We have been lucky. The COVID-19 situation has been quite well under control in the Faroe Islands, with only some minor outbreaks. Thus we have gathered weekly to dance during the winter with only two cancellations. Big parties and public dancing events have not been allowed, though.

Underbar version och känsla! I know the background to this song, I also love Norway and my wife being a Sinclair likes this version too. However, it's always odd to hear passionate singing of someone killing your name =) The Swedish Sinclair song (for Malcolm) is a very different. Hope you all can gather in song soon again. /All the Best

It is sung from the perspective of the norwegian peasant farmers that levied a fighting force against Lord Sinclair, a mercenary captain hired by Sweden to attack Denmark-Norway during the Kalmar War. It is sung as a recounting of the events, including the future being revealed by a ‘mermaid’. In these events the norwegians warn Sinklar/Sinclair that if he comes to Norway he will never return, and that if they cartch him in an act violence they will mince him to shreds with their farm axes. Out of the fighting force of 1400 professional mercenaries, only 12 returned home, and the ones that werent slain in combat and surrendered were hacked to death by the angry mob.

They're singing about Scottish soldiers that were ordered to kill Norwegians by the Swedish king. When they traveled inwards Norway, the Scots were suddenly ambushed by a group of Norwegian farmers. The Norwegians killed almost everyone and captured the rest. The song is basically about why you shouldn't mess with the Norwegian people. My favorite verse(nr. 18): Barely one soul came home, who could tell his compatriots, how dangerous it is to visit them who lives among the Norwegian mountains. (This was my translation of verse nr. 18. There are probably some better examples of an English version out there.)
