It was likely an accident.. Somewhere i read ,There was other hellicopters too in the team , from IRAN , and all other also faced problems with weather and bad visibility. As you can see in the video , even during day visibility is poor.. The other hellicopters returned to the base , but that one failed. If it was a terror attack , IRAN will have known because radio communications would have tipped all other choppers of problems and call IRANIAN government waiting for its president . Unless of course it was a bomb inside or a sabotage on their chopper while it was on the ground by a mechanic. Either way apparently there was other choppers escorting the President. Had any attack happened ,they would have known.

I might be missing something, but if 2 other choppers were part of the convoy, and they reached their destination safely, how on earth did they not notice the other chopper's disappearance, despite the bad weather and despite the bad weather, or did they all switch of everything for safety concerns?. A transponder is not required for safe flight. It also known as secondary radar. Google it!. A more likely scenario could be that the altimeter was set incorrectly or malfunctioned. That tells the pilot his altitude. If he knows the highest terrain on his way back then he could avoid crashing into a mountain. Barometric pressure most likely not available at the point of departure. Airports have it. But the most important rule of operating helicopters is always to do a VFR flight, especially in rugged terrain. Never in FOG! Unbelievable carelessness or incompetence. This is normal. In all countries Presidential aircrafts always have their transponders off. They are transporting the country's leaders and the leaders never wants people to be able to easily track their locations in flight. So far, nothing strange or unusual that the transponders was off. It would be strange if it were a regular passenger aircraft.

@@ioannisimansola7115 Leaders of countries often have surprise trips to other countries without the public or even the media knowing about it up until they arrive in that other country. This is very often the case with US presidential plane air force one which frequently do surprise travels to other countries with their transponders off for surprise visits. However most countries leaders do that including Russia, France and most countries. For security reasons leaders don't want anyone to track their positions. In most cases they even go further by traveling together with several other aircrafts at the same time so that if spotted, people can't know exactly in which aircraft the country's leader is in.

Transponder worked onwards journey (while flying to Azerbaijan). But on return, it not worked. So it is conspiracy but not because of age old or no maintenance.
