The Huawei Mate Xs 2 is by far my favorite design. The only problem is durability. Once they figure out a way to make the flexible screen with some sort of gorilla glass it will be ready for the masses.

Yeah, Huawei Mate Xs 2 IMHO is the perfect foldable design, there is just a durability concern. The crease is already minimal, thinner, lighter and display for phone/folded mode is pretty much a regular phone. I wish it has better software and pen support. Samsung still wins for overall package, they just need to update the design.

It's funny to think back to how much I used to *hate* Samsung software years ago, because they really do now show how important getting it right is. When you compare the Fold 4 to things that are available outside the USA, yea it's a very conservative design, you could even call it "dated" within its niche. But boy do I just not want anything else when you've got that taskbar and multitasking features that just work so well vs other competing UIs.

Yeah it’s is a lot of money on the tablet to see which of these is the best. The Fold 4 is great but yes the design is lacking now. It’s time to move to a wider outer screen with stylus support and a lighter thinner build. I’m sure the Fold 5 will give us just that!

Samsung really brings the efficiency gain of the 8+G1 out really well, I'm quite surprised! Also, I really like the microphone on the Fold 4. It sounds really crisp and clear, not kinda muffled like the others.

They removed performance mode from the device as well. There's simply a battery saver or a standard mode. So it's kind of impossible to actually use the full power of the chip on the fold or the flip. I feel like this really didn't get much attention from reviewers, which I'm sure is what Samsung was banking on. It's not necessarily the wrong decision, but if you're going to nerf the power to the chip, you might as well just use an 870. And save everyone some money.

That’s true and Xiaomi let’s you have the full power of the chip but the issues is it will only last for about 13 minutes and overheat. While Samsungs methods of lowering the performance I don’t agree with at least it will not boot me out of games like the Mix Fold 2 does.

It's not just the 8+G1, the screen on the fold is like 50% more power efficient than screens before, and that's not due to the refresh rate, the screen has better materials, the screen tech is much better and more efficient

The Fold and Flip are heavily throttled out of the box. So Samsung has aimed at efficiency over performance. Check out Genshin reviews on the Fold, and even when you lower the display to compensate for its resolution, it performs well below other SD8+G1 devices, 15FPS on average. For me that is cheating, but if you do not want the full power it will obviously do better than other phones giving you the true ability of that new chip.

Terrific showdown Chris👌👌. You highlighted a few short comings on the Samsung hardware design, that need to be addressed. Their hardware design is getting outdated quickly . For the simple reason that the Z fold is in its 4th iteration, and Samsung are slacking, because they feel that they can! In terms of software Samsung have got it down though. @@Techtablets there are engineering limitations - something has to give.. ipx rating, wireless charging, pen support , gorilla glas invictus plus, heat is a big one- all these things can only be so small - that's why mix 2 overheats!. it's already a marvel of engineering but if you want to keep all those features that the others don't have - well there are some physical impossibilities right now.. if they overcome these in the next year I would be surprised..

I was rolling with a fold 3 and now I picked up the flip 4. I would go back to fold 5 when it comes out. I much prefer the front screen of the fold 4 compared to others due to being able to message with 1 hand and just use everything that is out there on the phone

I ended up going with the z fold 4 as I've had a note since the note 2 and I don't think I could have a phone without a pen ever again. The only 2 downsides are the outer screen and the visible crease, but the outer screen isn't as bad as I thought it would be, I can use it easily for most quick tasks. The crease is only noticable if you are looking for it, in any normal use I haven't been able to see the crease at all. I would love to see a slightly larger outer screen on the z fold 5 when they make it and a built in pen would be an amazing touch. It really is the best of everything for my own use though and I can't be upset with any aspect of it.

Question regarding the Mate Xs 2 - How much stronger is the screen on it compared to the fold 4? Because on the fold 4 when you close it it's durable. So you only need to be careful when you open it, but are worry free when it's closed. whereas in the xs 2 it's a constant durability concern (how do you put it in your pocket? Will your keys scratch it?). I have the fold 3, and when closed I accidentally made it fly in the air and hit the ground a few times, and it's completely fine.

