you should never reuse a cotter pin

why's that. Because I know plenty of people that do. never been any problems. please have some real life experience before opening your mouth online thanks :)

Primary reason: each time you bend the cotter pin, the metal will experience "cold work" and eventually break. Think of bending a paper clip back and forth until it breaks. If you lose a cotter pin, you could lose a prop, which would be un-fun and maybe even dangerous. Add to that the fact that cotter pins are cheap, and you should probably just get a little bag of them and keep them in your tackle box or in some kit in your boat. Just my two cents...
