As a healthcare worker myself, several of my patients have white-coat hypertension, which is high blood pressure that only appears when someone is seeing a doctor/therapist/nurse. Such a device will help doctors determine such patients' blood pressure in the absence of a clinican, so we can tell whether it is actually white-coat syndrome. The alternative is to keep a diary where you monitor your BP every few hours and write it down in a notebook, but not everyone is compliant to it. But I do wonder what is the validity and reliability of this specific watch though

Great point and great question. You're right, it takes dedication to record down our BP every now and then. I personally use an app so everything is digitized. As for the watch, I was also intrigued about the accuracy and reliability of this watch because I rather get an accurate reading, if not I'd rather not take any at all. After cross-checking with my own OMRON BP Monitor, I find that it gets pretty close if I use the watch correctly. That said, our BP fluctuates all the time so here's my take. 1 - The 2 certifications obtained by Huawei proves that this is actually good data (provided it is taken correctly). 2 - This watch allows people with BP issues to be able to monitor their BP more often, and at anywhere they are, and have all measurements recorded digitally which can be shared easily. 3 - I'd still recommend people to use data from the watch only as a guide/reference. You should still keep your BP machines, and check in with a doc regularly.

In China, doctors recognize the measurement data from Huawei WATCH D, and the data is highly accurate.The second generation is about to be released. I don't think it will be inferior to the first generation, right?

I brought 2 of this for me and my wife and this is the best smart watch what you able to buy on the market. ❤ Top features and amazing battery life. I l use all on to track my blood pressure and O2, hart rate all automatically and in still able to use the smartwatch for more that 7days which is amazing. Samsung and Apple Watch are not bad but the battery life is extremely poor. I will not rush now to buy this watch if you have some financial difficulties is still expensive around £350 but is more cheaper that ultra watch from Samsung and apple . And yes Huawei watch D2 is an ultra watch even better. ;)

I just had my watch d2 few days ago. Using for 3 days in the row now and activating the abpm for 1 straight days. Battery is still about 55% as we are speaking. Compared my bp with traditional bp measurement. It s almost accurate with about 1-2% difference only! Best useful gadget I ever bought for years.

I'm amazed at how biased the Western media is (actually bought out, haha). How can a watch like this exist, and nobody talks about it? No channel, whether European or here in Brazil… it's as if it doesn't exist. You have to go to Asian channels to learn more about the product. I think it's amazing to have this technology. But when the Apple Watch is reduced by a few millimeters, gets a new processor, and becomes more expensive, there are 50 videos on every channel. I really hate that 😮‍💨.

This watch (D2) and it's predecessor (D) was featured in western media. Maybe not on youtube, but on paper media like magazines. There is even a competitior from Germany using a similar system with inflating airbags, but that watch is AFAIK only sold online while the Huawai D & D2 is aviable most of the big electronic stores.

Yes it can. But the thing is, your hand might not be in the right position for it to collect accurate data. Hence, the best would be to take the reading when you're actually awake and in the right position.

Yeah i find it kinda impressive too. Based on my finding, it's definitely more accurate than other watches that use the HR Monitoring sensors for measuring BP.

Just wondering, When sleeping how does the watch take the measurement since our hand might not be placed correctly?

Because when we take measurements during the day, we sit or stand. The height of the wrist is not consistent with the height of the heart, so we need to use the correct posture to ensure the accuracy of the measurement. But when we take measurements at night while we sleep, we're lying in bed, the height of the wrist is the same as the height of the heart. So we don't need to maintain the daytime posture, it also can ensure the relative accuracy of the measurement.

Except for this Huawei watch, I don't think there is any smartwatch currently on the market that is certified by medical institutions regarding the accuracy of the blood pressure monitoring feature and doesn't require frequent recalibration using a regular blood pressure monitoring device. There are some watches claiming to have the blood pressure monitoring feature but do check properly if they are certified by proper medical institutions for accuracy and which doesn't require frequent recalibration.

No, not needed with D2.

No you do not. It on it's own uses similar tech on an actual BP monitor so it works similarly. Just make sure you put your hand at the right position. I saw someone else who also compared it with BP Monitor, the readings are very near.

Not actually. Feels just like a normal strap, and the lightweightness helps to make it feel even less apparent on your wrist.
