I bet part of this is because people watched Top Gear and think they have to shout their opinions on cars at people because Jeremy Clarkson does it for comedic effect. People see the banter between Jeremy, Richard and James, and think that to be a 'real petrolhead' they have to needlessly argue and trashtalk other people's taste in cars. Obviously that's not all of it, lots of it is all the reasons you described. All of this is why I'm not really interested in going to the comments on car review websites/videos anymore because it's all needless tribalism. This is one of the few channels where everyone more or less respects all cars for what they are and how each car's engineering have shaped them, rather than just how the badge on the bonnet or the fuel it uses makes it better or worse than any others.

I know this comment might get buried in all the other comments but I just want to take a moment to appreciate your content and genuine passion for everything automotive.... Whether it's pixels or actually driving these cars, you still remain unbiased when giving an opinion which you are more than entitled to.....The thing I hated the most is when I would ask a valid question out of curiosity or just because I didn't understand something and then I'd get ridiculed for not being a real petrolhead, which is the most idiotic thing because where did they get their knowledge....... Your channel answers my questions that I know would seem stupid to most people if I ask them..... To conclude I just want to say that although I might not like every single car out there, I can say with confidence that I appreciate every single one (yes even the prius) because without them, the car community would seize to exist.... Thank you and all the best with your business and chanel ❤️

My refrain is "social media is cancer " and I truly believe that. If used correctly, as intended, then it's a great communication tool. Far too often though, and almost as a rule, it's used to intimidate and ostracize those whom others disagree with and in general spread disinformation. The current state of affairs here in America is a perfect point. I won't go into it, as I'm not trying to persuade or dissuade anyone of their opinion. That's not my gig. I agree to disagree and allow others to believe what they wish. Right or wrong. But with social issues, cars, engineering, IT (my professional field), everything, I always try to remind people to do your own research. And not just on KZbin or Wikipedia. There's always more to the story and those shouting the loudest are usually the ones with the least amount of factual information or, in the worst cases, intentionally ignoring facts and information that would lead to a more complete understanding of something. When everyone is on their soapbox shouting, no one is listening. These kinds of discussions are always difficult. Appreciate your candor and your insights on a very evenhanded video.

To be honest, When talking about a car I don’t like, I try to have the idea of- “I don’t like this, but someone might like it, and if a singular person enjoys driving this car, then that’s *something.* Somebody out there, enjoying this four wheeled machine, and who am I to dog on that and result to personal put downs?

I see it as people who show off their cars and make separate accounts for them, are SUPER insecure about themselves, you see this all over TikTok, dudes recording their cars writing mellow dramatic captions about how they are grinding etc. are so miserable with their lives it’s so obvious, like ya we get it a girl broke up with you, get over it. Or they have such a shitty miserable life with nothing else going on they focus their entire personality’s on their car and assume they are better than everyone, which they aren’t at all, in fact they are very pathetic.

You mention NFS, and this topic reminds me of a troll on the GT Sport FIA community (now renamed Gt Sport and GT7 community). He is very annoying and he has to express his dislike mainly towards NFS and Fast and Furious. Every single time those are mentioned, he's always commenting how he doesn't like them., sometimes in a not so nice manner. Whenever I see them, I think, oh this guy's gonna comment now, and low and behold he does. I think he is a bully and rude to people who like NFS and Fast and Furious, but he also acts like that towards anything that's not professional motorsports. Then he claims he's not a bully or troll.
@HSGAutomotive

@1granturismo
@1granturismo 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I reported him once, for calling an NFS player noob among other things, but nothing happened. Next time he gets out of line I'll message ak_kov directly because it's really getting old. I'm sure everyone in that community knows he prefers motorsports. He just wants the attention and needs his opinions to be at the forefront. I could care less about people's opinions at the end of the day. No movie or game will please everyone, but no need to comment on every related post or be rude about it. And quite frankly I think his reasonings are stupid. Basically it's because he feels street racing games promote illegal street racing and Fast and Furious is unrealistic. While the first may be somewhat believable, maybe people might be more likely to do that cause they think it's cool and they don't see an immediate consequence, but it makes me wonder, is he the same kind of person who believes violent games promote violence and mass shootings? Also it's ridiculous to say a movie is unrealistic because it's a movie, you generally don't watch movies for realism, although granted if there's no supernatural things or powers involved in the movie and the idea is the world in the movie is presumed to obey real life physics and biology, sometimes suspension of belief is stretched too far.

