Jaishankar Iyer people don't care about that anymore that's why people buy Samsung and iPhone and if HTC made a clone of Samsung people would call it a clone so to innovate and make it unique they had to something big unfortunately what makes them unique and cool also makes the phone less stable I love HTC and they will always be my go too but they need to create a supremely stable phone before they add features like squeezable sides

Gerald you do relise we could have both if HTC and most manufacturers didn't follow the stupid trend Active noise canceling is old tech by now and some phones even manage to put quad DACs that give them better sound quality than USB C can offer anytime soon and has much more choice with the headphone jack Don't be a fanboy. Most Companies are giving us less for more and I expected more from HTC, sad where they're going.

Die hard HTC fans (those left) need to look at it from the context of 2018. HTC doesn't exist in a bubble in this crowded and highly competitive market. There are many factors that led to HTC's really awful position. I say these things as a long time HTC fan mind you. 1. I believe that HTC's R&D hasn't been directed toward's any worthwhile features the past couple of years. The squeeze feature is a flop for the most part. Their audio solution is proprietary and speaker quality is less than original boomsound. ANY R&D money spent on features that won't sell more devices is wasted money for a company in HTC's position. 2. HTC's manufacturing quality control has gone down measurably. Look at @ZacksJerryRig's last few teardowns of the U Ultra, U11, and U12 Plus with their many issues with manufacturing quality in the hardware. Some of this could be due to Google taking 2,000 employees, who knows 3. Removing features like the headphone jack, wireless charging, & physical buttons and replacing them with either proprietary solutions that force you to buy accessories that work ONLY with their devices or just not work well at all (the new buttons) just stinks of desperation for any money coming in. 4. HTC's refusal to reexamine their pricing strategy has been one of the biggest factors to hurt HTC since the M9 forward. When you can an experience that is arguably close to an HTC phone from something like OnePlus then why buy an HTC phone other than brand loyalty? 5. HTC's loss of carrier positioning essentially killed HTC in the USA. They are in the same place as Huawei but with FAR less resources. If you aren't going to court the carriers here in the USA then you might as well not even sell here if you are going to have high prices. 6. From an aesthetic side since HTC shifted to glass on glass I am willing to argue that they gave up what made their phones stand out from a design and aesthetic point of view. The U12 looks like a V30. You can't stand out if you look like everything else that sells more. I say these things as who has owned many HTC devices (HTC Rezound, Droid DNA, M8) and it disappoints me seeing HTC's slow motion trainwreck. I will say that their new phones are most likely very good phones, especially in a vaccum. But the reality is that they aren't in a vacuum. I just want to see more competition in the smartphone space. But with the decisions HTC execs are making I don't see them ever being real and serious competition in the smartphone space ever again. Don't get me wrong. I want HTC to exist. But in the open market, does a company that refuses to see the tides of change coming and refuses to course correct deserve to survive?

After a few months with the HTC U12+, I have to say it's not as bad as it seems. Awesome microphones and camera, (my friends can easily hear me with clarity even in the noisiest environments). The camera and looks are good enough to have people ask me which phone I am using. In fact, the camera is actually BETTER than what dxomark gives it credit for (thanks to a software update), and can comfortably beat the triple lens P20 Pro that my friend owns. Battery life has not been a problem, I end my days with at least 50% charge. And the buttons actually feel quite, once you get used to it, and you install the updates.
@Kepe6 жыл бұрын
HTC makes interesting phones that look good, but they always have some weird or stupid design decisions on their phones that are deal-breakers. U11 was super weak. U12+ looks good and has all the specs you want except for wireless charging, but it is still too weak and has weird buttonless buttons that also seem to be quite weak. Another baffling thing is pricing. If Oneplus can make a profit selling more durable flagship phones with identical hardware at ~$500, why does this thing cost ~$800? I can not see anything on this phone that makes it worth 300 USD more than the OP6.
@ryusan7176 жыл бұрын
Then buy a OP6
@Kepe6 жыл бұрын
K Ryusan That's exactly what people do. And HTC is going bankrupt because of their own stupidity.
@ryusan7176 жыл бұрын
Kepe got to remember though the one plus isn't that great at all. It's hard is and software are to bland. Speakers suck and the camera does to. And they are using one of Samsung cheapest panels. which will get burn in really fast. The HTC and LCD in general never get that and look amazing for the life of the device.. iPhone** I have a LCD Galaxy phone from 8 year ago the panel is still crazy good. The HTC speakers are amazing the camera is as good as the pixel 2 and the screen is better then most out there. HTC may be stupid for the buttons I give you that but they work for me just fine. And it moves super fast. HTC has beem there for us in the past to give us a freedom option over the iPhone cult. And they never put us on a prison and forced us all to use the same old bland crap. I believe let's give the grandpa of phone Maker's a shot.

The U11 is the best HTC phone I've owned. Will not be buying another phone until 5G becomes mainstream. I've repaired the screen twice and the back once The price I pay for not putting an ugly cover on my phone plus it got run over by an SUV and survived with just a cracked back cover. Family and friends always look at my phone and ask if I got a new phone because it looks so good even after 3 years. Wife has a U12+ which she upgraded from HTC 10. We've both owned 9 total HTC devices between us starting from the M7 which we switched from Motorola and Samsung. I always use the squeeze function to launch camera and other things without having to turn on the phone, unlock the screen and pressing buttons. Not sure why people bash it's usefulness. It's a time saver. Phone is still as snappy as new, camera is amazing, battery's still good and charges super fast, works with my wireless android auto unit. Can't ask for more. Wish Verizon would start carrying HTC devices again. We need a comeback story for HTC!

Zach, does servicing really matter on a component that was designed to never need service? I don't know about you, but I use my phones hard, and I've had several phones retired because of button failures. I think it would be nice to have a common failure point replaced by something that I don't have to worry about anymore. The first attempt at solving this problem may need some tuning, but props to HTC for doing what no one else has. In regards to the rest of the phone, there is OIS on both rear cameras, and the telephoto camera works without the overprocessing of the P20 Pro which makes photos look like paintings instead of photos. No OIS on the selfie cameras, just EIS, but the selfie cameras are vastly better than the P20. The HTC 10 was a durability champ, but was SO industrial that even I was turned off. The U11 has been tougher than expected in real world use, and mine is fine after fourteen drops and daily life in my pocket. Audio-wise, the U12 is still the best choice out there.

Can you do an LGG7 tear down and durability test? I really love your videos and I think it keeps tech companies honest.

Hi Jerry, I'm Abhinav Janak from Hyderabad, India...I'm a huge HTC fan. Nice video done here for HTC U12+. I have been using HTC U11+ phone since last 3 years. It will be very nice if you can also do a full tear down video for U11+ phone as well disassembling and showing all the parts including the pressure sensors ( pressure sensitive strips on left and right hand sides for squeeze function ). Thanks.

Great video like always. I was thinking buy the HTC u12+ since my m8 still lives and with so little no notch offer HTC was my favorite but not anymore cause of those strange buttons. All the best.
