"We just assumed that it happened. But no one else was in the room where it happened." That can go for both ways. In history we learn about those men's stories. About their decisions and the outcome. The way Hamilton referenced Burr's main philosophy, to wait, and dissed how ineffective it was made my heart explode. Not only that but when Burr said, "you got more than you gave," and Hamilton responded, "and I wanted what I got." When Hamilton does things like this, it sends a chill down my spine.
@rarewubbox64132 жыл бұрын
but it's true. you can't get politically popular if you stand by and watch it happen, without spreading your beliefs. as hamilton said, you can't win unless you are playing the game. and, after hamilton pushed burr to stop waiting for it, further after this burr took hamilton's father in law's senator spot and nearly became president, becoming vice president instead
@niky_peixoto Жыл бұрын
I agree. I saw people saying that, for them, it was at that song that Burr started to look more like a villain, but I disagree completely. Hamilton looks way more like the villain and Burr looks more like the good guy that wants to do something but doesn't know how. The song is basically about how Burr thinks that Hamilton used of inmoral means to get what he wanted, but nobody saw it, so he can't prove it, so he gets desperated to be inside the "room where it happens" so he can maybe stop things from going south.
@Chirpysemperboy Жыл бұрын

@@Chirpysemperboy But I think "what he wanted" was by itself a problem. I personally think that the part where Hamilton takes on a more vindictive tone, mocking Burr and taking on this evil villain role never actually happened. It’s all just in Burrs head, he sees Alexander’s trap card move and it twists his mind.
@Honor_mp32 жыл бұрын
it's a pretty cool guess
@niky_peixoto Жыл бұрын
I think it's the opposite. If you analise Burr and Hamilton's true story, it looks more and more like Hamilton wasn't exacly a great guy while Burr was very good. Hamilton got into thousands of duels and he manipulated his gun so he could shoot faster (obviouly won all of them, since he was alive), and he used the same manipulated gun while dueling against Burr (I doubt he missed on purpose). Burr, on the other way, was described as having "the rigor of a devil and the imparciality of an angel", because in his job he was alwayns imparcial and fair even against people which were his opponents. He sent letters to Hamilton to ask him to back down on the rumors about him, because they were extremely serious, including a rumor about him fucking his own daughter (and we know how much Burr loved her and his family in general). Burr was also a feminist while Hamilton was much more conservative about it. There are also other storys, like how Burr lied to Hamilton so he could open a bank that destroyed Hamilton's party monopoly, and how Burr sold his watch to help poor kids because he didn't have anything else. I actually believe that Hamilton did acts of corruption and Burr noticed and tried to do something about it by becoming a politician of the opposition. Besides, Hamilton was trying to create a strong government and went as far as to want the president and senators to have LIFETIME positions, while Burr didn't like the idea at all.

@@drangelice Right, but I do think the inspiration cannot be ignored. @@niky_peixotoI always assume is somewhere in between the rumors, I don't think we can ascertain for sure what happened but I think they were in the end just humans doing human stuff. I like how in the start both hamilton and burr are in the purple (dark), then hamilton appears in the yellow (light), and all through out the video burr is in the purple, - kept in the dark, - when the light shines barely on him when he has that talk with hamilton face to face, and asks him what happened. Then finally, he forces him self in to the light, because he wants to know what happens, he doesn't want to be kept in the dark no more. The yellow/purple really fit the mood well - well done! Also, we see the light shine, and burr watching out the window, meaning that he isin't connected to the truth, but he knows the news, so he is watching throught the window, not knowing the full context. I find that Hamilton is the villain of his own story. He constantly foils himself and he shouldn’t have died. Love Hamilton (in the musical at least) but he had three months to call off the duel. Not to say Burr was right, but if Hamilton had said sorry or just called it off, he wouldn’t have left his family behind. His pride was a major downfall for him. things you notice watching the hamilton musical -Room Where It Happens occurs right as hamilton walks out of reynold's house -washington and king george are part of the crowd during The Reynolds Pamphlet -burr was smiling during hamilton's bit in The Election Of 1800. he legit thought hamilton was going to pick him, and he spent the rest of the song in utter shock -when it's hamilton's turn in Your Obedient Servant, his dancers are sending waves of papers to burr, with the last one doing this incredibly sarcastic ballerina's walk as they flutter the paper to burr -the running gag where madison keeps fucking coughing (the real madison was pretty sickly, but it's funny to see this giant burly dude keep politely coughing into a hankerchief)
@cauyoon69964 жыл бұрын
The transitions, the expressions- they're all so great! A couple of moments I especially loved: - 1:58 Heheh Jefferson using the swivel chair (which he invented) - 2:11 I love how TJeff, Madison and Hamilton are trying to be displays/paintings to fake their appearance to the public, the whole "talk less smile more" mentality and trying to save face. - My absolute favourite scene in this animatic is the emphasis placed at 3:55 when Hamilton raises his hand, while saying that "I wanna build something that's gonna outlive me"- foreshadowing the moment when Hamilton aims his pistol at the sky. (To get even more meta, the pose also mirror's the musical's logo, and the musical was not only a result of Alexander's legacy, but it has also become a part of his legacy :) ) Overall, amazing work! You should be proud of what you've created! You've earned a new subscriber :)

Fun Fact: Because Hamilton's affair takes place right before this song, he speaks in short quips for this song. All other songs he speaks with much more confidence, but we see Hamilton gain more confidence throughout the song, and start speaking longer and more witty phrases.

