I've been bouncing around the borders of The Netherlands, with a foray across into Germany, a castle and a great many classic cars - some of them eye-wateringly valuable. I also rode a bike and had a minor fail-to-proceed with Elly the 2CV...

Ian, some unsolicited advice - Don't fall into the trap of taking too much notice of negative comments. I've seen channels focus way too much on a tiny number of negative comments, ignoring the hundreds and hundreds (sometimes thousands) of positive ones. Constructive criticism is good to listen to and all of us can learn a thing or two, but you're always, ALWAYS going to get moaners and negative people no matter what you do. You're doing absolutely fine. I believe people come to your channel because they love your approach to making videos. They appreciate the sharp and welcome contrast you offer compared to the countless boring car review channels out there that might slickly record and edit their videos of exotic machinery in five camera angles of 8K Ultra or whatever, but are also great for combating insomnia.

I like your camera style, it feels more ‘real’ than some overproduced videos. I have tried video editing myself and I found it a time eating soul sucking experience where I gained no enjoyment from it so I am amazed you can travel, shoot all this interesting footage and then edit it on the road and still give us great content.

This may well bring in the big numbers but its not what im on youtube for. I love strraightforward on topic content. and thats what i get on this channel. And yesm video or photoediting is time consuming work and also requires a good bit of planning ahead.

Seriously, your videos are so much more engaging than the travel shows broadcast on television with their irritating format and violin plucking music. That garage was a real find and yes the early 80's Alfa Giulietta was perfect. Like you, I have always wanted one. A white one powered by a 1.6 twin cam complete with steel wheels please.

For a Dutchman it was quite a shock for me to see how dangerous cycling is in the UK. I even saw cyclists on a dual carriageway with traffic flying past at 60 mph. Unthinkable here! And helmets are only mandatory on speed pedelecs capable of doing 30-ish mph.
@Zeem4
@Zeem4 5 жыл бұрын
@dukeburger5 There are plenty of hilly parts of the world with high levels of bicycle use. The problem in the UK is that it's been entrenched in people's minds for decades that important, attractive and successful people drive cars, and people who ride bicycles are poverty-stricken subhumans who "don't pay their way". I enjoy cycling and driving (although not at the same time), but it's a shame that I can't just do either with equal convenience.

Dual carriageway speed limit is 70 - so they'll not be whizzing past the bikes at 60 but 80 mph. The "Queensway" is a tunnel under Birmingham City Centre - dual carriageway with 40 limit. I cycle on that although the police don't !

@@Zeem4 It's people lower down the food chain who react to bicycles negatively. Those whose sense of self is wrapped up in their vehicle, as well as most of their cash. Someone pedalling into their brittle world on a bike does all kinds of weird stuff to their ego. My two penn'oth says cars are past their sell by date in cities and large towns. Just too much grief for all concerned.

I recently bought a camping gas cooker. It's really small and makes lovely tea. You do need decent tea bags. Cooking is possible on it and I've cooked bacon on it for bacon sambos but I'm no chef. A freezer bag is handy to have aswell.

I agree, I like the idea of Cooking By a river or lake or similar. I would fill the car with Useful items. Even Take a large estate car & Inflatable Mattress & Sleeping Bag. Pull up somewhere & sleep for a couple of hours. It must be a Nightmare Travelling that distance in a 2 CV. No Chance of Sleeping in that car. A Classic Estate of course. Would be Good. It's nice just to park up & make a Coffee. I would still use Hotels & B&B 's for a good long sleep. & Restaurants for Real Meals. Maybe a small van with 6ft Rear Floor to sleep on. ? Then Find a remote place & Camp in the Vehicle an odd night. Or in A busy city location. Where you won't get Noticed. NO OVERNIGHT CAMPING !! Err ? Drive at night & Sleep Early Mornings to miss Rush hour traffic, & Late Afternoons at Rush hour. Keep Moving. OR Pull a wire off & say waiting for a tow Truck & Fell asleep Waiting. ( you have not Rang for one ) Rattle some spanners under the bonnet & BINGO ! it works Now !! it was a loose wire . OR , Sat Nav Broken, & can't find the Hotel. Oh sorry i was so tired i forgot to switch the SAT NAV on No Wonder the screen is Blank. There Is No Law that Says you Can't be a Dozy Sod. & get lost in a foreign country. Spell the Hotel Name Incorrectly. Mix up the postcode numbers. Read it upside down in the dark ?

I'm thoroughly enjoying this journey with you Ian. I visited the NL for the first time last year and came away after a week thinking what a lovely place it was, and much of this impression was due to the unfailingly pleasant and friendly people I kept meeting. I definitely recommend not trying to do too much even if it results in your followers missing out a little on quantity; you've taken on quite a commitment and I know from personal experience that lengthy solo trips in old vehicles can be somewhat stressful. My experience has been that most of the stress is unnecessary and after a short time you just settle into the journey realising that most of what you worry about won't happen and if it does you just deal with it. The "Dealing with it" part can sometimes lead to the most enjoyable and memorable encounters too. Many thanks for your efforts. You're very good at this as is evidenced by your ever growing number of subscribers.

Everywhere looks so nice and tranquil, clean and tidy looking. I really did enjoy all the places you showed us in this film. I can't help but think our country is so backward in lots of ways compared to Europe. I'm really envious of your journey so far. Ref: to camera angles. I think some people expect a full 20th Century Fox Production and NOT the results of an amateur On-the-Go film maker. lol. Do you ever feel that created a monster with Hub Nut? You made a rod for your own back...? I had to jack it in myself, it got too much. More wants more and so on... Brilliant film as always. I love your camera angles and general style of film making. No complaints my end. Looking forward to the next one already. :-)

That Lancia Flaminia was very tasty. Now hard to believe that they were relatively disposable and a convertible one was mocked up to double for an Aston Martin DB4 that went over the cliff in the original Italian Job. Although an Aston did go over on the first take - just not as they wanted. You are stumbling upon some amazing places on this trip! Some excellent spots. A very pleasant 'amble' Mr hubNut, thank you. Lovely towns and villages and pothole free roads. Very enjoyable indeed.

I'm glad you've found Itchy Boots as well. She's great and she's also the main reason I desperately want to go to Armenia now.

I commented in a previous video of how you would nail a slot as top gear presenter, I am adding travel/holiday show presenter to that list as well with your relaxed style and dulcit tones you would nail that as well. You should apply and go for screen tests, this time next year you could be a millionaire!! If you are not already. Enjoyed the video Ian, thanks.
