This is truly a work of art. It's just so beautiful and captivating to watch the pieces move and see how tiny they are, so precise and made by hand a very steady talented hand as well. And how the globe looks when the lights are off, just perfect. I've never seen this watch or any watches like it, but as a kid this is the watch that I had always hoped would be made and I'd find and be able to buy. Sadly, I'll NEVER be able to buy this. Edit: There are 705 components in that watch. At a price of $500,000 USD, that makes each individual piece, yes, even a tiny spring or gear or screw, costs an average of $709. $709 EACH PIECE AVERAGE PRICE.

@@kasipromod7382 For people who buy it probably yeah. I mean it takes extremely highly skilled workers to make and engineer this. And those experts are already on low supply. IDK about the price, but otherwise, so cool. I would love to see a doc on start to finish making it - from engineering to fabricating the parts to tuning it up ready to roll out the front door. I can't quite wrap my head around the idea of something so miniaturized and complicated being hand-assembled and tuned. Would love to know how they do it.

There's probably few hundred dollars worth of materials in a whole thing. It's how much they decide to charge for work. You know, there is market for those things. Hard to deny - it is beautiful. But the price tag is still hilarious. Edit. Actually I was curious. I couldn't find any information on weight of this watch. Their official page is too cool for actual information to be displayed. So I just took a weight of an average Submariner of 155g as my very rough weight estimate. It can't be too far off either way. So let's say it's 150g. Current price of platinum is around 27 dollars per gram. That means if this thing was a solid chunk of platinum it would cost just around 4000 dollars.
@nostalium5 жыл бұрын
MrCorvusC I do agree and believe that it is a marvel of engineering and precision. The price they charge is 90+ percent because of the amount of time and craftsmanship put into the production of each one of the hundreds of pieces And their assembly. Unlike most of the commenter, I would be very tempted to buy it if I had the money, not as a piece of jewelry but an engineering marvel.
@oscarcordero44365 жыл бұрын
@@Quicksilver_Cookie the watch has hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of man hours spend into it. Yes, a piece of platinum cost less, but you're not taking into consideration how the platinum is given shape, finished, and polished. Not only that but this process of making the case of the watch is only done by a few select people, whose skill is getting rarer and rarer by the day. That is just the case of the watch, you also have to take into account the rest of the components that are finished painstakingly to the macrometer by hand, without the help of machines. Even the smallest component that won't see the light of day ever again is finished to this standard. If anything the packaging cost a few hundred dollars

Labas Labas last time I checked, this watch doesn’t hold billions of transistors in a small space Arrogant people like you are a cause of devolution

@@CarlosSanchez-en6mr who cares about boring transistors and parts made by machines. Quality hand made products will always be more impressive, more valuable than something made by copy paste machine. Look at old buildings, they are all unique, they all have beautiful ornamentation, sculptures made by skilled sculptors and compare them to boring glass boxes made from the same pre-assembled blocks. Functionality and efficiency is not what makes our world beautiful. Yes, I don't like some modern "innovations" and I am more impressed by traditional culture, nature, local history, past achievements, craftmenship then some run of the mill self driving electric cars or blade runner's depressing future.

These watches occupy a truly unique niche market: a piece of technology that is so exquisitely crafted it doesn't matter that its obsolete compared to literally any smartphone and an its an excuse for grown men to wear jewellery.
