I just found all this today. The book, the movie and this interview. I read the comments below and it's very concerning how many Christians are so angry at this man's book. I am a child of God. How can you not hear what this man is saying? He's honestly asking all the questions people ask everyday. Why does bad things happen to innocent people? He's telling you his heart and his life. There is so many lessons from his life. This man has lived through actions, events in his life as a child that I am amazed at his strength. Only God can give him that strength. How can you not comprehend that? He was drowning in shame. He speaks wise words of those that have suffered through their life by making wrong decisions, taking the bad path in life. Of course God loves him just as deeply as he loves you and me. Jesus would walk up to him and hug him. That's how my God loves. And I am grateful for that.

Wow, the negative comments that talk of blasphemy, etc, are so worrying. They show the worst types of things spouted in religions generally. People who are not compassionate at all and full of judgement. What do you people do for work or leisure that you feel the need to look down on others with only your view as a valid one. I know non-religious people who are far nicer people to know, who will help anyone whatever their faith or non-faith. You need to look at yourselves firstly. You clearly work within a bubble of fellow thinkers. What an absolute joke. Shame on you.

Are you not doing the same thing you accuse Tina Marie of J Howe ~ taking it upon yourself to say you know the truth and she doesn't? Why not leave that between the individual and God as we aren't going to stand before God regarding our beliefs about doctrine and theology but about expressing His Love to others and pointing out doctrine and theology is about what we believe. For certainly God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them and having placed in us the word of reconciliation. We think we have the right or the authority to judge what others believe as right or wrong when God says He is not holding sins against us but wants to reconcile and that can only happen with LOVE not with shoving doctrine and theology down one another's throat.

@@lilnip67 The story about the man who owed the king and was forgiven of his great debt, and started chasing those who owed him. It's a hard teaching. Forgiveness and loving others must be the hardest thing to do, since we all live in a present reality filled with terror and misery, and the good things we have are so little, losing them becomes everything. Seeing the end changes everything. Just as the book of revelation writes it, "blessed is the one who reads this book". Forgiveness is the key that's missing. And it's really hard to do.

This movie is not a biblical documentary, nor does it claim to be. It is a symbolic portrayal of the nature of God. This film can bring healing to those who have had tragedy strike and to those who are mad at God for whatever reason. Gen 1:27-So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male AND female created he them. So I as a woman am created in the image of God. Agree? The fact that God's character is a woman is showing His gentle side, His nurturing side...I would keep going but I don't want to spoil the movie to those who haven't watched it...as for me watching it, I was blessed.

Besides if you work hard enough Ryan you can come up with a better testimony. And Dan be careful who you claim is following demons because for one thing if you think Rhonda is following a demon then why would you use hatefulness to harshly condemn her. Think about it!

When we are constantly told and treated by other people that we are not worthy from birth, how do we believe otherwise?
@petratical4 жыл бұрын
Mary, great question! The best way to "believe otherwise" is to read how others dealt with such. Starting with Jesus himself! See, he was rejected and felt worthless on the cross as Psalm 22 verse 6 and 7 tells us in this prophesy, hundreds of years before it happened; "But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip (spit),". Now thats feeling worthless! But the clincher is Isaiah 53:3 speaking of Jesus; "He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not." But why? Speaking of Jesus as a stone; "The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone." Mark 12:10. But Romans 9:33 say's; "as it is written: "See, I lay in Zion a stone (this Jesus) of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and the one who believes in Him will never be put to shame." For as, "To you who believe, then, this stone is precious." 1 Peter 2:7. Mary, all this is confirming that Jesus went through what you seem to think of yourself, or that others have convinced you of, for the very purpose of identifying with our plight. Jesus took on flesh and blood like as we, so that he could identify with our plight, our plight of suffering, Hebrews 2:16-18. But, we can over come through faith believing, as again; "the one who believes in Him will never be put to shame." Thats the promise of God, so "believe otherwise" that God so loved you, that he became this "not worthy from birth", so we can be worthy in Him! John 3:16. Thanks

