I have been following her for a while - she used to be known as “if Kim wore clothes.” Her aesthetic reminds me of a lot of the patterns I have in my Japanese sewing books.

The aesthetic is really cute but maybe trending a bit too much towards nightgowns for me. The model pulls off the loose fit style well but I feel like I’d look like a sack of potatoes 🥔

Right click on the size chart. Open it in a new tab and you can zoom in. These patterns remind me of a lot of the patterns I have in a Japanese sewing book. I love the simplicity of them and I agree fabric selection becomes very important when making this type of pattern.
@derendathieke89472 жыл бұрын
Probably the exception here, but I really don't care for the patterns. I think they look like straight sacks with ruffles or gathers, and while the drawings were mostly cute, they didn't live up to expectations in the photos. The 'Suzy' dress is almost exactly like my favorite summer nightgown that I have been wearing for years (and is probably on its final season 😔) and the June dress is like a less fitted old pattern I have from Butterick. You are right about bias cut clothing! If people have not made bias cut clothing before, they really should! Maybe start with a simple bias skirt if you don't feel comfortable starting with a dress, but if you make a really nice dress on the bias it will probably become your favorite!

I’m trying to move away from the need for zips ,buttons and purchased interfacing, so this brand/collection is definitely appealing to me.

Thanks for alerting me to this company - I'm here for comfy, cute clothing. I just checked the website and the first price is NZ dollars and the second price appears in GB pounds as I'm in the UK. It's not obvious in your review as it's showing both in dollars. Really cute designs at a great price. Thanks.

that bias-cut dress is really very nice. That one looks good on the model. The long tie ends at the shoulders really look elegant. It has a 20s vibe. I agree with you that overall most of those patterns are almost the same. They should all be views in one pattern envelope.

Etsy kind of screws creators over and takes a portion of their sales. However the creators get a lot more traffic if they have an Etsy shop. So a lot of creators have created an e-commerce shop off of Etsy and one on etsy. This is my understanding of why indie designers have two shops. 😁
@InsidetheHem2 жыл бұрын
The commerce sites take a fee, too. To process the payments. And, then it costs money to host the website, too, which Etsy doesn't charge for. I think it has to do with a US v International thing.
@coachcasey98232 жыл бұрын
My friend switched from Etsy to her own shop because of numerous complaints against Etsy for false charges and lack of reimbursement, or reimbursement taking months. Many, many Etsy creators have had major issues with their practices and response to shop owners. Owners often host both until they can drive more of their Etsy traffic to their own website.

I recently bought a PDF pattern from a British company … but I had to make my purchase through their Etsy shop. I think it had to do with the money stuff - conversation rates, taxes, etc.

You’re so right, the illustrations don’t always match up with the pictures. A little “ditzy” print might work for some of these styles rather than just solids.

Checkout their instagram and the pattern hashtags. You might be able to see some other "models" that way.

Most of those patterns have absolutely no bust shaping or they just hang like a tent. That might be OK with really soft drapy fabric over a full bust. I would not want to wear those designs in a crisp fabric.

There's some customer reviews of the Julia dress that include pictures of the dress bring made with print cottons. It actually looks really cool with prints! I'm making it with black cotton and am sweating a bit. I'd like a black, dreamy, linen dress to style with a corset. Hoping it turns out alright...,🤞

What a find! So cute and full of personality. Wish there were darts for fuller busts. Is there a technique for adding darts? If yes would love a tutorial.
@InsidetheHem2 жыл бұрын
Of course! Sewing Rabbit has a good one called How to add a Side Dart for Proper Fit. But, reach out to Kim first, She might have added in the shaping and then rotated the dart out so you wouldn't see it but the shaping is there.

It doesn't look to me like there is bust shaping. The designer is petite with a small bust, so she looks cute in these design without much shaping. I would definitely add bust darts. I enjoyed seeing all the designs, but only a couple might look good on my fuller figure. Thanks for show Hubbading. These are really cute and I love the website design. Reminds me of a board game. But I'm tall with a small waist so those designs wouldn't suit my frame. These would be perfect for a young person just learning to sew.

My only concerns about these patterns is a lot of them are based on simple rectangular shapes.As she said she'll only give the measurements for simple shapes are you going to be buying a pattern with very few pattern pieces.
@InsidetheHem2 жыл бұрын
Why is that a concern? I'd prefer that, I think. Less to print!
@missdemeanor35242 жыл бұрын
@@InsidetheHem And you barely even need scissors for the rectangle pieces; just rip the fabric to size.
@coachcasey98232 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of these designs would look a little softer and less dramatic with lighter weight fabric. She likes to sew with more structured fabrics which make the dresses stand out from her body more. I would like to see samples in different fabrics and lighter colors. It’s so hard to see pattern fit and details in dark fabrics.

I’m going to show my age here, but when I was a kid, we wore these dresses as “granny nightgowns” to sleep. I prefer clothes that enhance my womanly curves. The majority of these designs totally conceal the bust, waist and hips. Why not just wear a sack? Sorry: I know a lot of young women love these styles. I just don’t know why!
