better tracking. If you look at a whitewater kayak, you’ll notice that there is a lot of rocker to allow for loose ends and more maneuverability. A recreational 10 foot sit on top that is designed for tracking will have sharper entry and exit lines and maybe even a defined keel achieved through the shape you see on the Caribbeans or a strong V hull you see on other kayaks. Your personal weight factors into this as well. Somebody that is heavier might sink the ends a little bit more and gain tracking so the best thing to do is to talk to a local independent retailer who can match the boat with with your body. For small to midsize paddlers the Caribbean 10 does great. Somebody larger just might find the footprint a bit small for their body and for stability. I’m 165 pounds and the Caribbean 10 works great for me.
