Devínsky hrad v kontexte historických udalostí:
Oblasť medzi Devínom a Bratislavou je hranicou nielen v geografickom (posledné výbežky Álp a prvé Karpát), ale aj v politickom slova zmysle. Táto oblasť v historických dobách ležala vždy na rozhraní dvoch „svetov“: ležala na hranici Rímskeho impéria a germánskeho sveta, bola pomedzím germánskych Longobardov a prvých Slovanov, bola okrajovou zónou avarského kaganátu, ku ktorej rozšíril hranice svojej ríše Karol Veľký; v moderných dejinách sa stala západnou hranicou Uhorska a východnou Rakúska.
Strategická poloha devínskeho brala nad sútokom dvoch riek zohrávala významnú úlohu od praveku, cez rímsku dobu až po stredovek. Hradné múry boli neraz svedkami udalostí, ktoré utvárali dejiny tohto územia.

The area between Devín and Bratislava is a border not only in a geographical sense (the last foothills of the Alps and the first in the Carpathians), but also in a political sense. In historical times, this area always lay on the border of two "worlds": it lay on the border of the Roman Empire and the Germanic world, it was between the Germanic Lombards and the first Slavs, it was a marginal zone of the Avar Kaganate, to which Charlemagne extended the boundaries of his empire; in modern history it became the western border of Hungary and the eastern border of Austria.
The strategic location of the Devín hill above the confluence of two rivers played an important role from prehistoric times, through Roman times, to the Middle Ages. The castle walls have often witnessed events that shaped the history of this area.
