I don't think everyone realises how impressive this piece is. The engineering is crazy. So many moving parts and complications, yet it has no power source, it only runs on kinetic energy and inertia. My mind can't comprehend how difficult mastering this is.

That and the fact is has no alarm, you can't take it everywhere out of fear of it being stolen, can't tell you different time zones, has no stopwatch, and is quite impractical. I dislike smart watches, but at least you can answer calls, control music from your headphones though your watch, count your steps, etc all for a less than 1% cost. Rich people have more money than sense and hustlers make horribly overpriced shit for them to stroke their ego. We should be laughing at them instead of playing along so they stop doing stupid shit like buying twitter.

It's very cool but these watches need to be manually adjusted every few weeks anyways due to the inherent inaccuracy of mechanical watches. For every mechanical watch without this feature, this simply means doing a full rotation to skip a leap date.
@niklasloow1995
@niklasloow1995 2 жыл бұрын
@@mike4402 No they don't. If you buy the cheaper versions you do but when you go up in the price range they get more and more accurate. Grand seiko even adjust their new watches to not run too quickly in the beginning. (Many lower budget runs too quick the first 2-5 years and then get more accurate).

This is truly a work of art. It's just so beautiful and captivating to watch the pieces move and see how tiny they are, so precise and made by hand a very steady talented hand as well. And how the globe looks when the lights are off, just perfect. I've never seen this watch or any watches like it, but as a kid this is the watch that I had always hoped would be made and I'd find and be able to buy. Sadly, I'll NEVER be able to buy this. Edit: There are 705 components in that watch. At a price of $500,000 USD, that makes each individual piece, yes, even a tiny spring or gear or screw, costs an average of $709. $709 EACH PIECE AVERAGE PRICE.

@@kasipromod7382 There are hundrets if not thousands of hours put into a single watch, and if one piece isnt perfect its immediatly replaced. @@kasipromod7382 For people who buy it probably yeah. I mean it takes extremely highly skilled workers to make and engineer this. And those experts are already on low supply. This product is quite niche as well as expensive, meaning limiting people buying it, so you can't expect big sales even if it was not limited edition. his means you can't make factory lines and things that would bring the cost down for mass production. Meaning every part will cost a lot. When you are making something like this whole supply chain is expensive, along with people that are making it.

IDK about the price, but otherwise, so cool. I would love to see a doc on start to finish making it - from engineering to fabricating the parts to tuning it up ready to roll out the front door. There's probably few hundred dollars worth of materials in a whole thing. It's how much they decide to charge for work. You know, there is market for those things. Hard to deny - it is beautiful. But the price tag is still hilarious. Edit. Actually I was curious. I couldn't find any information on weight of this watch. Their official page is too cool for actual information to be displayed. So I just took a weight of an average Submariner of 155g as my very rough weight estimate. It can't be too far off either way. So let's say it's 150g. Current price of platinum is around 27 dollars per gram. That means if this thing was a solid chunk of platinum it would cost just around 4000 dollars.
@nostalium
@nostalium 5 жыл бұрын
MrCorvusC I do agree and believe that it is a marvel of engineering and precision. The price they charge is 90+ percent because of the amount of time and craftsmanship put into the production of each one of the hundreds of pieces And their assembly. Unlike most of the commenter, I would be very tempted to buy it if I had the money, not as a piece of jewelry but an engineering marvel.
@oscarcordero4436
@oscarcordero4436 5 жыл бұрын
@@Quicksilver_Cookie the watch has hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of man hours spend into it. Yes, a piece of platinum cost less, but you're not taking into consideration how the platinum is given shape, finished, and polished. Not only that but this process of making the case of the watch is only done by a few select people, whose skill is getting rarer and rarer by the day. That is just the case of the watch, you also have to take into account the rest of the components that are finished painstakingly to the macrometer by hand, without the help of machines. Even the smallest component that won't see the light of day ever again is finished to this standard. If anything the packaging cost a few hundred dollars
