I love the times when you show us bits and pieces of your performances. My son is a US Navy advanced music instructor and conductor. He is of course no longer home, but I loved when he was home and I could hear him practicing every day. He plays the Euphonium and the Trombone. I also loved his college concerts. I have attended some of his US Navy concerts, and I adore going to those.

Kay, I live with a musician! Having that separate space from the living spaces is IMPORTANT. I have my craft/ Nail room/ office is a godsend. His having his music/office room is also a godsend. We can keep communal/ living spaces more uncluttered and comfy, guest friendly, and we don't feel like we're living in a dorm room!

Me too, except we share the office space! Our second bedroom is the music and diy room lol. DIY supplies are in a dresser. We have instruments hanging in the office and have 2 desks. Bigger equipment like speakers and more instruments are in the garage in a corner so it’s easier to take out to gigs. Oh I guess there’s also one hanging in the living room and bedroom lol

@@MakeupCleaningAndCats we do have a guitar in the bedroom, and two in the LR, but the rest of his instruments (more guitars, a bass, keyboards and drum pads, speakers, and gig gear are in his music room/office. He doesn't gig out much anymore, due to hearing issues, but is recording. So now he has recording equipment, too! I have my own jewelry studio, nail studio and office in the upstairs larger room. I also have been doing genealogy for 38 yrs. We're able to keep our living spaces less cluttered. I prefer it this way, as does he!

@@MakeupCleaningAndCats it's beaded and bead weaving.....lots of little tiny supplies! Add in all the binders and whatnot for genealogy, and my nail polish fetish, and it's chaos! Lol! I learned that I'm a micro organizer, prefer frosted containers, and cube shelving!

Ohh for crafting, as soon as I put my supplies in opaque storage, they don't exist to me any longer. to avoid craft supplies being forgotten, I try to rotate my craft hobbies out every month. Even my fountain pen inks get rotated, a new color palette every month for my journal! Rotating hobbies helps me avoid feelings of burnout, which inevitably lead me to abandon the hobby permanently. Regarding the items of a loved one who has passed, I believe in keeping small items. For my grandma, I kept a crochet doily that her mother made, a couple of jewelry items, cookbooks, and the tube of lipstick she was actively using (Maybelline Pink Rose, very traditional old lady grandma pink, which I plan on getting rid of because cosmetics grow things on them, but at the time I couldn't leave it...). For my gram, it was her very well loved cigarette case and a ring that I still wear every day. I struggle to dispose of letters. I still have every letter my mom wrote me after my folks split when I was a child. Having a writing sample from a loved one, knowing they took the time to put pen to paper, I can't let go of those. I've kept handwritten recipes and continue to ask my dad to write out recipes for me in his hand. One of the most beautiful things I found when flipping through my grandma's cookbook was a simple to-do list / grocery list. I never appreciated that chicken scratch handwriting so much. To the beautiful lovely commenter who is having a hysterectomy, I hope everything goes smoothly ❤❤
