1/8 Scale. This kit features all parts molded in gray with a special tree of spooky parts molded in glow in the dark plastic. It comes packaged in the old style square box featuring a new Atlantis Logo. This kit comes from the original Aurora Tooling.
"The Cask of Amontillado" (sometimes spelled "The Casque of Amontillado" [a.mon.ti.ˈʝa.ðo]) is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe, first published in the November 1846 issue of Godey's Lady's Book. Like several of Poe's stories, and in keeping with the 19th-century fascination with the subject, the narrative revolves around a person being buried alive - in this case, by immurement. As in "The Black Cat" and "The Tell-Tale Heart", Poe conveys the story from the murderer's perspective.
Montresor invites Fortunato to sample amontillado that he has just purchased without proving its authenticity. Fortunato follows him into the Montresor family vaults, which also serve as catacombs. For unknown reasons, Montresor seeks revenge upon Fortunato and is actually luring him into a trap. At the end of the story, the narrator reveals that 50 years have passed since he took revenge and Fortunato's body has not been disturbed.
Scholars have noted that Montresor’s reasons for revenge are unclear and that he may simply be insane. However, Poe also leaves clues that Montresor has lost his family's prior status and blames Fortunato. Further, Fortunato is depicted as an expert on wine, which Montresor exploits in his plot, but he does not display the type of respect towards alcohol expected of such experts. Poe may have been inspired to write the story by his own real-life desire for revenge against contemporary literary rivals. The story has been frequently adapted in multiple forms since its original publication.
The story's narrator, Montresor, tells an unspecified person, who knows him very well, of the day he took his revenge on Fortunato (Italian for "the fortunate one"), a fellow nobleman. Angry over numerous injuries and some unspecified insult, Montresor plots to murder his "friend" during Carnival, while the man is drunk, dizzy, and wearing a jester's motley.
Montresor lures Fortunato into a private wine-tasting excursion by telling him he has obtained a pipe (about 130 gallons,[1] 492 litres) of what he believes to be a rare vintage of Amontillado. He proposes obtaining confirmation of the pipe's contents by inviting a fellow wine aficionado, Luchesi, for a private tasting. Montresor knows Fortunato will not be able to resist demonstrating his discerning palate for wine and will insist that he taste the amontillado rather than Luchesi who, as he claims, "cannot tell Amontillado from Sherry". Fortunato goes with Montresor to the wine cellars of the latter's palazzo, where they wander in the catacombs. Montresor offers wine (first Médoc, then De Grave) to Fortunato in order to keep him inebriated. Montresor warns Fortunato, who has a bad cough, of the dampness, and suggests they go back, but Fortunato insists on continuing, claiming that he "shall not die of a cough". During their walk, Montresor mentions his family coat of arms: a golden foot in a blue background crushing a snake whose fangs are embedded in the foot's heel, with the motto Nemo me impune lacessit ("No one attacks me with impunity").
At one point, Fortunato makes an elaborate, grotesque gesture with an upraised wine bottle. When Montresor appears not to recognize the gesture, Fortunato asks, "You are not of the masons?"
Montresor reveals brick and mortar, previously hidden among the bones nearby, and proceeds to wall up the niche using his trowel, entombing his friend alive. At first, Fortunato, who sobers up faster than Montresor anticipated, shakes the chains, trying to escape. Fortunato then screams for help, but Montresor mocks his cries, knowing nobody can hear them. Fortunato laughs weakly and tries to pretend that he is the subject of a joke and that people will be waiting for him (including the Lady Fortunato). As Montresor finishes the topmost row of stones, Fortunato wails, "For the love of God, Montresor!" to which Montresor replies, "Yes, for the love of God!" He listens for a reply but hears only the jester's bells ringing. Before placing the last stone, he drops a burning torch through the gap. He claims that he feels sick at heart, but dismisses this reaction as an effect of the dampness of the catacombs.
In the last few sentences, Montresor reveals that 50 years later, Fortunato's body still hangs from its chains in the niche where he left it. The murderer concludes: In pace requiescat! ("May he rest in peace!").

My brother built this Forgotten Prisoner kit circa 1974. Aurora Glow in the Dark. He was 7 and I was 9. We built the entire series, bought the kits with money our parents gave us for doing good on our report cards. What could be more cool for a couple of kids. Now he is 53 and I am 55. Where does the time go? Thanks for bringing back a lot of memories!

Huge fan of this kit. Really like how you built and painted it. I have fond memories of finding this one back in the late 60's when I was about 4 years old. I do have the reissue from the 90's. But I need to get a couple of these new kits to build. I heard it through a very good source that the old Aurora Monster kits are going to be re-released in 2021. With glow parts too. I know a company is working on the license deal. Hope to see them on your channel.

So much fun watching Chris build this one with all the detail. I built all the monster models and this one too in the mid 70s. Remember "Philadelphia Freedom" playing on my clock radio that had the flip time. Back them, I only had a tube of Testors glue and a basic set of paints. Would've used all the glow in the dark parts back then, too.

Yayyy! Closing out the year with a monster...sort of. This kit was an original design that Aurora came up with in the 60s in partnership with Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. Before the days of the internet that was THE source of information for monster geeks. This kit's a blast and glad to see your take on it. Your mantra of "build for YOU" is very appropriate here since this kit isn't based on an actual movie monster or image. There really is no wrong way to do this one (or any model kit for that matter, if it makes you happy), so snobby model humbugs and critics take a hike! Since you love pirates so much, please do Blackbeard some day! Happy New Year Chris!

Can you show sometime how the washes are applied on the clothes to highlight. Im new to washes / weathering.

Craft paints like Chris uses, are water based, so of course you can use just plain old water- Im not quite sure what alcohol would do... usually oil based paints (if you use those) are thinned with turpentine or brush cleaner.
@hpiguy
@hpiguy 3 жыл бұрын
Straight alcohol will pull the craft paint right off. Water works fine. Windshield washer has a tiny bit of alcohol in it to help and some surfactants to help it soak in. Nice and cheap premixed for 98 cents per gallon.
