Well when pretty much the whole exterior is plastic screen scratch is not the only issue here. If you put this with some random stuff like keys in your pocket it could seriously damage it. Also spilling hot drink might cause wrinkles and display malfunction.

It is incredibly expensive at this stage but once it drops in price I think this would be particularly good for professionals as it really is a hybrid Tablet/phone. Otherwise, I think its awesome for mainstream people if only it was affordable, I certainly want one but can't afford it.

Unless they find a way to properly protect that folding display, I think it's just a technology for showing. I mean, even Samsung's Galaxy fold seems like it's gonna get some serious scratches upon using, but mate X is literally just exposed. Yes, it has its own covers but that would be not a solution. What if somebody doesn't want any kind of cases or cover for their phones? Are they still going to hold for months? Not to mention the screen brightness change due to using only half of it as a main screen. I mean, you can't even do a facetime with $2600 tablet, and the only way you take a selfie is to flip the phone, open the cover and activate the opposite side screen. This is a disaster in user experience and maintenance, even the cheapest smart phone doesn't have such problems. I know that Galaxy F has really small front screen, but think of the 2nd generation or the other application of flexible displays like 11-in tablet, 13-in laptop or so. These problems would get fixed and Samsung's in-folding tech has much more potential to be useful. On the other hand, Huawei has a long way to go to solve all these... That is why Samsung did not use the out-folding tech which is an outdated and seemingly hopeless. That explains why they're not showing it to anyone in MWC. It's because Chinese are actually trying to steal their tech, no matter what happens!

Too bad they only let you touch in a controlled environment. You don't actually get to hold it. And for the short period of time you did touch it it seems there was some difficulty for the device to get the orientation right. Of course I might be nitpicking after all all cell phones sometimes take a bit while to get the device position. But it got me wondering if that wasn't the reason why they didn't just let you hold it after all with a foldable screen it might be harder for them to adjust things so that the device decides in which way they should show the content.

According to a report which I cannot find now, Huawei initially made a foldable like the "Fold" but decided to scrap it because It was a bad design. I believe they probably had insider information as to what Samsung was doing and thought it best to go in a different direction. A 8 inch tablet is definitely better, but a 6.6 inch phone in that form is too big.

out folding is not good for phone. its simple, think about book cover. if you make book cover too tight cover will not close or it will rip. out folding need more rooms for screens to move around. thats why mate x is having ripple problem and thats why samsung and LG did not release out folding phone 10 years ago even they had a technology to make it