I have to admit to reading many of the comments in a video topic like this one, even more so than the actual video. A part of why I do is to hear the view points of others and challenge my own thinking. God has been very clear with me to always be willing to relearn what I think has been a rock solid theology. He spoke a year ago to me and said that there was to be some reteaching in my life. That's been my current journey and a very valuable one. Of course, I believe in sound doctrine and testing everything with the one measuring tool we've been given, His Word. That's a gimme. Here's my saddness though. One thing seems very common among believers... We are some of the biggest critical culprits that are out there. The idea that I'm going to tear down a different thought or idea to best support my own... how dishonoring. Of course, we claim that our own interpretation is from God's Word... without fail. Let's just stop to ask, am I really that sure? Or, is there something else that God intended? For those striking a good, healthy debate in this thread, please don't receive any condemnation. Perhaps my words have caused that and I would be wrong if that's the case. I simply encourage all of us to seek Him deeper and deeper still. For those primarily speaking hate and judgement, hmmm... the field you sow for yourself is saddening.

As emotionally moving and even interesting as this talk is as well as the book he has written, people seem for the most part to overlook one of the most important questions. That question is whether this book was truly inspired by the Spirit of God or if it came from the author's own heart and experience. The book is extremely interesting and conveys deep ideas and communicates deeply to the mind and emotions, there is no doubting that. The problem is that a great number of the Christian community read this as 'inspired material' seeking bedrock comfort and eternal truths therein. That is where the problem lies and NOT with the book itself. This book is a product of the author's life journey, experiences and is deeply effected by his 'father issues', childhood issues, abuse issues, etc. There is no doubt that it can be a comfort, speak to people's hearts and give at least superficial healing. But so can the charms and methods of many other religious and psychological methodologies. There is also no doubt that God can use this book to reach people and speak to people's hearts. He most certainly can. But that is still different from it actually being inspired by God and birthed in the heart of God as many people seem to view it. For example, many people were deeply touched by God, saw spiritual truths and parallels in movies such as Titanic and The Matrix. The Matrix, in fact, deliberately written and formed to convey the principle's of 'Messiah' and other spiritual Christian truths, much like The Shack. But that's just the point. We don't look at these movies or other books as being 'inspired' as in 'God breathed' as the scriptures were. People need to remember that this book is not 'the word of God' and is not inspired as such. There is plenty of the author's own mind and emotions mixed in as well as some deception and darkness. This is why the way many Christians see this book is dangerous. Not for the book itself but for the fact that they view it as just 'so wonderful' and take it as 'entirely from God', which of course it is not.

My comment was based on words of caution in how one perceives the writings or works of another and was not aimed at any given person, unlike your comment which was directly aimed at me and what kind of person I am based on your 'analogy' with the eagle and turkey. You could have just as well as said, "Mike David, you are wrong. You are in satans spiritual bondage on the ground. The words of The Shack are words of God and to disbelieve them means you are in satans bondage." Of course, that doesn't have quite the 'Christian ring' to it so I can see why the bird story was used. Then again, I do have to thank you for not being rude or using profanities or overt aggressive judgementalism.

How is it not any good? It has helped many people find faith in God, or renewed their faith as well as learn to forgive. It also teaches God's unconditional love for us. If you don't get that message than you do not know God at all.

@@tristatracy9535 Sis, just an honest question to you, do you feel God calls His people to repent of sins, or do you feel we can do anything we want? (When I say sins, I refer to the things listed in 1 Cor 6:9-10 and Gal 5:19-21)

I know nothing can change your mind, but I encourage you to read David Bentley Hart's book "That all shall be saved" and attempt to refute that logic. Not saying it's right or wrong, but to read it and attempt to refute it with what you consider to be correct theology.

God has no religion. God is unconditional love. That means if you put God in a human box, God won't fit. Listen to the message, if it speaks to you it speaks to you. Who wrote the bible? It was written by human beings through spirit. Stop using religion to spread Fear. There's enough fear in the world. This world needs love not fear. People get too caught up in religious beliefs instead of being the difference this world needs. "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field, I'll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about. Ideas, language, even the phrase each other doesn't make any sense." -Rumi If someone is trying to sell you salvation then it's like someone stealing your own wrist watch and then trying to sell it back to you. God knows everyone's story. People who talk about Jesus don't walk the line. They just talk instead of being the example He came here to set. Religion has perverted His message. "What I can do, you can do." Have I not said ye are Gods?" Jesus was a rebel and outcasted by Religious communities because He threatened their power. Remember that. Our souls are always perfect, it's our minds that need help.

