I would imagine there are no other folks listening to piano solo anymore, particularly this one. That being said, I always get a goose bump whenever I listen to Heifetz, Horowitz, Rayburn, and let's not forget, Domingo and Jody Jiang's rendition of .Flower in the Rain. Now this one. Fabulously interpreted and performed. After wiping off my tears, I checked out this young musician's profile. I sincerely wish him the best towards his artistic pursuit, considering the broader environment that he is in. God bless.
This music brings me to tears again and again, no matter how many times I listen to it. It is music with a Chinese soul, an expression of determined patriotism in the face of national adversity. Inspiring!
A brilliant pianist Yundi li and he plays The yellow river piano concerto to perfection. I find The yellow river piano concerto has a hint of the wild west in it. Well that's just me. Anyway congrats it's a excellent recording as well I just love it. Thank you Paul

All of my grand parents (both sides) emigrated from the southeastern China through Shantou in Quangdon near Fujian province about a century ago. While listening to this beautiful piece, I imagine myself to be one of them living in the south of China and thinking of their compatriots in the Huang He Basin. It's very inspiring indeed.

An interesting composition. Has elements of American West type sounds, mixed with classical patterns from European composers as well as Chinese melodies. Quite a medley of styles. Nice performance.

NO!!! How dare you mention Chopin or Rachmaninoff? This immature and novice concerto is mediocre at best, maybe even less interesting than Kalkbrenner. Listen to Rachmaninoff's very first concerto which he composed when he was 18. It has more virtuosity, romanticism, complexity, philosophy, and artistic craft. As a musician, I can't believe this Yellow River concerto was composed in the 70s by a composer who studied many classical works. It's a retrogression.

Yundi Li's interpretation far surpasses that of the composer. I'll lose social credit over that statement, I'm sure, lol.
Brialliant performance by Yundi, the 2nd movement is so full of tenderness it made me cry, cry of joy. What a wonderful sound this concerto is made of! Other moments its so powerful & full of wrath! Like the Yellow River itself that cannot be contain. All in all, in music, everything is in harmony!

I have tried so many times to find something to really like about this concerto, apart from that it’s always good to hear music from different countries, but I find it really just boring. But of course I don’t have connections to context or any sort of reminisce that people in China probably have to it. However it’s a good showpiece for the pianist.

You certainly don't know that this is an adaptation of a much larger composition known as the Yellow River Cantata, right? The piano concerto contains 4 themes from it, and if you're not familiar with those themes, then obviously you wouldn't comprehend it the right way.
