Love the guided tour of the New Quay area. The passenger-eye-view bombing around Wales in Twc is wonderful. Could watch that all day. Very pleasing to see parts of Wales my parents would have known - we left the UK for New Zealand when I was 5 and settled in Australia when 13, so that trip was very fun to watch too.

Quote: "I'm terrible..." Possibly, Ian, possibly, but last week I went on ebay to buy a couple of bits for Saffron, the Wartburg 353 S. I found what I needed, but then a rather lovely Austin Maxi caught my eye. The Maxi is being delivered on Tuesday! Oops, I did it again. In my defence, I could have bought an Austin Westminster instead but took the sensible option. So I put it to you, Sir, terrible you are not.😊

Those uphill stretches is really where that CVT shines: effortless! No frantic downshifting and clutching. Just mash the accelerator, keep momentum and GO. When i was still living with my parents we had neighbors who owned a Volvo 340 variomatic (67hp) and also a midsize caravan. They would take that combination to the Alpes! No problems negotiating Alpine passes. Later i decided i wanted a 340 variomatic myself. Brilliant tech!

With all the people pushing their false-memory "golden age" older times rhetoric, it's in a way good to remind people today that those older times were utterly awful for a lot of people back then, where life was made very difficult if you were "different", either your class, abilities, skin colour or even hair colour, the past was the worst...

TWK is, and always has been a favourite of mine on the fleet. Great to see her in such good hands, and commanding lots of attention, of a more positive nature, wherever she goes. I love TWK stickers would be highly appropriate by now. I first saw TWK when you lived close to a railway line, where steam trains would sound their whistles as they passed by. Happy days.

I would be afraid of it tipping over and get badly hurt as so little structure and protection. Yes, it is great we have more enlightened attitudes of 'others' don't use words, descriptions and depictions that are offensive. Sadly thought, in many places, too many people see that as 'woke' or being 'politically correct'.

As always, Ian, fun and entertaining. Well said about how lsnguage has evolved. Not just in reference to the differently abled but also religious references and hair and skin colour. Also when referencing the LGBTQ2+ communities. Even I, as a member of the latter, has trouble remembering all the letters. The effort to be specifically inclusive is beginning to be exclusionary. Wonderful to see both Ellie and TWK getting exercise. They are such iconic vehicles. I doubt I will ever see an Invacar over here, but every so often I do see a 2CV. They make me smile every time.

Blimey! Looking at the odo, you've clocked up nearly 5000 miles in Twk! Wow! That's nearing a sixth of her total milage since first registered. A bit of a milestone there, eh? I think she was 28,832 or similar when you picked her up. Still great to see (and hear) her out and about. Always lovely to see the Elly the 2CV doing her thing and hearing Pete Sparrow's strong little engine in it making all sorts of rorty noises. I loved how the camera gimble did its best when you took Elly through a corner and she heeled over as she does. I don't think the gimble was quite sure what to do about it! How would Myrtle be for Little Miss Hubnut when she's driving? Keeps the car in the family at least....and keeps Myrtles wheels turning too. Obviously she needs a bit of fettling first, but that's another way to justify keeping the car for more than sentimental reasons....which shouldn't be discounted, but nevertheless at the same time must sadly be weighed up against the room she takes up, her upkeep and such. She is another iconic little car on the fleet (well, to me anyway!) and I'd dislike seeing it come down to a financial decision whether she stays or not. All the best

Just wish I had access to an Invacar when I was stuck in a wheelchair for 6 months in the 60's. The British Railways staff were magnificent carrying me in the chair up and down the stairs at the stations to and from school, had to travel in a baggage van as the chair too wide for the doors and corridor. Worst part was the 2 mile trundle to and from home, lucky it was flat just a couple of dropped kerbs to negotiate. It was a bus route but no access to an RF bus. Two burly Prefects did the honours with all the many stairs and toilet visits at school, one of whom put me in the chair with a very nasty illegal tackle on the Rugby field aided by an unpadded goalpost, retribution and punishment. Learning to walk again once spine and pelvis had healed was hard. Very lucky that no permanent nerve damage, that surprised the Doctors and Surgeons.

That's a massive drop from the 25k miles pa I used to do twenty years ago when it was my only car. The little 1932 Morris Minor is doing more miles now. Must admit I really wish we’d adopted the French quadricycles in the 70s. As a little city car they’d have been brilliant. Now we have Citroen trying to bring the electric Ami but there’s a resistance among drivers against these little cars, yet if we had a history of them, they’d be welcomed. Would fit the profile for so many people, both electric and petrol versions. Ah well, never mind.
@mfbfreak2 ай бұрын
They're a double edged sword. On the one side, they are smaller and better for the local environment than a normal car. If people replace their normal car with a quadricycle, there is a benefit. On the other hand, the top speed is very limited, and they cause a lot of problems on 80km/h roads here where they can barely do 50km/h (depending on model and legislation) - and where overtaking is often not allowed. Finally, they're often less crash safe than a 2cv, while 16 year olds can bomb around in them with a moped license which you can get with 3 hours of on-road instruction here. Which is why i regularly see them on cycle paths where they are absolutely not allowed, because... Well, they're too large for cycle paths, taking up an entire lane and forcing cyclists to make space for something that is supposed to be on the car road. But kids will be kids and do stupid things. In cities and towns, you should just get a bicycle. An e-bike if you're living in as hilly a place as in the video. A moped if you need to cover larger distances than an e-bike battery can carry you. A motorcycle if you need to get onto the highway at full speed. The big problem is over here, that people replace mopeds and bicycles with quadricycles, making the parking space problem and traffic congestion worse. I get it, you want to stay dry in the rain, but the additional parking space needed is not a problem to ignore. The upgrade path is usually not car to quadricycle, but quadricycle to car. A moped or motorcycle and a rain suit keeps you literally drier than a 2cv ever will, and you won't sweat because you're not getting any exercise.

The thing a lot of the DM reader types don't realise when they talk bad about people getting cars on the Motobility scheme is that it is no different to them taking a car on a lease, in fact it's basically just that. Those who want a larger car for whatever reason have to put down a larger initial payment, just like anyone else leasing a larger car. There could be many reasons a disabled person requires a larger car such as an SUV, for example being able to carry walking aids or fold up wheelchairs if it is their spouse that is disabled. As for the benefits paid, being disabled often carries large extra expenses such as the cost of modifying a home, extra heating costs, extra energy costs if the person relies on medical equipment being available 24/7 and it's these extra expenses that benefits like PIP are designed to help pay for.
