This is one of the best, if not the best, centering explanation I've seen. I am fairly experienced and I learned a few things by watching it. Thank you again for posting these videos. Such open sharing of knowledge can only help propel the craft.

Threw for years, then skipped about 15 years. Used this for a refresher on the basics. Tried this method and I centered it without much effort. One of his suggestions was a key technique that was missed in my training, keeping one hand as a wall. That dynamic was never explained! It made all the difference. I used to put extra clay on the wheel just to make up for what was wasted trying to center.

thank you for this! Can you also do a video of how to bring up the walls without wasting clay. When I bring up my walls, I still have soo much on the bottom and when I try to be creative to bring it all up it gets off center.

Thank you very much for this! The three S's (Speed Control, Slippery & Strong Support). I find sometimes my clay is centered on the outside, but when I try to open it up with my finger I find the bottom interior of my clay was not centered (if that makes sense :)

@skindawg16 Good point! The one on the left is still in my collection and it turn dark green and black. To preserve the color longer, some people spray wood sealer to cover the surface.

The three pots at the beginning are magnificent, but the left and the center are white inside and on the shoulder, even though they seem to have been raku fired. How did that happen? And would you mind revealing what kind of glazes you used?

I am learning to centre and throw. I often find that however much water i use that my clay gets dry when centering and throwing. Could it be possbly i apply too much pressure - and so rub away the wet slippery surface to quickly? or perhaps my clay is too hard or dry? I there a way of telling if clay is too dry or hard for throwing? thank you!