Having used the mix 2 fold 4 and oppo Find N the fold is still the best simply because it’s the best of all worlds cover screen is big enough but still comfortable in one hand considering the phone is thicc even the mi mix is a struggle to use one handed with just the cover screen (I live alone and in a wet rainy country so using a one phone one handed is your only option or get soaked) the flex mode is fantastic makes me feel like I’m using an old Nokia communicator when I’m typing messages and it’s just more refined I like their approach get a design that works and refine it to near perfection

The Pixel Fold has ditched Samsung's design and is going with the more expansive front display. In fact, every other OEM is wider, and this is no doubt what consumer research shows. Samsung is keeping it because they have a near-monopoly, and their fans will buy it whatever.

Guys , if you disable the Miui optimizations in developer settings , you can view KZbin in split screen (landscape) but the orientation is reversed. If you open the phone in portrait mode , the split screen is in landscape but if you rotate the phone on landscape the split screen is in portrait. Also, I noticed all my notifications are coming through without delay and the side bar is disabled

I pick the Zfold4 and not even a percent of regret. For the looks, huawei and xiomi owns as these two are so dmn beautiful device. If you just want to showoff, then pick either the huawei or xiaomi. But, the zfold4 wins this. Hardware, software. Pen, flexmode, and my favorite, the Dexmode. As an IT guy, zfold4 is much better choice.

I tried different folding phones and finally got Mate xs2, a full body cover case is very necessary as it drops easily when unfold. However, the overall experience is good, very fast charging and good screen and camera. No Google and 5G don't cause much problem indeed.

Nice summary. All of them have flaws. Would have been nice to have a discussion about the lack of Google Services on the Xiaomi and Huawei phones which is a deal breaker for some of us. Even without that though, software is paramount. Anyone that got tricked into buying a Microsoft Surface Duo knows that so I would wait for years of proof from Xiaomi and Huawei before ever diving into their phones even though I like their form factor better. Too bad but it's the way it is. Fold 4 for me.

From a reviewers perspective i can understand you could overlook the lack of ip rating and warantee for western buyers on such expensive phone's, i was tempted by the mix fold 2 but the mentioned issues and no wireless charging the fact that as a first time fold owner, i could get samsung care plus included in the pre purchase and a big discount that definately beat any other foldables price point with doubled up storage bump. When looking at it like that if i wreck this 2k plus phone i can get a brand new one by shipped the same day for 299$ aud, on the negative side the lack of fast charging is a missing flagship feature, it could be thinner but i came from a mi 11 ultra and i was frustrated by the size and weight and difficulty to use one handed the z fold 4 is confortable one hand "with a phone grip*" hope this helps the undecided

Why did you run the temp tests a) folded 2) w/o a case ? I'm asusming both have a impact on heat dissipation, and IRL phones will be unfolded, for gaming, and with a case.

Couldn’t fit them on camera unfold and it doesn’t matter as folded or unfolded the Mix Fold 2 overheats either way. But they were all at the same point and folded when tested so that was still fair. It’s just to give people an idea. The Xiaomi has big thermal issues as they need to throttle it more like Samsung does.

@@Techtablets I broadly agree, but you keep assuming that heat is generated and not dissipated. Thermal throttling is a factor of both, not just one. The much bigger back of the Xiaomi might allow for more heat dissipation if there's some kind of heat sink... and if it's not folded in on itself. You should at least test it once, for yourself (doesn't need to be a polished vid), to see how folding and cases affect throttling. Imagine running your car wrapped all over in a blanket ^^ Same issue with screen glare: I'll take a 800 nits screen that only reflects back 3% of light, over a 1300 nits screen that reflects back 20%, any time !

