And thank you for not only pronouncing Marie correct, but also not framing the konmari method as a road to minimalist aesthetics or minimalism per se, but for what it is: finding your favourites and having only the best for YOU! I'll quote you from now on about not being a quantity police ❤

I learned to ignore size tags. Sizes are inconsistent and vanity driven. I try EVERYTHING on. I buy what fits best and looks best in fabrics that are natural or blends. I have items tailored - it’s worth it. I buy mostly secondhand. I also sew so can custom fit myself and do my own alterations. I purge twice a year and donate to local thrift or resell if it’s in great shape. I take care of my items. I organize by type and color. And step- stools are a must!! 🥰❤👍

For clothing that's been worn for a few hours that are not ready to go in the hamper, I hang them up at the front of the closet. On laundry day, if they are still hanging up, then they get washed. Or if they got worn again before laundry day, then they go in the hamper. Works great.

2 tips I took from watching your videos is the hangers and folding vertically. My closets look so much neater and I wear shirts I forgot I have and love. I use the drawer organizers because they help keeping items vertical. I also do this with my bras as you mentioned in a video (easier to find the right one). I organize blouses and skirts from light to dark which makes them easier to find.. GREAT tips.😊💜

I redid my closet last year with Elfa and I’m so happy I did. My husband and I also reduced the amount of clothing we had so everything fits in the closet (walk in, 2 walls used). Organizing really makes life easier when you make systems that work for you. And a lot of the tips I got from you, thanks Kay!

1. Loving the blouse. 2. I know I've mentioned some tales about the wackiness of my house, and now I can add another. The shelf in my closet is warped. It has been warped for as long as I have lived in said house. What even... 3. You had to end with the Nutcracker Suite, didn't you? I know I am craving the return of sweater weather.

I have reduced my inventory so that putting my clothes away is just as easy as not putting them away. This helps me finish the laundry too- before, squeezing clean clothes into the closet was a pain point. When there’s free space, it’s so much easier physically and mentally. Thanks, so glad to be with you !

It's MEEEE!!!! I'm the one that asked about organizing clothing when you fluctuate sizes (or at least I'm one of the people that did.) I wish it was between a size 6 and 8 that I fluctuated, LOL. But I find that I naturally do a lot of what Kay suggests. My tops span a few sizes pretty easily, and my pants tend to veer toward the larger size and I just wear a belt when I need to. Huge fan of stretchy fabrics. But I also have some size specific favorites that live in bins on my closet shelf labeled "fat clothes" and "skinny clothes." I also have some wishful thinking clothes I should probably just donate.

The "quantity police" really gets me. We are a large family living through 4 seasons of the year in our climate (snow pants, snow boots, swimwear and beach gear etc) and we celebrate all the holidays (Valentine's, St Patrick's Day, Easter etc). Add in recreational and sporting good items; we have so much 😮. Don't forget prepper stuff we've been told to have for emergencies 😕. Where does one put it all?🤷🏻♀️

I have bins in the basement for the out of season stuff (but living in Canada, everything must be readily accessible) For example, outerwear is on rolling racks, with a clear plastic cover. My (now adult) kids favourite bin of mine is "Adventure Gear". I like "rough" traveling, and the clothes and shoes for that go into those bins. Also because I am neurospicy, I HAVE to have all my bins match AND be clear, AND be Labeled with BIG letters. It costs more to do it that way (clear matching bins) but my peace of mind is worth it.
@dah8789Күн бұрын
@@astriddeslandes2373 great plan, I find I'm often digging through different storage bins to find things. They aren't clear and they are mismatched and you are right about needing to be easily accessed throughout the year. I find I struggle with that. Thanks for your tips.

Thanks for tip about having a hook to hang up the "worn but not dirty yet" clothes. I have to change my clothes a few times daily for different activities that require specific clothing and so always end up with clothing in that category, usually just leave on top of the dresser in a pile (which bothers me because it's so untidy looking).

My closet is fortunate enough to have 2 shelves above the tall hanging rod! 🎉 Also, for your folks who can’t be bothered to even put the item you plan to rewear onto a hanger or back in the drawer, get a “rewear basket”. I came up with this a few years ago and it has made my floor-drobe non existent! It works for my ADHD brain and when I realized it had been working for me, I shared it on a local ADHD fb group, and I converted some ladies over there too!

Ohh since I was a kid I needed specific hangers for specific clothes. Dark Green for school clothes (I lived in an area with public school uniforms after Columbine) and white for casual clothes. Now all of my hangers are plain plastic white hangers but they all match. I HAVE to recommend the hangers that fold, that hold 5 hangers on one. I have the Wonder Hangers, they work so perfectly in my closets that don't really exist to pack in clothes and I sort them by sleeve length 😊

I have trouble with the rolled up stuff in drawers because the items are not the same size so they don't roll in a nice neat row. But maybe I could have another try because the socks are out of control as are the lingerie things...but your other tips I have working pretty well.
@Kristi1974K29 күн бұрын
I have two rows of socks “rolls”- one for longer and one for shorter with a divider between. When I but them away, I but at the back and I crab them at front so they will worn out pretty similar. Most of my socks are same, so it’s easy to do so. Because the size of the drawers or lingerie type or my personality it doesn’t work for my lingerie but I can live with that.

I love Marie Kondo, but her spark joy concept didn’t work for me for clothes, especially, because most of my clothes are functional (no joy lol) and the ones that spark joy are cocktail dresses, a few suits, formal wear, etc. So, I ended up with “which ones do I use the most because they look best on me” decision-tree.

I put the once worn items back in the closet after airing * inside-out * so I can see at a glance that they might need a sniff test or could be added to a laundry load that isn’t full. My closet is 4 feet wide, 4 feet deep, with 10ft ceilings. Thank you for telling me to stop trying to make the side wall storage happen. I have a little area there for hooks and space so I can stand and see myself in the mirror on the other side wall. The main wall has shelves all the way up to the ceiling though, with a step stool and tippy toes I can reach almost everything easily.

I recently watched a video where a couple did their own closet, it was gorgeous and seemed well planned out. At the beginning their closet was shown with one hanging bar going around 3 sides of the large room, and it was full, didn’t look you could hang anything else. After the update there were multiple level hanging bars, with very little vertical space, and bars with built ins just below them. I really wanted to see how they managed to get all the clothes back in the closet, but it closed just showing the empty spaces. It was so well done ,but I’m sure they didn’t take measurements of how much vertical spaces are needed for hanging. So, my advice, go for function, then they pretty.

I have two. One for my “cleaning closet” and one for my coat closet. The baskets are great and I have them labeled so the kids know where to put things back. I found the pegboard to be less useful (using to hang attachments for the duster/mop). They were very easy to install by myself. Be sure to measure everything so you know those tall bottles fit or the large/wide containers.

I hate the matching hangers "tip". Every single organisation "expert" reiterates it as nauseam as if they had just reinvented the wheel. Take it from someone who knows how to sew: different fabrics/garments just need different hangers to retain their shape and fit. many should not be on hangers at all. Match your hangers = make your clothes look good in the closet and frumpy when worn. Great tip, thanks! 😂