Good video detailing the sad truth of what really is around 95% of the internet car community. I usually avoid car enthusiasts on the internet because I know most of them are gonna be like you described: ignorant, narrow-minded, biased/fanboyish and rude. I've had my fair share of annoyances with these people, too. It's as if there is a certain amount of rules in the internet car community as to what you are allowed to like in terms of cars, they tend to be something like: Automatics suck! Manual FTW, RWD is always the superior type of drivetrain, N/A is always better than forced induction, and other stupid nonsense like that. And if you don't abide by those rules and actually have your own view in terms of cars, all these morons will shit on you. For this reason, I say that the colour gray (not that it can't look good on a car, but I'm sure you get the point) on a car is the colour that symbolizes the internet car commuinty: bland, boring and unoriginal. There really is very little variety when you really think about it. Due to all this, I slowly began losing faith in the car community, until I found out that most car guys (I don't use the term petrol head, as a diesel lover it reminds me of all the narrow-minded petrol-only elitists) I've met in real life are much nicer - either because they're grown-ups or because they don't hide behind a screen. Because let's be real, lots of these people mentioned are a probably bunch of children (some are even in their 20s or beyond and as such, man-children) who really don't know that much about cars, yet treat their opinions as facts. And for that reason, it becomes illegal (in their mind) to have a different opinion. I can't stand it.

I think honestly all KZbin comments have gone to hell over the past couple years and it's all kids. There's a fuckton of munchkins on social platforms nowadays and they're actually somewhat intelligent: they can hear some creator arguing why one car is better than it's rival and they can appreciate the logic behind the arguments and parrot that anywhere they can because they think "I'm right and you're wrong and this is why". But kids suck at nuance, and don't understand why some solutions work better for some people than others or the life experiences that drive reasonable, logical people to disagree. I also think for the same reason a lot of kids are getting radicalized towards both ends of the American political spectrum, and then the KZbin algorithm just rabbit holes kids at both ends until neither side can sympathize with the other. And because nobody knows all these commenters are kids a lot of adults start to assume the majority society opinion is one of these two extremes when really it's just all these 9 year olds with hours of free time. If you're reading this and your passport gets renewed every 10 years, please try to consider this conspiracy theory the next time you see some wild bullshit in the comments.

it doesn't really help that the only arcade racers even left are NFS, Forza, and The Crew all with their own share of problems, with all of them B titles likes of Midnight Club and Tokyo Xtreme Racer (Shutoku/Kaido Battle) and something unique like Blur, Split/Second and Auto Modellista we're all never seen another day of the light ever again but at least Test Drive Unlimited will made a comeback this year with TDU3 so that's one silver lining to us racing gamers

To be clear, I'm not defending toxicity. I am, however, on the side of truthful reviews. Let me use an example of a MK7 Golf-R. Had the car for a day. I subscribe to a number of automotive publications, as well as reading reviews on the 'net, and all I heard were positives. I was excited about driving the car. Imagine my surprise when the steering was numb to the point where feel was a non-factor. No idea as what the front wheels were doing or what surface we were on. The clutch was like stepping on air. Its pedal was seemingly just hanging in space. Beyond weird and difficult to gauge. The adjustable suspension went from hard to harder with no gain in performance. Dynamically, it was like driving a stick of butter. Never, not once, have I seen any of this mentioned in the press. I can go on about the R, but I think you see my point. Enjoyed the video.