the comments are for the most part belaboring the obvious when they state that this is not the God breathed Word. but that particular origin I believe is specific to the Bible, the Christian Bible. But to say that it this work is not inspired by God is foolish and a bit pompous. To say that this work is not inspired by God is foolish and a bit pompous. Are you considering that songs, paintings, poems, and books cannot be inspired by God because they are not the Bible? Really? God inspires people everyday to do great works. if you have any question about that look around you. The hungry are being fed , and the sick are being visited and prayed for and healed, God's work is being done all over the planet by Common People inspired by God and guided by the Holy Spirit. Of course our most important job as Believers in Christ is to spread the gospe,l the good news of Salvation and love that Jesus gave us and gives us. I think what he says about religion should be taken seriously especially by people who consider themselves religious. It was the religious people that Christ found fault with period they could not open their doors because they could not open their minds to those that we're not what they thought proper. Yes wisdom should always be used in anything we read, sing, see or consume for that matter. but don't block out what you don't understand thinking that others do not either. Just sayin...

The Shack is vale Pantheism in a Christian book. The book says we are all one with God and that God does not have a wrathful side which guts the gospel of Gods mercy to provide a way to be forgiven in Jesus Christ. The occult new age believe we are all one and that separation from the world is antichrist. Which is upside down from what Jesus teaches about being in the world but not of it. Pantheism teaches that because God is in everything then we are gods. It teaches that the birds are God and the trees are God. And the most important thing of all that is wrong with Pantheism is that if everything of creation is God then it means that God is not separated from sin which makes him a liar in the biblical sense. Run from these people that deconstruct Christianity and teach things contrary to the BIble under the guise that the Bible in not infallible.

The thing that bothers most Christians about this movie is just how true it is. They say there's universalism and "everyone goes to heaven". Er, wrong. Not once does it speak like this or even make this connection. His father beat him and should burn in hell, so, a man, tormented, who gave his life to God and loved God, but still, TORMENTED, HUMAN, was able to go to heaven because he was saved. You mention how God is a man, not a woman. BWAHAHAHAHA!!! So many ignorant people complain about this. So, Mac, who was beat by his father, was loved and taken care of by the neighbor lady. To Mac, this was his mental image of safety. So, when Mac gets to the shack "in his mind due to being in a coma" automatically put in his mind what was considered safe, because God represents love, compassion, safety. To Mac, his neighbor lady was just that. Then, OH NOOOOOOO, GOD BECOMES A MAN FOR A SHORT TIME!!!! OH NOOOOO!!!! Still ignorant people complain about this. Why did this happen? Hmmm. Could it be that DIRECTLY after, directly after forgiving his father and releasing the past anguish and hatred he had for his father, he was able to see God as his father, which was a time for him when he directly needed a Father. You people need to learn about context, subtext, metaphors, and and so much more. You have to realize that this is a man of God and his book is directly from God. You can do better Christians.

The people who are extremely upset are ones who would lose the money over someone counting of the true love of God. They don't want to believe that something that could bring love into one's heart God is love to bring God into your heart is bad if you don't believe what they do. They don't want you to freely open your heart to God unless it lines their pocket. Or conforms with what they teach or believe. They would rather see people scared worried to death about God because they can't believe the horrendous things that are believed about HIM by the others. They want you to fear God they want you to be a scared into believing a jealous Angry God. When it's obviously clear that anger is an imperfection in man what he does when he loses control of his normal senses and fights.

this book is intended to mislead Christians who are not strong in faith and are not grounded in the word of God and tend more to rely on emotions rather on spiritual knowledge which comes from studying the scriptures and love for Jesus and His truth.

