As an NC State fan I was tempted to say something snarky and rude about him. But listening to his full press conference..."this is where I became a Christian....this is where I fell in love with my wife" I was really touched and felt this guy is real, principled, and flat out brilliant. "I am proud to be African-American and I'm also proud my wife is white". Wow.

I thought that was one of the most stupid comments that any coach anybody could make. Who cares what color his wife was or is I think most people were more concerned about how he was going to run the program and who he is then his wife being a certain color period. I don't know where that comment came from what was his goal, what was the purpose when any new coach is ask a question like that I have never heard a coach ever respond in that way my wife is green yellow blue purple who cares all people want to know and care about is the program wins and losses. It's people like coach Davis that continues the unnecessary conversations about race and so forth I think the comment was so out of place

Yea, he's on some UNC committee's list for political reeducation camp after those remarks! But he also seems like the kind of guy who will not accept that. Dean Smith got huge grief for supporting a former player who was running for office as a Republican. He had the clout to tell the PC crowd to shut up and move on.

I wish he had missed those free throws in the '94 Conference Semis vs the Bulls after that phantom foul when he was a Knick, but hearing him talk about his emotions about getting the job and the loyalty he has to the program I can't be happier about him getting this job. This is a good choice for UNC. Mr. Davis was a player there and has been an assistant coach for many years. He is a big part of the UNC family. I'm not a Carolina fan but I don't think they could have made a better choice.

We didn't know who but we knew the new coach would probably be black. UNC has a winning tradition and the timing is perfect for him to come in and re-build HIS team. It's tougher now for Duke and Carolina to dominate as in the past but I believe he will do a good job; good choice.

As a duke fan, they will be fine. One of the historic programs in college basketball. Though I don't like to think this is about race (not the hiring) Hiring a minority coach would actually benefit in recruiting. Hubert would be able to relate to other young black men in different communities.

The NBA needs to bring back the ability to draft High School players again. Let these kids who are clearly lottery picks skip college and enter the draft and let the kids who know they're not ready go to college to get better. It absolves the college coaches from having to recruit kids who are not committed past 1 year. It will even the playing field because you'll have more kids who want to be in college for several years.

Nice guy, terrible choice - at least by the stats and just reality of existing coaching staff. Since his arrival at Carolina they have lost 12% more games than Roy did without him. He was lauded as a shooter coach upon his arrival at UNC, and three point shooting in the last 2 seasons has been under 31%. He has no head coaching experience and this is no mid-major job or second tier power conference team - it is one of the best jobs in College Basketball. He's been an armchair coach (analyst) for a lot of his career. He was part of a staff that was complicit with the biggest academic scandal in College Sports, regardless of the outcome. Time to move on Carolina.

Bad decision. Why not add a coach with Head Coaching experience AND keep Davis on the staff? That way you could have both and not just one. He could be a Head coach one day but I just don’t see this working out long term
