Why do we ask the saints to pray for us?

Saints are intercessors. I guess the ultimate intercessor is Christ. And after him, Mary. Then the saints. In the Old Testament, the two big intercessors who come to mind for me would be Moses and Abraham. Moses when he offered to sacrifice himself at Mt Sinai and Abraham when he kept questioning God on the morality of destroying Sodom and Gomorrah, risking invoking God's ire, in order to save his nephew Lot. Are you beginning to see a pattern with intercessors? These are those who have sacrificed themselves, sometimes their own blood, for others. I often hear incidents about martyred saints. So in order to be an intercessor, it's probably necessary to sacrifice one's self greatly in some way. Either a great personal sacrifice such as that made by Mary in giving up her son, or the sacrifice could be one's own life, one's own blood. I'm thinking of the saints described in Revelation as having been martyred, those who were beheaded. Asking when they will see justice. This personal sacrifice seems to be what God demands for one to be an intercessor. That's the price. So that's the reason we pray to saints, to Mary, to Jesus? They've already made the sacrifice so we mere mortals don't have to? Or perhaps because we're unable to, as in the case of Christ because our own blood simply would not be able to get the job done. I'm thinking of Protestants who describe themselves as intercessors. Probably they would not be so eager to claim this title if they realized what is required! Saints are also needed by us in situations of spiritual warfare, or in political situations because sometimes demonic entities have authority over specific areas, and we are no match for these entities. I"m thinking of Daniiel chapter 10 where Daniel's prayers were not answered because a demonic being which had authority over the area was blocking it.

Prayer has been proven over and over not to have any benefit through multiple studies outside of a form of meditation. If the prayer request comes though it is god, if not it is gods will. There is an out for every prayer. I also never understand why people pray for themself or others not to die. If you believe in a heaven, why would you not want to die as soon as possible?

Saint means sanctified ,holy.a saint is one who is saved by the blood of JESUS CHRIST. IT IS NOT an appointed office. Human beings cannot name people to a heavenly office. In PAUL’s epistles he used it for a greeting,a salutation I.e. to the saints at Ephesus,to the saints at colossi among others. Praying to the dead is called spiritualism,and not in a good way.

Hmmm, I don't think the bible shows the saints offering up the prayers on behalf of the people on earth, I think if we were to pray to saints/dead sinners there would be unmistakable examples littered all over the Bible don't you? In addition to that, can you point me to evidence in the bible that shows some prayers from some people being either less effective, less heard, less important than others, which would validate your claim for additional prayers to be offered on our behalf by the saints?

Revelation 5:8 shows the saints and angels before the Throne of God presenting to God the prayers of the saints living on Earth. James 5:16 says "the effective fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

Nice explanation about praying to the Saints. To me, Saints are role models for us. We should reflect in our life at the moment. If there is a Saint that we know that they are similar to our situation, we should ask our Lord for the intercession of that Saint so they can help us go through the situation just like that Holy Saint went through.

I don’t believe in praying to any Saints at one time they were human. Jesus says no one comes to the father except through me, so pray to Jesus and his prayers will reach the father since you went through him. You pray to Saints I don’t believe is going to reach the father.

They are in heaven rejoicing with the father , the father of those who have and are living for Christ and Christ alone. Since the apostles we were all told that Christians should follow the written word AND the holy oral traditions-2 Thessalonians 2:15. Problem with the new churches (protestant) is that the bibe as sole rule of faith was never what the apostles or Yeshua taught because I'm sure they knew that everyman interpreting a book as he believes the Spirit is telling him would lead to the 40,000 churches that splintered away from historic Christianity. Why not do both? Why not go to God and go to fellow Christians who live in Heaven to pray to God for me? I mean, I pray to fellow humans on the Earth all the time. After all, if I'm eating dinner with friends or family and I need the salt, I don't even bother God with that request, I just pray my friends or family to pass me the salt. And if I'm getting on an elevator but the door is going to close before I get there, I don't pray God to hold the door for me, I pray the passengers inside the elevator to hold the door for me.

@@bettyjmj The Bible says you should not bow to or worship statues. You may come up with your own twisted explanation but you can't edit the Bible to make it go along with It. We've been literally brainwashed by the catholic church to Worshipping idols and too blind to see it.

@@bettyjmj If I may ask who gets to decide which statues are correct, like can I make my own virgin Mary statue keep it in my house and be bowing to it while praying, after all it's just a symbol depicting the mother of Jesus, right? I just wish you can see the hypocrisy in all this

The people catholics call saints are dead human beings.they are praying to demons. Saints are the saved by THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST. Saint is not a heavenly title voted on by human beings. Paul used the term “saint”as a salutation in his epistles. “TO THE SAINTS AT EPHESUS,or,TO THE SAINTS AT COLOSSI”etc.
