Hublot Big Bang Unico 42 Flyback Chrono Review

Hublot is a popular brand, and a divisive one amongst watch enthusiasts. Today I share the Big Bang Unico 42 in titanium and ceramic. This carries the fully in house skeletonized HUB 1280 flyback movement. It really is the star of the bold show here. I know Hublot isn't everyone's cup of tea. But I sure think its an enjoyable one. Facts: 1) it is an in house chrono movement designed from the ground up, not a club sandwich chrono module mounted on a 3 hand movement 2) 72h power reserve and a flyback function 3) Ceramic/titanium which is what you need for a watch of this design 4) Quick change strap system 5) A fairly solid brand with presence and a strong backing from LVMH 6) Looks great if you're into rubber strap sport watches Pretty steep at retail, but at market price it is a package that is hard to beat

I used to sh*t on hublot, but the unico big bang, and especially the meca10 line, truly impressed me. Now i want a meca10! Never thought I’d ever say this - hublot makes some uber cool watches!

This is a great review, I owe other brands, including several Hublots, Classic fusion is my favorite of them all. I am not in the market to make money, there is other ways to invest. H Every time I wear a HUBLOT is definitely a conversation starter. Hublot is the only watch you can wear with EVERYTHING. I was looking at the Zenith DEFY as well, but all roads lead to a HUBLOT and most definitely my choice for a present to me in 2021. After all a watch becomes and extesnion of you for Time to Come, Hublot is it that for me. Thank you for a well put together review,

You nailed it in this review! I just bought the black ceramic one of this. Stare at it all day, the movement is incredible to look at. Definitely own multiple watches, and this is my favorite be far.

I am seriously thinking about getting the ceramic one, but at my local store they only have the 45mm to try it on and it fits way too big, my wrist is 19cm. Which one did you get? how does it fit?

Yes there’s better watches with more beauty and better movements. but Hublot has that gaudy in your face style that makes you feel like a big time athlete. Sometimes you need a purely fun and crazy watch, I dig it.

That intro was dare I saw out of this world? fantastic. It's great seeing watches that most of us will never see in the metal. I think we usually have to rely on Watchfinder for this type stuff, so great episode. They should have taken a cue from the Zenith Defy Skeleton to show the date perfectly in that format.

Great review, Bruce. You are being too nice on Hublot. I like how you framed it a watch brand that attracts a distinct clientele. While Hublot is frowned upon in the US, it is considered an awesome brand in India and is extremely popular with the G-Wagen, Maserati and orange Lambo drivers.

I think their watches are excellent even though I have pretty classical taste. They have an interesting catalog and this isn’t the only Big Bag in the line. This is a great urban lifestyle watch for coffee shop people.

I truly believe that people hate on Hublot as a brand way too much. Yes, they have made some utterly horrific watches (and still do), but they also make some very well designed watches which are actually rather good-looking. Assuming you have good taste when it comes to watches; you can pick out a very classy watch from Hublot! I also don’t care about the stereotypes that are often attached to Hublot, because I don’t believe in stereotypes at all. At the end of the day - what other people think of your taste in watches doesn’t really matter. We all have different tastes and we’re all attracted to different things 🤷🏻‍♂️ Just wear the watch that makes you happy and don’t worry about what other people think ✌🏼

Totally agree. Indeed there are some ugly and extravagant watches in their catalog, but there are plenty of beautiful models in the Classic Fusion and Big Bang lines. All very well made. Hublot gives you many options. And at preowned level have very competitive prices. Don’t really understand why all the hate...

Je l ai essayé hier sur Cannes. Et vraiment au poignet c est une beauté. La céramique faisant vraiment un superbe mélange avec le titane. Elle est pas si grosse que cela, et très confortable. Enfin en plus un vrai mvt maison visible et qui donne une très jolie vue. Pourtant quand elle est sortie j étais pas super chaud... comme quoi il y a que les cons qui changent pas d avis

Hi Bruce, I feel Hublot is an over rated brand. With no history of its own, it has been selling watches at exorbitant prices. I'd rather go for a Rolex or an Omega or Breitling instead of a Hublot.

Personally I love the designs of Hublot - it's all a matter of personal taste. However, I would rather go with the Carrera Tourbillion ( heuer02t) and save a few $.

It is a basic truth that you cannot judge a watch fairly until you hold and wear it. For a moment, an hour, a day or a month. The details, both positive and negative, are usually not apparent if you do not have time with it. The more, the better. I bet that watch is fun to wear. It seems special. As for the price, you nailed it. That watch is not for the value proposition-obsessed WIS. I dig it. I don't think I would buy it. You never know though. --Michael

Jumping or not of the chronograph hand is determined by the type of the clutch and gear profile, not by the column wheel or cam system.

I think it’s actually quiet good looking and great movement . However it’s big and big watches I find only ever work for me as occasional pieces . as I’ never find that they are quite right on the wrist so wouldn’t be for me . I think the guys who buy this are often non watch enthusiasts who want wrist presence and statement on the wrist and often only have the one watch They are a huge favourite of sportsmen

tried this at a local AD, the clasp was pressing so hard on my artery. the SA adjusted the strap to my wrist size but the clasp was killing me slowly.

If I had to much money to spend I would go for a classic Big Bang in homage to JCB and his genius vision.

I like your channel I’ve been a long-time watcher but I’m starting to feel like all this being reviewed are watches that are cost more than buying a car. I just fail to understand why someone would spend this much on the watch and how people have this much of an expenditure cash lying around That they would consider buying one. ..... must be nice I guess for those that can afford it but for the average guy not so much. Your channel start to become like the billionaires boys club for watch Enthusiast. Thanks for the feedback Habitat Studios. I try my best to mix it up here. In the past two weeks I've had Serge Panchenko, Oris, Longines, Visitor, Rolex, Omega, Mitch Mason, and Hublot highlighted. Next week there will be Panerai, Draken, Gorilla, Blancpain, and Glashutte Original. Still waiting on my new Seikos. I know not everyone is interested in all price points. But I enjoy the spectrum and try to showcase it all :)
