Congrats for having your own channel. This product is magical and all our customer ack. it.. You are awosome talks really well about this product. Something with TIA card is Performance controller. So unlike other vendors we use 2 controllers for very high level of performance.. Dint Knew about upgarde & Scale thing post 3.7.7... Awosome..

Thank you, Aditya! I couldn't agree more - best HCI solution out there, hands down. Thanks for the compliments too, I really appreciate it. Yep, upgrading and scaling got improved a lot with 3.7.7. But now 4.0 is out already, have you heard of it? If not, read all about it from my friend Bart Heungens' blog post: www.bitcon.be/major-update-for-hpe-simplivity-with-4-0-0-release/ By the way, lightboarding video about InfoSight coming out still this week! Stay tuned! :)

Does this simplivity server boots up with 1.44mb disk :) Like hyperconverged. can you elaborate more on the hispeed 10gb network ports. Can you add additional mezz card for more ports. and is that a good solution for vsphere 7 can it take heavy virtual workloads apps like SQL VM/ memory intense apps.
@TechEnthusiastInc
@TechEnthusiastInc 4 жыл бұрын
Haha, yep! Better rely on proven tech. 😋 Well, I just had to cover the serial number and credentials with something and 1.44MB disks were close-by so they got the job. 😁 10Gbit ports are mainly used for storage federation traffic (between nodes within a SimpliVity cluster). You can use 1Gbit ports too but obviously you will experience some performance penalty if you do. For all other traffic, 1Gbit is perfectly fine. Yes, you can add mezz cards. Check HPE Quickspecs for more information: h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getdocument.aspx?docname=a00021989enw SimpliVity can take virtually any virtualized workload you throw at it. Memory will certainly not be an issue. Only caveat is if you require ultra low latencies. For those situations, you might be better off with a more traditional 3-tier approach or disaggregated HCI like HPE Nimble Storage dHCI or NetApp HCI.

Dear Sir, May I know which power cable you use for it? is it 2x 8-pin cable kit or 8x 6-pin cable kit?

Hi Mark! I believe you mean the graphics adapter (NVIDIA Tesla M10) power connector? Unfortunately I don't have that SimpliVity unit with me anymore so I can't physically check it but Tesla M10 requires an 8-pin PCI-e power connection from the motherboard. 6-pin connector does not deliver enough power to this quad GPU board. For more, check pp. 8: images.nvidia.com/content/pdf/tesla/Tesla-M10-Product-Brief.pdf

Hi there! Thank you for the feedback. I'm glad you liked the video. :) Absolutely, that's a great idea. Actually I have one Gen10 lying around that I could use for that. @@TechEnthusiastInc thanks for your reply. Is it possible a guied tour?. Features and advantages. I understand the SympliVity great features, but in my country is a expensive solution. Right now my company plans an infraestructure upgrade. The seller offers SympliVity or Traditional Upgrade. For the costs we decided for an infraestructure upgrade. The idea is buy three servers Proliant Gen10 (2 in production an 1 in DRP) and external storage. For this reason I found your channel, but always I found the advantages of Simplivity but I didn't found a good description about a traditional proliant 380 DL. I need a impartial opinion about this, not a seller opinion :). Your channel is pure gold. Clear and profesional explanations and the video postprocessing , very cool. Congrats!
@TechEnthusiastInc
@TechEnthusiastInc 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I feel you. Upfront costs of SimpliVity (like any HCI solution) is quite a lot higher than traditional solutions. However, many customers find TCO actually lower and ROI much greater compared to traditional architecture. Maybe worth revisiting this? Having said that, it's all subjective. If you've got the skills and extra time...you can get away much cheaper with building the infra by yourself. It's like building your own PC vs. buying an iMac. 😉 Like Mac OS comes only with iMac and you can't install it on PC...SimpliVity also gives you some advantages like built-in backup, global deduplication and single console management that are not available for your own build. Anyway, traditional servers these days are immensily powerful with tons of features built in. I am sure many are struggling with the very decision you have to make and I think this video would make a lot of sense. So, thank you a lot for this request! I will definitely do this at some point. I am afraid it will be a bit more towards the fall time, though. Bare with me. Thanks also for the very encouraging words about my channel, I am very glad to see you appreciate the quality that I try to put in my videos. Have a great day, Sir. 😊

Hi! Markus. Did you check if e.g. KVM virtualization works there on the SimpliVity platforms?
@TechEnthusiastInc
@TechEnthusiastInc 11 ай бұрын
Hi Konstantin! To my knowledge, HPE SimpliVity is still only available with VMware vSphere. There was a short period of time when MS Hyper-V was supported but HPE ditched that pretty quickly for the lack of demand. But an interesting point, I would like to see a KVM version of SVT!

@@TechEnthusiastInc Thank for your answer. Seems, that I will have a chance to test it soon. But the question was mainly to get the understanding if it is in general possible to install e.g. RedHat on the platform (as this is normal DL server) and as fact, use it as a server (without axceleration HW module user for offloading routine tasks).
@TechEnthusiastInc
@TechEnthusiastInc 11 ай бұрын
Oh! Didn't even cross my mind that anyone would want to do that. 😂 But sure you _can_, it's a Proliant. Just wipe everything on it, install KVM and you'll be good to go. Just be mindful that you'll loose about 80% of what you've paid for and support is cut the moment you do that so not sure how to update firmware etc anymore. Also, don't expect much help from HPE. 😉

I know I am late on this, just starting to learn about this system, but if this is a hardware tour then why is there no mention of the array or controller in the system.
@TechEnthusiastInc
@TechEnthusiastInc 9 ай бұрын
Hi yahright! I assume that by array/controller you mean storage, right? Actually I do talk quite a lot about it. In the beginning I mention the 24 SFF SSD's that you can populate the node with and I dedicated a whole section in the middle of the video to the SimpliVity accelerator card that takes care of many of the tasks that typically falls on storage controllers in storage arrays. There's also a bunch of storage operations that SimpliVity OmniStack software takes care of. But that's not hardware talk anymore. :)

Could you please tell me the difference between HC380 and simplivity 380 ?
@TechEnthusiastInc
@TechEnthusiastInc 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jouini! In short the difference is HCI software and accelerator card. Both of them are based on the same server hardware family so no difference there. Also, both run VMware ESXi. But that's where similarities end. HC380 (now discontinued) used StoreVirtual VSA software to create the storage pool from multiple nodes. SimpliVity uses OmniStack software to do the same. In addition to just creating the pool of storage OmnkStack has the capability to do global duplication for all the data. Also, Simplivity has a built in backup for VMs. Also, some SimpliVity models have a dedicated accelerator card that takes care of dedup and other data management so that CPU can bee fully utilized by VMs. Lastly, SimpliVity can now back up data to external StoreOnce device as well as to HPE Cloud Volumes. Oh! One more thing: SimpliVity is backed by HPE InfoSight, data center AI that makes sure your environment runs in an optimal way. So, those are the main differencies. :)

@@TechEnthusiastInc thank you for the detailed answer. ive noticed that HC380 nodes should be homogenous but in simplivity is not the case (one node with omnistack, more hard disks..). is that correct ? is simplivity also designed for VDI, cloud and VM? finally, why HPE sometimes uses cisco omnistack ? thanks a lot
