In the 2017 movie “The Fate of The Furious”, Dominic Toretto is not the only hero in the movie, so is his Plymouth GTX. This is a familiar scenario for the Fast & Furious™ movie series. It has become not only Universal’s number 1 franchise, but also the 6th highest grossing series of all time at over 5 billion in sales. The Plymouth GTX first appeared in 1967 as a model of the Satellite and continued until 1971. In 1971 it had 3 engines choices available including the 440 “Six-Pack” pumping out 385 horsepower. It benefitted from a special camshaft, stronger valves and big-port cylinder heads. Sadly only 3,000 GTXs were made in 1971.
Features
Select between stock and custom wheel combinations.
Select between stock and custom tire combinations.
Optional Stock and lowered suspension.
Molded in white and clear with chrome plated parts and soft black tires.
87 Parts
The Plymouth GTX is an automobile introduced as the Belvedere GTX in 1967 by the Plymouth division. It was positioned as a mid-sized upscale-trimmed performance muscle car through the 1971 model year.
The GTX was based on the Belvedere, and was differentiated by a blacked out grille and special rear fascia, fiberglass simulated hood scoops with optional racing stripes, a chrome "pop-open" fuel filler cap, and a tachometer mounted on the center console.[1]
The GTX was positioned as a "gentleman's muscle car".[2] Standard was Plymouth's 440 cu in (7.2 L) V8 engine called the "Super Commando 440" rated at 375 hp (280 kW). Optional was Chrysler's 426 cu in (7.0 L) Hemi. A heavy duty suspension system was also standard.
Chrysler introduced major changes in the design of the 1968 model Plymouth B-bodies and the GTX was given a completely new look. A new hourglass body replaced the previous rectilinear design. The high performance 440 was standard in the GTX as was the TorqueFlite automatic transmission, while it was an extra cost option in the Road Runner. The GTX used the Sport Satellite trim and was offered in two body styles, a two-door convertible and a two-door hardtop (no B-pillar). All featured dual horizontal "racing stripes" on the lower sides ending with a GTX emblem ahead of the rear wheel openings.
The GTX was positioned to be an upscale model of the Plymouth Road Runner by adding luxury to performance.[3] The new budget performance version of the Belvedere featured the new 383 cu in (6.3 L) "Super Commando" V8 (renamed the "Road Runner 383"). It also had less insulation and comfort items, which reduced weight and kept it in the low price.
The 1970 GTX received a minor redesign with a new grille and rear taillights. Sales were low as the car did not look much different from the Road Runner. Stylists made the lines smoother, and a "power bulge" hood was introduced, as well as non-functional rear-brake air scoops. The convertible body style was no longer available. The Air Grabber hood returned, but instead of having two narrow openings running length-wise as in 1969, it had one opening scoop located on the power bulge. The GTX was available with the standard 440 four-barrel carburetor. Optional were the 440+6 barrel (three 2-barrel carburetors) and the 426 Hemi. In keeping with the GTX marketing strategy, the 1970 model included many standard features.
The only other performance luxury model in Plymouth's lineup was the full-size Sport Fury GT, built on the C-Body platform. The GT was added to the lineup in 1970.
The B-body was redesigned for 1971 and featured rounded "fuselage" styling with a raked windshield, hidden cowl, and a loop-type front bumper around a deeply inset grille and headlights. This was the final year for the GTX as a stand-alone model. The convertible body style was dropped.
Engine choices were 440 four-barrel, 440 with three two-barrels (Six Pack), and 426 Hemi. Emission restrictions such as lower compression ratios and faster-acting choke operation lowered the base 440 output by 5 hp (3.7 kW), to 370 hp (280 kW). The 440 Six Barrel was down to 385 hp (287 kW), but the Hemi was still rated at 425 hp (317 kW). Due partly to rising insurance rates on muscle cars, sales were low. There were less than 3,000 units produced in 1971.
For 1972 through 1974, any Road Runner ordered with the optional 440 was renamed Road Runner GTX and included the badging of both previous models.

