I did too, in either 1978/79, built this and told my dad that I wanted this car. He found me a '68 (non-SS), so that was my first car. I even had it painted Forest Green to match the color I painted the model. I decided on Aluminum Slots, not Cragar SS rims on my real car :) Really miss that car.

I built this kit, like, 40 years ago as a teenager. It's still a really cool one but I admit I'd like a do-over. That rear suspension gave me fits, mostly because I was an impatient kid! :-)

I got a Revell Nova few years back but this kit looks so much better, l passed it up at HB last week but l'm going back to get it. Back in the day I did a lot of drag cars. Living close to Raceway Park in Englishtown, which is now closed, I spent many a weekend at the track in the mid '70s & early '80s. Built the Reher, Morrison, Sheppard Camaro, Bob Glidden T-bird, the Snake and Mongoose funny cars, a few top fuel dragsters and a couple of Revells 1/16th funny cars and dragsters.
@saltydog8886 жыл бұрын
Vern Hoke Hey Vern I used to make models when I was a kid in the 70’s. A stand out was the Snake funny car. After reigniting my interest watching these vids I bought a Snake / Mongoose kit last year! Stoked but it’s still sitting on the shelf - I’m a bit scared I won’t do it justice! I just need to let go of work and house duties and relax and get back to my childhood zone. Cheers

I'm going to have to buy this one and build it again. Back in the 80s when I built this one before it came with them hard plastic slicks that where 2 pieces and you had to glue them together. I'm glad to see that's not the case anymore and it's been keeping me away from this model. Only thing I wish was different now is that it's not molded in black , gonna have to use a white or light gray primer or activator. Always wanted to build this one in the middle of the 2 ( the pro and the stock option) i actually wanted to take a unique way to build this one again, wanted it to be bright white with a black vinyl top or a pearl white paint jod . And I wanted to keep it lowered with the slicks tucked up under there. Tupping this one will be easy and look pretty cool. Have it sitting sorta like the famous nova from street outlaws , Murder Nova.I really like the color you went with on this, it has a nardo grey look and it's been one of my favorite colors that alot of the automotive industry has been using on the newer cars today. Dont like that hood scoop either , cant figure out why.

For years this model is always represented a 1970 Chevrolet Nova with the Clear Parking Light Lenses in the bumper, That was the only year that had that, Also the backup lights are small in the center of the lens that's 1970 to 71 Nova's, 1972 lenses in the back of Lights are in the center but they're larger, This model car should have been called a 1970/71, 1971/72 Nova's had Amber Parking Lenses in the front.

Did you ever do the slick wrinkle on tires like this? When I used to do dragsters with slicks, I'd heat them a bit over a candle while holding the tires between my thumb and index finger. Then put the tire on something hard and try to spin the tire a bit as you press down. Makes a perfect (if you don't melt the tire) wrinkled drag slick. Of course it don't roll, but you don't make them to roll anyway.

@@hpiguy I have the original issue of this kit in my stash. I also have 2 copies of the Pontiac Ventura II sprint which is a sister kit to the Nova. This is why the fenders are a separate part. The Ventura has different fenders than the Nova. There are also other differences but most of the parts are all the same between the 2 kits. The Ventura was only issued once back in the early 70's. I would love to see Round2 issue a kit that provided the parts for both cars. This way the builder could choose to build a Nova or Ventura. I'm definitely not saying everyone but quite a few people say that future yellows over time . Have you ever experienced this with either the "old school" future product or the the new evolution of the product formerly known as future ? Would you believe it to possibly be a storage issue causing it to or not to yellow over time . This being said I am ruling out nicotine because it seems less and less people smoke these days . I never clear over decals clear is not pleasing scale wise to me . I would enjoy your or others as well input and insight into the issue . Lastly thank you for the time and effort involved in making these videos and sharing them with all of us .
@hpiguy4 жыл бұрын
I see a few online now and then making this claim. Most of them coincidentally are heavy smokers or have direct sun on their storage shelves or other issues with how they store their models. Plane and armor modelers have been using it for 30+ years and with the money they spend on their models, if it was regularly turning yellow under normal storage and display, we'd know.

Glad to see it no longer includes the split slicks made from plastic that normal model glue wouldn't melt or bond. Most frustrating part of that kit as a kid. Along with the lack of front suspension. I never used the metal axle through the oil pan.

After you painted it Sage Green...did you add decals and then put floor polish on it? Or did you do floor polish and then decals?