A few months ago a picture of a heavily modified Toyota GT86 was on Facebook and there was a lot of negative comments. I personally didn’t like the mods on the car but I posted in the comments saying I like the GT86 and plan to buy one but I wouldn’t be doing any mods. The amount of negative replies I got, people saying I have no taste and that it’s a slow car and crap etc...got annoyed and deleted my comment. Just because I like it and a bunch of muppets disagree with my own opinion and unleash a bunch of abuse.

I drive a modified Mazda Miata NC. The guy before me, who I do not know, modified the exhaust, but they did not complete the tune, so my engine light turns on, and there is no O2 sensor in my exhaust. So, me being afraid that the car might start having "engine knocking", I am planning to take the car to a professional tuning shop near by to get it recalibrated or a new performance exhaust that can be tuned with the car to be more reliable, and that I do not have to have a possible heart attack. My car starts up at an idle RPM of 2K, which is not normal, and then gradually goes back down to under 1K. (I think the computer is trying to re-adjust by "guessing" where the normal spot of idling is.) I do not want to revert the care completely back to a stock exhaust from the manifold to the muffler, but I want to fix the issue while still enjoying a modified car. In the future, I would like to convert it to E85-E100 if it is possible to do it without harming the engine. Other than that, to relate with this episode, I like to tease people about Toyota's quality is superior to others. However, I do not own a Toyota, I own a Mazda, hahaha. Because Toyota does not seem to make their own sports cars anymore that are reliable like the Miata, I bought a Miata that I can have a affordable payoff plan. The early 2000's Toyota MR2 was something else I was looking at, but I would have to fork down a lot of money first for a car that is over 15 years old. (In regards of talking about Toyota powertrain sports cars. Not the Toyota Supra A90, or the GT86.) I like a lot of cars, but when it comes to real life, I really love reliable, affordable sports cars. I dislike SUV's, because they are rather boring to me. To me, they are the stereotypical "Soccer Mom" mobile. Not to look down upon those who like SUV's, I just find SUV's to be like that "Normal" Spongebob episode. People can like whatever car they like as long as it does not harm other people.
@archygrey9093

I often interrogate those commenters on why exactly they dislike a certain thing and what there experience is with it. And holy moly it makes you realise just how stupid people are, the vast majority have no actual experience with the thing they hate OR with the alternative that they say is so much better, and half of them are just kids who've never even driven a car and are just parroting what was said in forums. One guy was insistent that turbos are dumb because "past a certain rpm they restrict airflow and choke the engine" and tried to prove this by showing me engine stats from two completely different engines (a 6 and a 4cyl) showing that the turbo one had peak hp at lower rpm so it must be "because the turbo" and not the dozens of other possible reasons, said he had real world experience with turbocharged cars to back this up too, turns out the only one he's ever driven was some 1L econobox he rented for a day in Europe lmao. Didn't like it when i showed my own two cars (a SAAB turbo and N/A Falcon of similar age) that showed the opposite, SAAB had both higher rpm and higher peak hp despite being half the size. Finding someone to have a good old fashioned car debate with is great, I love having views challenged but finding people who actually know what they're talking about and can make a good argument for themselves is so rare now

The cars I like are Japanese import tuners and American muscle cars but my favourite car manufacturer is Audi. I am not a fan of hybrid or electric cars apart from a few like Rimac, Tesla Model S is my favourite car made by tesla because it has a good look to it and that's it. I don't like the Toyota Prius but I do love the GT300 Prius racecars. I know there are people that hate diesels but I really appreciate them. I prefer older cars to newer cars but there are modern cars that I really admire like the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, Audi TT, C8 RS6, RS7, FK8 Civic even the A90 Supra with a B58 motor from BMW instead of making a newer gen JZ series engine. I loved modifying cars since I was young whether it is track day, drifting, drag racing or off-roading or just a street build. I have heard of lemons rally where they buy old beaten up cars and take them on a rally. I'm not keen on that sort of rally but I appreciate with what they do and I am not hating on them for that. Whether it is luxury or sport I love sport but I hate luxury like Rolls Royce, Bentley (apart from the race cars because they look sick), Maybach and I hate modern SUV's because they usually focus on making off road vehicles that where meant to go off road and they make track focused SUV's with large rims and a thin tyre profile (apart from the Jeep Trackhawk and Dodge Durango) which yet again is not my thing. The SUV's I prefer are the likes of the Jeep Wrangler, Chevy K5 Blazer, older Land Rover and Mitsubishi SUV's. At the end of the day it comes down to opinions and this is my preference in cars.