I love this build I am currently building a fleet of factory stock Mopars! I have a tip for you Chris when you have to put a mirror on a painted car, before the car is painted I like to use a number 71 drillbit and a short piece of a sewing pin, drill corresponding holes in the mirror and the car where the mirror goes before you paint and then once it’s all painted it’s a snap to put the mirror exactly where you want it. Plus you can hold the mirrors at the end of a pin clamped between a clothes pin to paint it.

It is an awesome kit, the original pre-fast and furious version came with the airgrabber hood, but not the 440 hood, so this is an improvement. I built mine with some changes to reflect my actual 72 Sattelite, and it was easy enough thanks to the kits details to add heater hoses, fuel lines, sparkplug wires etc, the kit itself has all the space needed to easily do this. I want to get this reboxed version and build it again now! Great build, kutgw!

A married buddy of mine bought an orange with black laser stripe over c pillar 440 six barrel Road Runner back in the day when we were kids - with the hood with the little Air Grabber that was on the tree in your 440 model here. He used to drive it around with the two outer carbs disconnected to save money - like my 'Cuda we were getting about 7 mpg average if misbehaving. But then Wife happened and the 'Runner done had to run....away. I like your color choice - doesn't hurt my feelings anyway!! Good Job! d:D 🚗

Another lovely build. I never had any luck with Krylon paints. It's been many years since I last sprayed a model car with Krylon paint. I used to use their Fusion line with decent results. I bought a brand new. 1971 Plymouth Satellite Sebring in 1971. Not as hot as the GTX, but I liked it. Same body style, just a smaller engine and different badges. I traded it in, for a 1974 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus, pewter color, black interior. The only problem I had with the 71 was, when it rained, the taillights would get water in them. Then for about a week you had water sloshing around in them. I ordered new ones twice, had the same problem. The Plymouth dealer tried to fix the problem, but never had success. ,.

The hood in this issue is the one that was in the original '71 Satellite kit, which was issued in 1984. It's not likely Revell will ever issue the kit in that form again because the body tool was permanently modified to add the lower rocker panel trim, deck lid spoiler mounting points and GTX emblems.

Man, what a cool build! I was wondering about the contents of this kit, so I really appreciate your doing this one. BTW- I really think you chose your color well on this one; looks just like Mopar paint code L6 Aztec Gold. My dad had a '71 Polara in this color. A lot of GTXs got painted in these "sedate" colors because the older guys buying them had money and didn't necessarily want to show off. Us kids couldn't talk dad into a high-impact color! I would love it if they had included the optional elastomer front bumper to do a proper factory body-color front end along with the rear window louvers; both rare options. The only thing that baffles me is the hood stripes. In the box picture they look white (?). Guess I'll have to obtain different ones if I want to do a different color combo.

I read where those hash Mark stripes on the front fenders originated. Apparently, way back in like the 1950s and 60s a race team that had multiple cars would use these hash marks to know cars apart. One hash mark for one car , two for the second, and, possibly three for a third car. They are popular on new cars today.

I really wish this kit had parts to build a regular Satellite Sebring - flat hood, full-cover wheels, whitewall-able tires and so on

VERY NICE! My favorite Mopar color is a Hi-Impact color--Plum Crazy--but that bronze color with the gold hood stripes and the "Old Man Tan" interior looks just so darn classy!

Right on! Yeah, my idea is it's an office guy's car, he wants the six pack power but not the flashy impact color looks when he takes a client out for fondue and scotch. ;)

@@hpiguy I also love the little stories you come up with behind your cars, especially the beaters. They're very imaginitive. My cars don't have much lore past "this is what I'd want it to look like if I could have the real one."😁

When I heard they were rereleasing the 71 gtx kit it made me feel giddy, as I had built the 2007 kit during the summer. Kinda was hoping they would update the molds with the interior and give us something similar to the special edition kits instead of a tub. Great video and beautifully made kit tho.
