I can't believe the amount of garbage written here. I thought the decision was terrible and only further proved that umpires' decisions are inconsistent, but whether it cost Geelong a spot in a Grand Final is is a totally different thing...nothing in football is guaranteed. Regardless, be proud of what the team achieved in 2007 and 2009. Personally, after going to bed devastated after GF losses in the 90s, I went nuts. Best moment of my life was the final siren in the 2007 GF.

So Ling kicks it after a free kick is paid.. that's a 50m penalty.. and then Mooney complains to the umpire non-stop so another 50m penalty.... Poor umpiring cost St Kilda 2 50m penalties and a set shot.

True, generally the umpires do show more lenience over the finals campaign. Let's not forget the previous year's grand final where Tom Hawkins hit the woodwork and was awarded a goal. Maybe Ling's "goal denied" was some consolation for us Sainters in that respect. As they say, it's all history now. Anyway, you got your premiership a year later. Also a chance 2013?

If I was a betting man I'd say it would be a Pies/Saints Grand Final with the Pies Favourites. ("You've just cost us the game" what a spoilt brat and we all know that Dawson touched the ball 13 minutes from 3/4 Time but was counted a goal so what costed the GFC the game was their inability to control Milne/Riewoldt and co when the ground was dry).

Hard for saints fans to brag about this win now, They didn't go on to win the granny, Geelong won it back in 2011 and are still a premiership threat. Saints fan are back to being a bottom 4 side and on the verge of folding as a club. Winning Qualifying and Prelim finals isn't winning the GF...Sorry Saints.