Logic vs Feelings has never produced a unified conclusion because it simply can't. If their opinions isn't logical which it hardly ever is then just ask them "Well how does that make you FEEL?" There's a REASON why you dont see Aston Martin, Ford, BMW, Nissan, etc, share their FEELINGS about negative comments about a particular car they made and that's because there's no logical point to respond to meaning no argument.

Experienced something very similar with a life long friend of mine. Known each other long and still to the very same school together, only that im studying machine engineering and he is going for Architecture. We always loved both cars and bikes, drove together and what not, but hes always seemed very ignorant towards new technology and drivetrains. He is an especially big enemy of electric vehicles. Theyre „gay“ theyre „useless“, „boring“... you name it. Until one day we talked and he actually saidd the following thing: „These stupid ass E-cars they should just give up, would be better to invest in hydrogen fuel cells..“ And then it hit me... something made me think that HE thinks hydrogen cars are „normal“ cars. I asken „what makes you think that?“ He goes: „hydrogen cars have sound right? theyre atleast fun.“ It uuum.... took me a good while to teach him that a Hydrogen fuelcell vehicle is an electric vehicle like every other, the only difference being where or how the cars takes electricity from to run its motor. Needless to say i broke his heart with that. Now he just says „f*ck electric in general“ 😂

haha, yeah I think a lot of people who hate on electric vehicles have never experienced one. The electric motorcycles which I'm riding in this video are incredible. 0-60 in under 3 seconds with no gear changes and no loss of torque. It's like nothing else.

HSG Automotive Exactly. I personally have nothing against them. I only think that they are more of a niche product but judging by the current state of their evolution so far, they wont really measure up as a mainstream alternative. I‘d love to experience a vehicle or even a bike as such, theyre damn expensive tho.... and im also very excited about that new electric Damon motorcycle which should arrive quite soon.

Best way to deal with them. Facts. I myself dont like specific cars/manufacturers but if I do disagree with someone about a preferred taste I tell them why and i dont bash them for liking it. At most I'll made a crude comment among friends but that's the worst that will come out of me. For example. I live in the US and I cant stand Ford/Chevy/Dodge vehicles. As a mechanic they're a notorious pain in the ass to work on. Engineering is wonky. Buy for those that drive them and like the cars/trucks have at it. As the point of the video it's okay not to like something. Just dont trash those who do.

Yep. Many times Skyline fanboys tryed to convince me, that GT-R (R35) is not true Skyline, because it's V6, not inline 6. But the same people told me that G35 or (V35) are true Skylines, because it's written on the back

The R35 GT-R could be a different kind of Skyline underneath the body. Its Premium Midship platform is an evolution of the Front Midship platform from the V35 Skyline/Infiniti G35.

I disagree with that I see it as very telling and can tell it's an integra DC2. Having those Japanese headlights make it look like every other car on the road. And yes I saw both of them I still like the American headlights because you can tell. But the American bumpers on European cars it ruined it the look but I understand why in a way.

and they also can't move on to new things. yeeehh car sound is cool and stuff, i like them, HOWEVER you need to accept the fact that electric is the future. Sometimes they try to point out the flaws of EVs ONLY. Sometimes companies put a fake car sound in their EVs but some elitists say “BuT iS nOt a ReAl pUrE EnGine SoUNd” like tf? be grateful that you even have a car sound, fake, but still a sound, on some electric cars at least.

@@HSGAutomotive And did i mention the unnecessary hate on the prius? I know its a boring car BUT it's the car made to be exciting? No. it's made to be a normal car for normal people and with a great fuel economy. The prius is very good at what it is supposed to do but car guys can't acknowledge that. In other words, the Prius is not a racecar.
