A mower bilks for giant money requires way to much time and money for repair. I have a 30 year old 5 hp rally I paid 99.00 for oil filter plug thats it. Briggs. Runs like the day I bought. 3 decades ago!

I bought a new air filter online that fits but when I put the lid back on it bogs down so I have to mow with the lid kind of loose - that can't be good. Sometimes it idles really fast then barely at all then for no reason fast again. I'm going to limp through the rest of the Summer with it and do some work on it over the winter. It's a great machine though. Transmission is strong.

@jcstevegigs I just got mine going great. I thought it was the carburetor, I cleaned it twice before looking at the spark plug. I replaced the plug and she runs like new again.

@jcstevegigs I never did check valve adjustment, I'm certain it has never been done, but it runs good and I have five kids and no time...maybe this winter.

I have an old hrc215 that was like new condition when we bought it at a state surplus equipment auction 20 years ago. It is SO HEAVY. Two speeds on the trans...too fast and WAY too fast. I prefer a snapper of the same era for the transmission, standard engine belt drive so any old engine will work on them, many speeds, can slow way down if needed, better vacuum on the cut, handlbars won't kick you in the thigh. Still, i think i may need to adjust my valves. I cleaned the carb, but it still isn't right. Runs and dies, can't take any throttle. Shutoff valve might not be letting enough through, haven't checked that yet. I guess yours was the model after mine..hydro transmission? That looks like a great idea!

Ended up being the spark plug. She runs better that she has in 15 years!

Hello, I replace the engine oil pan gasket on my hrc216 , but now when it starts it get super high rpm and I don’t know how to set it to the normal position, or it has any to do with the plastic gear sprocket inside the motor, does it needs to be timed before put it together ?

Some times you can get the plastic gear jammed up in there. But more than likely if you removed the governor rod or arm that will be your problem. If you put it to one extreme and than the other and it still revs up like crazy, it is the gear hanging up.

Anybody know the difference between a HR215 Masters mower and HRC215? The only difference I can tell is the HR215 says hydrostatic on the deck and HRC215 says commercial. I think the engine, transmission and deck are identical.

YOU CAN BUT THEY RUN BEST ON AN SAE 30 WEIGHT OIL. THE SYNTHETIC 10W30 OIL IS PRETTY LIGHT FOR THE HONDA ENGINES

Yours doesn't have the fuel shut off like mine...it works off the throttle lever--all way forward + one click is choke, all the way back + one click shuts off fuel from the tank.

Unfortunately I had to stop after a few minutes. This was sad because the video was looking absolutely fantastic, and I was sure I was going to learn heaps. But even with my system at full maximum I couldn't hear/understand anything. IF you were using a microphone, it appears not to have worked. Pity. There was so much promise there.

If you are watching on your phone, yes your volume is limited, but on a desk top you can turn the volume up plenty. My apologies, Bruce