@johnh94385 жыл бұрын
Every one of the questions being asked or sought to be answered by this book; the tragedies of life, our position or relationship with God etc. can be fully explained using PROPER exegesis of the Bible and God's true nature. One does not have to skew God's word in the name of literary freedom in order to make God's truths palatable. I'll give you one example, in the book and in the movie Young has his character of God stating that God does not punish sin... that is exactly a lie.. That is heresy to be blunt. From Adam and Eve being cast from the garden in Genesis to Satan, the Beast and the Anti-Christ being cast in the lake of fire in Revelation- God punishes sin. He is not a "fair" God... he is a just God... Our God being a loving God demonstrates his wrath as a response to sin through out the entire Bible. Taking upon Himself the sins of the world, Christ also took upon Himself the wrath of His Father... Love does not mean wrong doing goes unpunished. Love means that the God disciplines those he loves (Hebrews 12:6). You are conflating love as an emotion vs. love as action... Love is a verb... To add... he had the female character "Papa" portraying God- showing Jesus' crucifixion wounds in her hands... God was not crucified- Jesus was. There is a theological danger here in the implication that God Himself was crucified when it was His Son whom He sent... The issue with this begins with the story of Abraham and Isaac- which was a foretelling of what God was going to do with His own Son to save all those who believe. Recall if you will- God told Abraham's to take His only son to the mountain to be sacrificed ... Abraham obeyed and as such was credited for his faith that God would provide- God did provide in that moment and in a future time to come.... This book is heretical!!!.... It is no different than a new age book that teaches self healing in my opinion. If one is going to write a fictional story line that is meant to bring clarity and healing through the lens of scripture.. then its content should hold fast to the truths of scripture.... case in point- John Bunyan did it when he wrote Pilgrim's Progress.. Listen.... the Gospel (Good News) is NOT the Good News... With out the bad news...

But nowhere in the Bible does God instruct us to love ourselves.
@charlierdunn7 жыл бұрын
How much do you think God wants us to love our neighbor? How much did he love his neighbors? "Love thy neighbor as thyself". You can only love your neighbor (God's way) as much as you love yourself.
@amazinggrace49247 жыл бұрын
Yes but he was speaking to the over abundance of love we already have for ourselves. We do not need to be commanded to do that but love more than we already love ourselves.
@truthtellermom4627 жыл бұрын
You are right we are commanded to die to self and crucify the flesh this movie is nothing more than New age crude that people without discernment are falling for left and right . Paul warned us that if anyone comes preaching a different Gospel with a different Jesus we are to turn away from them. I'm glad to see that you have discernment my sister in Christ most people don't have it any more. God Bless
@starzgaming67 жыл бұрын
NO!!! I am saddened by your comment and the replies! God does command us to love ourselves. It has been and is still ongoing process for me, but God does command us to love ourselves! I could direct you to the Ten Commandments, but instead, will direct you to Jesus's very own words in Matt. 22:39, "And the second is like it, 'Love your neighbor as yourself''." I cannot overemphasize the importance of these words because I have never been able to love myself. We assume that people who do love themselves are arrogant. But we all know that those who boast of themselves are really just insecure of themselves. Those of us who are humble, suffer in silence, or constantly put ourselves down unknowingly seeking approval of others. But, brothers and sisters, whom I pray will be reading this, and especially for you Anne, please know that God does command us to love ourselves. I learned this from a very young person, who was much wiser than I in years, that if I criticized myself, then I was actually criticizing God Himself... I was criticizing His creation. If I didn't love myself or the person I was created to be, then I was questioning God's design, His plans. Please notice, I said, the person I was created to be...not the person I am. There is a vast difference. As I stated at the beginning of this comment, this has been an ongoing and continues to be an ongoing process for me. No matter what your circumstances, God DOES have a unique plan and purpose for your life. No matter what, just putting your faith in Him, trusting Him, and your faith leading to obedience to Him is all He really desires. Guess what? It really is all about you...you and Him! I know in the circumstances of my life that just getting to know Him, REALLY know Him, is the most important thing to Him. I may not be able to be the "hands and feet of Jesus", but I can love Him and have a real relationship with Him. As the saying goes, Jesus would have still suffered and died if I had been the only person in the world...thus He truly desires a relationship with us as if we WERE the only person in the world. So, yes, Jesus desires us to love Him as He created us and died for us. His death was not in vain. He died and suffered for all humanity and considers us worthy enough to redeem us. Let us NOT mock the love of God because we cannot love ourselves or consider ourselves NOT worthy of our redemption. I have know idea if these words will even be read, but I pray that they will touch the heart(s) of someone somewhere. You are worthy and you are loved, and you ARE created in God's image! To not love yourself is the same as saying you do NOT love the God that created you in HIS image. I hope and pray this means something to someone, who has struggled as I have. May you love yourself as God loves you!
@amazinggrace49247 жыл бұрын
No he doesn't. You are buying into the lie. We already love ourselves...too much as a matter of fact. Every decision we make every day is based on what we want for ourselves unless we consciously choose others over ourselves.

Except no one is interested in the Bible anymore. You can rattle all you want, but people have moved away from god and the church. If the Shack invites them to form a relationship with God, then God knew what he was doing by making the Shack a massive success, bigger than any other spiritual book.