I haved also used and tested some foldable phone including Z Fold 1, Z Fold 3, Z Fold 4, Mix Fold 2, Vivo X Fold and Mate Xs2. In my opinion, despite the fragile look, outer foldable is very durable and has the best design. This design is smart that it takes advantage of every space it can. I feel that it is no need to have 2 seperate screens, 2 seperate front camaras. Therefore, outer foldable phone is the best design, making the phone lighter, thinner and more comfortable to use. The most surprising part of the Mate Xs2 is its durability. I dropped this phone many times, on hard surface, with no protection, but the screen still works normally without any scratch. Well done Huawei! In the other hand, my Z Fold 1 and Z Fold 3 got broken screen (or cable problem) after several normal drops. What a shame, Samsung! The problem of the Mate Xs2 is the low battery life and no GMS

I loved the Mate XS2 and yes it's more durable than it looks I also dropped it and nother happened but my heart was in my stomach when it did! I've used the Mate X3 now and it's the best yet so far for the slim design, build and great set of cameras. Second place for me is the X Fold 2 from Vivo, great hardware with the two ultrasonic fingerprint readers. The big con for me is no Android auto and USB 2.0!

hi there... i just bought mix fold 2... i just wondering if the inner screen actually has screenguard attached? because it attract finger print and even wiping it using water wont remove the fingerprint... i dont want to actually wrongly peel the "screenguard" if it somehow part of the inner screen? i dont know where to ask this... so i hope i got some insight from other people... thanks alot..

The fact that I could never in my entire life afford or justify the purchase of one of these makes it less painful, but those with a ugly punch hole in the inner display are such an awful choice. I don't understand why you reviewers keep making a big deal of xiaomi not ruining their inner screen. Especially in the Huawei, with which you can already take stupid selfies with the better cameras using the same screen. And it's even worse for the phones with two screens because why the hell do you need a selfie camera ruining the inner screen when there's already a camera in the outer screen FOR WHICH YOU CAN ALSO USE THE OUTER DISPLAY. It makes me so sad, because folding phones could be so much cheaper if they avoided stupid stuff like that. If only they made a folding phone with no selfie or ridiculous cameras and no outer display, they could probably sell these for 600 or less...

Well yes the others outside the US are awsome and have bold designs but when you have to worry about pouring something you should not they fall way short the fold 4 is IPX8 and as far as UI's the fold 4 has it all multi tasking the task bar and samsung also works with some apps to be fold friendly me personally don't want to worry about splashes or pouring if my folding phone ain't IPX8

Such large phones and yet only one USB-C port, Xiaomi still rocking USB 2.0 while Huawei and Samsung does 3.1 so it has DisplayPort out (video out) but neither of these have headphone jacks, for such large devices you would at least expect a headphone jack and two USB-C ports, but no, you have to get Asus phones for those features, or Sony with a splitter cable.

Oh I can’t I sold my Vivo X Fold the software was so bad. Nice hardware and cameras but awful software even worse the the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2.

Great video as usual Chris! The results were to expected as Samsung has some years of experience ahead. I really hope the Chinese brands will make global versions to increase the pressure on Samsung. Or Google will come into the foldable market....so at least prices could drop

Im using iphone14 pro max as primary and samsung z fold4 as secondary phone but i really love this phone.... Im also. Thinking to buy mi mix fold2 but i already have 3 phones now.. Iphone 14 pro max, samsung fold4 and lg velvet. Fold 4 i got for 3000 with rogers 1tb version, iphone 256gb and lg velevt 128 gb.... I can replace lgvelevt but i love that phn too using from a year and half now never gave me any problem and cant replace samsung with mi too... I live in canada and i think they dont have any service centre here thats why

I been using the Mix Fold 2 for almost 1 month now, is extremely anoying phone as it just dont do some simple thing... Have you try changing the date format?, I can not do such thing the formart is set on is "Monday,mm,dd" and con not be change. I need it "dd,mm,yyyy"

In my opinion, talking about keyboard sizes and the size of items visible on the screen is totally banal, since the operating system allows you to change the keyboard applications and change the size of the fonts to be displayed.

