I love that he plays the opening cello part, versus be serenaded and invited to play along.

I guess his line might be something like, "It's called a Tutti, that means everyone, that means I can join in... so there!"
@rivermaxfield5742 жыл бұрын
@@guileshillInterestingly, the manuscript score only has one cello line with tutti and solo markings, rather than a cello section line and solo cello line. In fact, the tutti sections are included in most editions because of that - and many musicologists believe Joseph Weigl, to whom this concerto was dedicated, was the only cellist in the Esterhazy orchestra at the time, and would have played the tutti AND solo sections by himself!

Had me thinking…How fortunate we are to live in a world where such creativity exists. Then to have these precious few, with the intellect, talent, and willingness to commit their lives to creating music at this level for the rest of us to enjoy. Thank you and bless you all from the bottom of my heart.

This is absolutely amazing - and I have not experienced anything like Steven Isserlis ... playing with an ease as if he doesn't even play, but rather listens - with every sign of pleasure - to a concert with a cello player called Steven Isserlis telling all kinds of magic tales with his instrument. Thank you so much for this performance ...!!!!

Einfach wundervoll!

I love his reaction to that disturbing noise in 23:47 and how he joyfully integrates it as a stepping stone to lift the music to another level. This music is about joy. Also technique, but mostly joy.

Haydn: 1 Cello Konzert C-Dur . hr - Sinfonieorchester. Steven Isserlis . Richard Egarr I enjoyed cello concert 2. I actually am enjoying this much better. Steven certainly is the King 🤴 of the Cello and its a delight to listen to this piece. What a talented Cellist and the orchestra too is so complimenting him with their accompaniment. Anyone can see he lives to bring great music to his audiences. Enjoyably so, too. Thank You for giving me the opportunity of listening to this wonderful music. The experience was delightfully received. Perfection …. In my opinion.

Nice to see that Egarr has included the harpsichord in the basso continuo of this concerto, however, they should have also included at least one bassoon to add a woodwind-bass color to the other winds. Josef Haydn is on record in 1768 as having advocated for the tradition of including the bassoon in the basso continuo having said this: "The bassoon can be omitted if absolutely necessary, but I would rather have it, especially since the bass is obbligato throughout. And I prefer a band with three bass instruments - cello, bassoon and double bass - to one with six double basses and three cellos, because [in the latter scoring] certain passages cannot be heard clearly.“ Basically, if the orchestra includes wind instruments and basso continuo, one should include bassoon too. That was common practice, and the sound of oboes and horns without a wood-wind bass instrument is just odd and uncharacteristic of that period. (This is particularly odd since the same conductor and orchestra include the bassoon in their next video with the 2nd Haydn concerto, but have omitted it here.)
