HUAWEI Mate 8 is simply the best android device out there. Before I got this phone, I always thought Samsung is the best android phone manufacturer, but Mate 8 is incredibly well designed and built. And HUAWEI spends tons of money on developing and engineering its devices. HUAWEI has not officially landed on the U.S market yet, but once HUAWEI does, you will see how HUAWEI outshines Samsung. Keep an eye on HUAWEI, folks.

I actually got a secondhand one from a friend last July 2019 for around $100 and it still works so well. It's battery lasts me almost the entire day and is fast enough to support my games, netflix and browsing through social media. Still a good phone for 2020 if you're not the type to feel the need to have the latest specs on your mobile device.

Kirin 950 + Mali-T880 MP4 + 4gb + 6 inch screen + fast charge 4000mah battery + fingerprint reader These are the best of the features, would have been cool to have a wacom stylus included also I've noticed the fast charge on this device is considerably slower then some competitors. But at the end of the day this still makes an awesome flagship phone, definitely impressed with the Kirin 950 and Mali-T880 they really pack a punch.

I honestly don't care if they copied iOS, if the design is taken from HTC or whatever else.. as long as it's a fluid, high performance phone, it's good enough for me. And in my opinion it is also not overpriced. I don't get it. Where I live, the iPhone 6s+ 32Gb is at more than €900, while the Note 5 is around €800. This if €600, for god sake, it outperforms them both and has a larger display in the same dimensions. Why exactly would this be overpriced? I actually believe the opposite to be true. €600 is a very good price for a phone like this!

Huawei has one of the best interface next to Samsung. I've used huawei Mate 7. Yes, there is no application drawer but it's still very easy to use and the menu interface is very logical and easy in a very similar way that samsung android phones do. The only disadvantage is that huawei still didn't push this phone to a global market. But being number 3 in the world with key markets in Asia maybe there is no big need to. Great phone Huawei!

When you say to a regular user how good the battery in this phone is they wont give a shit about 4k resolution. Huawei made what other fabricants have forgot, think in the regular user who needs a good battery life, a great perfomance and a really good looking phone. Huawei mate 8 is great.

I just got one of these from Hong Kong. It arrived setup in Chinese and didn't have Google play installed. I managed to get around that. I don't really like the UI and the icons don't look that great. It picks up both the networks that I'm using in Australia which is great. The speed of opening applications is very fast. I love the large slim bezel display. Battery life is very good and average so far I usually have 60 - 70% battery at the end of the day. Hopefully there's more support for rooting and if cyanogenmod was available I think it would be a killer phone. Overall it's great just the UI is about the worst feature.

joshua why huawei made such a great display in nexus and dont use it on their own products? Feels like something is not right becouse the market demanings will force them to move to QHD. Will P9 be the pioneer? Keep up the good work becouse its always a pleasure to watch your reviews.
@andyH_England9 жыл бұрын
It's because the battery life on the 6p is very disappointing and the Asian markets are less concerned about QHD as they understand that on a 6 inch screen there is little to gain but you lose power. The Mate 8 nearly has twice as much battery life as the 6p so easy win as battery life to most people is the most important thing. If Apple takes 98% of the profits in the smart phone market and they are 1080p or less then you realise that QHD is just a marketing gimmick that some people believe is important, where it is clear it reduces performance and battery life. It is great the Chinese OEMs keep to the Apple philosophy, I have an Oppo R7 Plus and its 1080p screen is great and I have to charge every 3-4th day, brilliant.
@JanBadertscher8 жыл бұрын
Don't generalize western users. I always preferred devices targeted to asian demographic: 5.7" or bigger, no app-drawer, themes, etc. exactly my thing, that's why my device history is: Samsung Galaxy Note 1, 2, 4. Xiaomi Mi4, Xiaomi Mi Note Pro and now thinking about getting either the LeEco LeMax 6.33" or the Mate 8 6.0". Any advice on those two?
@mikldude93768 жыл бұрын
+Jan Badertscher G`day Jan , i like the big screen devices too , i still have my beloved note 4 , also have the 6p , one thing i have noticed with the huge screen (6 inch and over size ) devices , they seem to not have as many bells and whistles or as high spec as the more popular size phablets .....around the 5.7 inch size . i looked up the Leco LeMax you mentioned, it appears fairly decent on paper , that being said , one little thing , being such a big device i would have thought it would have a larger battery 3400 Mah seems a tad average to me. i have been looking at the mate 8 for a while , i have mixed feelings about this one , some good things about it , big 4000 Mah battery, 1080p screen so it has above average battery life apparently. some things not so good , it has 1080p screen :) , i really like the galaxy amoled 2k screens ; ) , no 4k recording , metal back , so no wireless charging , probably only small things , but for myself i keep going back to the galaxy note, i did not get the note 5 due to the deleted features last year , i have big hopes the note 6 will make amends . i like the galaxy notes , you pretty much know every year samsung will try and put the best hardware possible in them . good luck with your choice , let us know what you get.

I bought his phone about 5 months ago (Mocha Gold) and I have to say that this is one of the best phones I've ever owned (and I've had them all - all Nexus phones, iPhones, OnePlus, Moto etc). The battery life is insane (lasts about 2.5 days for me), the build/materials are premium, the screen-to-body ration is one of the best out there, the fingerprint sensor is blazing fast. The downsides - camera (just about average) and Huawei's android build which is positively shitty. I've had to cover most of it up with Nova Launcher. Another oddity is that unless you manually allow for exceptions, apps don't run in the background when the screen is off - for example, you would want to go into battery manager and allow emails, whatsapp, textra etc to run when the screen is off so you're notified when you get a new email or message - same for every app that you want to get notifications from - this is a very odd implementation of battery saving measures and to be frank, I don't even understand why Huawei's doing this since I was given to understand that Android's memory/RAM management works differently in that it's best if apps are allowed to run in the background and max out on RAM (Android takes care of shutting down or "sleeping" off apps).
@123静水丨流深8 жыл бұрын
criticalpig The same feeling man, this phone is incredibly well designed and built. Its battery life is out-earth. I think people really need to pay more attention to HUAWEI instead of Samsung. And once HUAWEI lands on the U.S market, it is going to outshine Samsung so quickly.

desiviking do you think it's still worth buying? You can pick them up so cheap ATM. I know they've just released the Mate 9, but I live in Australia so it probably won't be available here for a while. @Ndasuunye9 жыл бұрын
hmm, the price turns me away since I'm cheap as shit. I think I'll just stick with the Honor 5X. That phone DEFINETELY isn't terrible and considering it's chipset, it works damn well despite it's visual quirks. I do most of my camming on a Nikon anyway, sound, I generally use headphones and the most I'll be using my interweb for is GPS & Pandora. Some games, but none that are CPU intensive; PAD, Monopoly....that's it lol. Documents won't be as big and if they are, then they will be downloaded onto the PC. Though even if I upload to social media, I don't think the slight hiccup in wait time should be too much of a hinderance on the 5X. Am I right?