I am an OPPO Find N fan. These three are too big and bulky for me. The OPPO is a much better design, IMHO. I am glad that Google has now moved to this design for their foldable and ditched the Fold lookalike. Out of the three, I would choose the Huawei XS2 as the design is clever and contemporary, rather than the Fold, a bit Nokia last century, although the Mix2 is interesting.

I love the outer fold design of the Mate XS 2 it has the best crease, the lightest design and very thin. Plus using it as a normal phone it feels great like a normal phone.

I love how symmetrical the front screen on the xaiomi looks, too bad it suffers from overheat. I was gonna buy it until i saw this video. Youre a great reviewer. I dont think Ive seen any reviewer expose the xiaomi overheating

Overheating is so common with the Xiaomi phones this isn’t the first time. It’s quite annoying as I cannot play Genshin Impact on high settings for them more 12-13 minutes before I’m booted out of the game due to overheating. Completely unacceptable.

Few things: -Fold 4 has the highest IP rating - which cannot be understated -The Huawei XS outerscreen is by far the most absurd concept at the CURRENT level of screen durability. Say goodbye to that screen for the highest price delta. I think you glossed over that for some reason with a extremely weak argument. -daily usability > less frequently used features (imo) -outerscreen aspect ratio is based on the user need, so consider stating the use cases -where is the price to performance and feature comparisons like you do for your other comparisons? I.E. between cheaper Chinese OEM flagship or midrange phones to non-chinese OEM equivalents. That being said, I would NOT spend the money on any of these foldables because they are too expensive and a slab-phone is perfectly satisfactory for my needs.

I thought foldables were a waste of money as well but then I tried using one for a week. They really are a game changer since it's basically like carrying a tablet around. Sure there are some situations where a phone would be more appropriate but it would be hard for me to go back after having used one. I figure that this is an example of the dreadnought effect I.E., when something new comes out that basically makes everything else obsolete overnight and resets the counter back to zero for everybody. Sort of like what happened when they launched the orginal iPhone. Consequently, I would argue that spending your money on a slab phone - outside of a cheap burner phone, I suppose - is a waste of money since you are more or less just investing in what is obsolete technology. Especially when, outside of the camera, there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference between a good mid-range phone and your modern flagship phone.

The mix fold 2 cameras are so badly optimised it’s embarrassing for Xiaomi and even Leica. Then need to fix them asap. The Mate XS 2 surprised me with some good cameras especially the zoom camera.

Thanks for the review. For westerners I think the fold 4 is the best. There are no perfect foldable, there are compromise with every one of them. Nice to see though how the folding phones developed in just a few years. I hope in the coming years we will get some nicer desings and more polished tech. I have the fold 4, its the first foldable I ever had. Antutu is over a million for me though, so I think you just done the test after the other test? Good review as always.

The Fold 5 will be great I think with a design more like the Mix Fold 2. The Antutu scores are lower as I used Antutu Lite. Different scoring system. I used it as I could not install the normal version on the Huawei Maye XS 2.

Hopefully for new design given the time they have, will remain as robust as Fold 4 if not better. Hopefully no more that issue like the first Samsung Fold, which is understandable for first foldable product but still terrible.

I really do wonder why Samsung didn't go for a design like Huawei, I feel confident they could pull it off but there has to be a reason they haven't done it yet. I'm assuming something with reliability. I don't mind the increase in thickness tbh but I feel they could do better with the crease and the gap when it's closed. Still cool to see how this form factor is progressing.

Maybe they are reserving the new design on Fold 5 or 6, I hope. And they just pretty much re-use but slightly updated the design for Fold 4 because it is a mature design for Samsung now, which means better reliability, they can make it water resistant now, pen support, thermals, able to fit better cameras, etc. But it will be perfect if Samsung can have similar Huawei wider display. I would accept even its not as wide, since the side benefit of narrower display of Samsung is it is so easy to hold when folded, feels more secure at hand. Its just too narrow.

Samsung fold 4 untablet mode display is too small 😆 👎, Xiaomi mix fold 2 is just amazing and cool animation when tablet mode is closed 💝.
