I played the Clairnet, Oboe and the English Horn from 1954 when I was 5, in elementary school. When I was 8 I learned the Oboe then English Horn. I continued to play through High School. But when I turned 18, I was drafted into the Army and after "2 1/2" years in Vietnam I lost my love of Classical Music, which I inherited from my father. Never did pick up the instruments again, to my deepest regrets. Especially after listening all day to these Oboe pieces. This was a treat for me. It was LOVE made audible.

Un très grand soliste , qui interprète ce superbe concerto avec toute son âme et ...une technique époustouflante ! Que de talent et de travail derrière tout ça ! Bravo au chef d'orchestre et à l'ensemble de ces merveilleux musiciens également !
Music is supposed to please our ears and this does so delightfully. But there is something so completely dazzling about watching this man make music. His merriness and joy in every note couldn’t be more infectious and adorable. Even before he begins he conveys his joy with the orchestra by glancing around with an expression that seems to say nothing more than ‘isn’t it so much fun to make music!’ I find myself going to this video again and again. And his long sustained notes!!!!! A kaleidoscope of gorgeous colors passes by…as a pianist I can only covet and hope to suggest the illusion he achieves with one breath.

Maestro Leleux is simply amazing in this performance. I was so intrigued with the oboist behind him on the right, at times with his expressions as you could tell that he was so impressed with the soloist's talent as I'm sure he would definitely appreciate the mechanics and difficulty of what was being done at certain parts of the performance. Truly I found this such an amazing performance by all. The best of this piece I've ever heard. I was so caught up with it that I found myself standing in my living room at the end joining the audience applause shouting bravo, bravo. I will likely never get to travel to hear such talented people perform live, but I am truly thankful to God that I'm living in a time in history where I can still enjoy the marvelous talent that he has bestowed on so many precious people around the world. What a gift!

The thing is... the oboists in the orchestra are no worse than Leleux. All professional oboists will have studied the Mozart concerto at some point in their lives and performed it to the same standard. It is a requirement on many orchestral auditions. The oboists in the orchestra are just doing their job just as Leleux is.