Its because, Hamilton has been taking NYC by a storm, he made a huge impact in their campaign while Burr just stands in a side line and "wait" for things to work out but he failed to realize if he wants things to change he needs to make decision and actually step up. Both Hamilton and Burr has dreams and goals only difference is Hamilton has ambition
@loganwilliams91042 жыл бұрын
Bruh, that's literally the entire point of the song. Bur doesn't really get it untill Hamilton goes "You get nothing if you wait for it." Which is why you literally hear him announce that he wants to be in the "Room where it happens."

This is a masterpiece! The colors, the transitions, the imagery. If I list every single thing I like about this we'll be here forever, but here's a few: 1) the doors multiplying and turning into cards 2) madison's expression after everyone yells where they want the capital 3) burr peeping through the windows 4) the shadows with demon eyes 5) the yellow outline on a completely purple hamilton near the end 6) the screen goes blank once in the beginning and twice nearer the end, i especially liked "close your eyes" *clear background* 7) doors into stairs!! Besides, of course, Burr literally chasing after the room and how beautifully you presented his struggle. It's also synced perfectly with the music!

So, with the outline on Hamilton, I think it's to represent Burr's knowledge of him. The people in yellow are the people who are "in the room where it happens"- they know all the deep secrets that go on. The people in purple are the people in the dark. And, during the stated conversation between Burr and Hamilton, I think the yellow outline means that Burr only knows the surface level of Hamilton. He hasn't seen the entire person.

The use of lighting in this is absolutely amazing! You have the streetlights acting as spotlights, shining on those ‘in the room’ but not on Burr, who remains in the dark. Then you have the backlight on Hamilton when he asks what burr is waiting for... it not only makes him seem that much more powerful than Burr but also, not to get too deep into the metaphor, could show how history shines on Hamilton but not Burr? Anyway, at the end, when Burr becomes senator, he is now in the light. He’s made it into the room. Sorry for the rant this is just so great!

I don't know how many times I've watched this already... the perspective, the details, the symbolism... it's mesmerizing. I love the energy and motion in all those lines and the switches between the setting between Aaron Burr and the story that he's telling. I especially like the confrontation scene with Hamilton where the candlelight illuminates them. The little step back that Burr has when he realises what Hamilton did, the motion of Hamilton's coat at 3:41, and when they switch from half-illuminated to being back-lit when the piano chords start up again. And idk why, but that little detail where Burr's mouth widens at 4:09 when singing that note...I can't get over it it's so good. And that face at 4:15... it's so chilling I love it. Edit: Apparently I can't get enough of the symbolism. At 3:43 Burr is half-lit before Hamilton's shadow blocks out the light, shows how Burr realizes that Hamilton is outdoing him, even when using Burr's own tactics of "talk less, smile more", while Burr is just lagging behind.

I love this song so much because even though the events it’s literally about have nothing to do with Burr, it’s Burr’s song. It’s the event that makes him finally realize waiting for it won’t get him anything and he’s just been wasting his time. And it takes Hamilton telling that to his face for him to realize it. The song just describes Burr’s character changes and his realization so well. Also it’s *such a banger*

In some ways I can sympathize with Burr. I myself tend to be a bit overly cautious, preferring to wait for an advantage before taking risks (or if possible not taking any risks). I also tend to be the kind of person that doesn't like rocking the boat, I try to avoid stepping on people's toes. Unfortunately for Burr, his caution and tendency to try to appease others deprived him of several opportunities that bolder men like Hamilton, who didn't mind saying things that might offend others and taking risks, took advantage of and benefited from. Caution and tact are not by themselves bad traits, they can in fact be quite positive depending on the situation. It's just that Burr took those two traits too far and in this situation it didn't benefit him. I can kind of relate lol, I have missed out on opportunities myself because I hesitated, didn't want to take risks or step on others. Hamilton is more mercenary in that way. A very minor example lol, but for example I have missed out on things that were limited (food, items, etc.) because I didn't want to push past others or be rude. Also I'm sorry but at 3:57 I just imagine Hamilton shouting "OBJECTION!" lol
