Sunday's battle at Hubbardton this month from a Light Infantry and Battalion Soldier's Point of View

His Majesty's Tenth Regiment of Foot in America is a historically re-created infantry unit formed to portray the service of the British Army during the American War for Independence.
Composed of three types of soldier, Grenadiers-typically larger men who are used as shock troops, a company of Light infantry, generally smaller, more agile men--capable of maneuvering in the dense wilderness to skirmish or flank the enemy, and a battalion company--a company of regular soldiers, capable of mass volleys and were the heart of the army and are trained in both Grenadier and Light Infantry tactics. We also have a company of Music, who provide music and commands to the army. Last but certainly not least, a Corps of Civilian Volunteers--who provide food to the regiment during encampments and accurately portray civilian and camp life of the 18th century. Each is open for recruitment. The members of the Tenth are accurately uniformed, equipped, and trained in 18th-century military drill and life so that we appear in public as members of the British Army would have in 1775. What type of camera does one use to capture this? I would assume it is a smaller camera with not many straps so it can hide amongst the rest of the uniform.

We used to do this as kids with BB guns and our dad's workshop glasses. I still have battle scars to this day!

I liked the voice over describing stuff I already knew but still nice to hear. I was disappointed when I heard Parapet firing, and then they commenced with no parapet firing. I think the rude Sargent gave the order to move to the next shrubbery though. Haven't seen a lot (or any) parapet firing at events ever.

Hi SirFrederick, We are glad you enjoyed the narrations. What the Battalion soldiers were doing in the clip you are referring to at 5:38 is essentially parapet firing (minus the parapet of course.) In lieu of the parapet, the soldiers are using the bush for cover and firing while the other reloads which is the fundamental basis of the tactic. Also--you don't have to worry about Sjt. DeRosa being rude, even though he probably appreciates this sentiment about his field presence, in person he is quite amiable. If you come to a drill you can meet him in person for yourself! Thanks for watching!

Since I’m watching your vids, I thought I’d comment again. Hits. Also, I, as in me, find commands in the American “command voice” a little distracting. Yes, I’m splitting hairs. I’m also a reenactor and, as you know, we can’t un-see stuff. The Americans need to take hits also. Don’t get me wrong, bringing this to life for the average ‘ron is great. In full color. My nitpicky comments are not meant to be rude. Just what I think… thanks for your work.

We appreciate your comments and they are valid critiques! You did see some rebels taking hits, though as we discussed on the last video, we are more focused on the tactical demonstration aspect in front of the public instead of the theatrical element. There are some events where faking deaths are not allowed at all! Though we do agree it could add some to the realism. In terms of the accent/voice. This is not often policed for the same reason why we don’t use British accents when talking to the public-without recordings-there is no way to know how soldiers spoke! English accents changed drastically during the Victorian era, and we have no way to know what they were prior, thus we use the accent we are most comfortable with - as opposed to doing a poor attempt at an unnatural accent. We thank you again for watching and commenting! Hope you enjoyed and stay tuned for some informational videos!

Thanks for your reply. I’m guessing I’d just not do an event that said no hits. I understand your reasons. How often do you guys do tactical events??

@@marshwise6951 If you mean the private tacticals we’ve posted about over the last 6 or so months, these are a new phenomenon and we are aiming to do 2-3 a year. In terms of battle events in general, the 10th generally will do somewhere between 8-12 “reenactment” events per year. Hope that helps!
