Interesting, well made videos as always. A little off topic, but would you consider making a video(s) about your digital clock and/or calendar that appeared in this video? They look great!

The Transistor Clock and the Perpetual Calendar were both kits I built long before I started doing anything on KZbin. All I have are photos as seen in this video and I have no intention of taking them apart to make any videos. Kits are available from www.kabtronics.com/ Thanks for watching. Ron

I have not figured out how to automatically record both a thermal image and normal photo with a single pull of the trigger. I also have not found how to update the firmware to enable such features that may not have been originally available.

Hi Ron, I just purchased this camera for my medical office to view the circulation of my patient's feet or hands. Do you know which settings I would use to be able to use it for this purpose? One person I reached out to for help asked what the range was between black and white. Also, how did you switch between the two images at the beginning of your video? Thak you
@RonaldWalters2010

Hello Sally, I am going to guess you did not purchase the camera using one of the links in my video(s). Therefore I received no credit for the purchase. I say this because I have not seen one sold via my links since November 2020. Assuming your camera is the same model as mine... You need to sit in front of the video with your camera. Pause the video (rewind, etc) and play with it to learn the modes of operation. 3:40 is the beginning of instructions 4:20 shows the Color Palattes. There are two cameras… visible daylight and infrared. There is only one infrared camera but it can be displayed in different ways. My video is using the full range of color or you could choose black and white (black, shades of gray). There is no adjustable range for the camera (range between black and white)… it just is what it is. Which one will work for your purpose (if any) is for you to experiment with and determine. The camera is a great tool for the intended purpose but the displayed (or recorder) image is small and there is no zoom or focus… you just need to place it closer or further away. It will show a temperature range of your hand or foot. Hold a cold beer can for a few seconds and then you can tell the hand is colder than before. To pick up on a particular (specific) vein/artery or circulation path… I doubt that will work for you. If the person is alive there will be a range of colors or temperature differences. If they are dead, the image would probably be blue (cold). 6:48 shows how I switch back and forth between the visible light camera and the infrared camera using the left and right arrows. Emissivity is a way to try to compensate for dull flat surfaces or very reflective surfaces (or different types of material). This would have been covered in any thermodynamics related class you may have had or possibly physics. Probably best to leave it a 0.95 And there is a way to overlay the infrared image on top of the visible light image… and to shift the overlay one way or the other so you can see both at the same time (explained in the video). This may just be more confusing for your purpose. The camera only takes photos (no video) and then you would need to download the images to your computer. There is a process to save the image after you click on the trigger… or to erase that particular image. It does take a bit of practice and getting used to how it works. Good luck! Ron

Ronald. Thanks for the video. if i were scanning a typical electrical panel looking for hot spots, should i use the selection where the camera shows multiple temperature readings? that way i would see a breaker that was unusually hot and possibly a problem?
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 3 жыл бұрын
You can do that. The temperature readings can jump around a bit and are only an indication of temperature differences. Being a handheld device, the sensor is always moving a bit. This is great for seeing the big picture as a visual display and will show that hot breaker, hot wires or a hot component on a circuit board as compared to the cooler stuff surrounding it. An infrared temperature gun with a laser pointer would more accurately zero in an a smaller specific temperature. Thanks for watching.

@@RonaldWalters2010 thanks Ronald! i forgot to ask... what about a large disconnect switch enclosed in a metal cabinet... could the HT-18 see the heat through the metal cabinet?
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 3 жыл бұрын
It can only see what it can see... nothing behind walls or inside a box... unless it heats or cools the wall or box, in which case you will see a hot or cool spot and not what actually caused it.

Have not had a reason to take one apart. I expect there is a single 18650 lithium-ion battery which could be replaced. Unless really mistreated, the battery should last a long time.

@@RonaldWalters2010 it is an 18650 but it has some kind of plug on it.
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 2 жыл бұрын
You would need to look at the socket and see if you can unsolder or bypass it at the circuit board... then put in a new battery. You would also need to decide if the replacement 18 650 is protected or unprotected. Or contact whoever you bought it from to see if they will sell you a replacement 18650 battery.

Can you use this to detect pipes or electrical wires or studs behind the house walls? Please let me know.
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 2 жыл бұрын
No. Only if they were hot enough that they would be heating up the wall. Apparently some of the newer stud finders can locate metal or plastic pipe and electric wires, but I do not have one and have never used one. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe! That is what keeps this channel going. Ron

Cool, can it find water pipe leaks hidden in walls?
@RonaldWalters2010

Only if the water leaked long enough to change the temperature of the wall and by then you would probably already see the water leaking out from under the wall. This is a Thermal Imaging Camera... not X-ray Vision. :-)

I doubt it. These only show temperature or temperature difference... mainly on the surface... not something buried (which would most likely be the same temperature as the surrounding area).

I show you in the video how it detects the hot pipes inside the concrete floor. If the pipes are cold it will not detect them at all. If you go outside and are looking for an arrowhead, clay pot or a skeleton buried in the ground it will not detect them. Zero. Nothing, guaranteed... it will not work for that.

Thermal cameras are actually really handy in troubleshooting electronics. Finding faulty components and ICs. For this amount I would rather buy a FLIR one, which can be used on a smartphone.

What's the refresh rate
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 3 жыл бұрын
Refresh rate is not stated. It’s pretty much real time as you can see in the video when I am scanning across the hot bed area of the 3D printer. And then the temperature is frozen when you squeeze the trigger to take the picture.

I have one of these and the image quality is nowhere near the claimed 220x160. My FLIR TG-165 gives better images than this does and that is only 80x60. I've tried various settings but never get anything other than a blurred thermal image. I suspect the lens is the issue but it is not adjustable.
@vespine
@vespine 4 жыл бұрын
i'm considering buying one of these, do you have the same model ht-18? all the video reviews of this unit seem very good, but some negative reviews like yours leave me with some doubts. the video "Unboxing The Hti HT-18 Infrared Thermal Imaging Camera" literally shows it side by side with an older FLUKE ir camera and the ht looks better. Does what you see here in this video look very different to how the screen looks like on your unit? is it possible there are "clones" and genuine units? I have come across this with electronics from china before, soldering irons, headphones, some come and are great, others come and are identical in looks but garbage....
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 4 жыл бұрын
I thought the HT-18 produced a pretty good image. I ignored the above comment about a "blurred thermal image". To my way of thinking, a thermal image is always going to be blurred as the heat (or cold) radiates out and away from the hottest (or coldest) point of source. This Hti camera is made by Dongguan Xintai Instrument Co., Ltd. I got it from Banggood.com and you should expect to receive the exact same camera if you order it from Banggood.com.

@@RonaldWalters2010 thank you kindly for your reply, yes how the image appears in your video looks perfectly fine to me, so much so that it makes me question that dave mclaughlin had the same camera as you, even if his might have had a ht-18 model on it, i have heard of inferior knock offs even of these "cheap" chinese brands and wonder if he had a clone. Thank you for letting me know you got it from banggood, I have used BG before and haven't had a bad experience yet so your comment is definitely helpful in making a decision, thank you and all the best.

Keep in mind that the distance from the camera to the item being measured also affects the amount of blur. About 3 feet seems to be best to get the sharpest resolution. The image still is very nice at closer distances for a camera at this cost levell but will never equal a 256x256 high end camera.
