Hubsan X4 (setting the gyro and other tips)

Hello everyone! I have decided to post this quick video on how to set your gryo because I have had a few people ask on how to do so. It's much easier to show someone how to do it rather than explain how to do it with text. I hope this helps in some way....

Thanks, I bought two of these drones as Christmas presents, and neither would lift off the ground. I was sure these drones sucked! Turned out both of them just had the left and right propellors reversed. Your video helped two people get their drones off the ground!

Thanks for your video. For new Hubsan X4 Owners I'd suggest using the Hubsan Prop Wrench or a thin knife blad to lift the propellers off. Otherwise you can accidently pull the little motor out and tear the leads off rendering a good motor useless. There is nothing holding the motor into place except friction. Second, twisting the battery lead in a figure eight and tucking it into its holder can also save damage to connectors and keep the quad balanced.

This weekend I added a tiny male to female mcx connector to the camera leads so you can take the shell apart to work on the quad. Now I don't have to fight the shell while soldering. Had to remount the battery connector after about 50 flights cause it wore free of the board. It is on the bottom side of the board so you have to remove the screws and gently lift the front motor and led leads from the arms to get to the contact points. The points have metal certs so you can put the wire all the way through and put a better solder joint on them than the original factory connection.

Thx. Yes, to diable the LEDs you just hold down the lower throttle trim button for one second. To turn them on again just pust the same button and hold for one second. You can diable the stunt mode for flips while in expert mode by pushing in the left stick.... push and let go quickly (dont hold down), you will hear a beep. That means that you have disabled stunt mode. Push the same stick in and let go quickly and you will now return to stunt mode for flips! Hope this helps... : )

Thanks for the video man, this calibration also worked with my Eachine CG022 which I thought I broked but all it needed was the gyro to be calibrated! (The manual came with zero instructions on that part.)

It states in the instructions to put transmitter in expert mode before calibration!! So follow instructions. If your copter still drifts lets say to to right" when spinning with rudder only, then place a few sheets of paper under the right feet and recalibrate until it spins without drifting. Hope this helps

Easier way to 'remember' to match up your props is simply go A to A (prop is marked A, and arm of quad is marked A), and B to B. Just match up the letters on the arm with the props. Simple.

Hey dude I saw in ur unboxing vid u got spare batteries for it, if u go on ebay and search hubsan x4 it will come up with some blue batteries which are more mah i thin 350mah compared to the 240mah that u have, my point is if you want a little but more flight time get them they will last longer

What exactly is the quad doing when he throttles up? You may have reset the controls on the transmitter. You can reverse them or change the percentages. This can be done in the SE mode if I remember correctly.

This sounds like the blades are on wrong as in this video. Have the propellers come off and if so have you put them on exactly as in the photos? If the left white prop is on the right it will not fly. Switch them over. It will spin but not fly. Have you crashed it hard?

Sir, I have a problem flying the Hubsan x4 h107c. The motors just won't get turning after I replaced the control board and motors. The transmitter is green though, indicating successful pairing.

Thank you for your video. The propellers at the rear seem to be oriented with the same angle in my case. Afetr asmall. Rash I replaced a propeller byt this side does not work correctly although I calibrated many times. Any adcice? Best.

Never owned a Hubsan X4, but interesting to see you can just pop off those props with fingers, yet they are strong enough to carry the quad. I thought you need at least a screwdriver...

yeah its easy to do but you can pull out inside of the motor from its housing.... You should use the wrench that is sold for removing props... It cost something like 2 dollars and could save a lot of headaches. Thanks for posting and sorry for the late reply.

All the motors are turning but its not lifting off the ground? If the props are not on correctly the gyro will fight its self. Two props turn clockwise and two turn counter clockwise. If you have used the battery till it could no longer lift itself you may have killed the battery and it will no longer take a charge. Tell me what it is doing please.

You have one left and one right for each color. You can change position but only with a left to a left and a right to a right. Color doesn't matter only the direction.

No. The h107l transmitter comes with a mock antenna. The h107c drops the unnecessary antenna which was only there for looks in the 1st place.

What does calibrating do? I have never done this and have four of these quadcopters that fly perfectly.

It sets the gryo so it knows the correct orientation. Sometimes quads may drift. This can be due to the gryo thinking that the quad isn't level. In some cases it can cause the quad the flip rather quickly and smashing it's self in the ground before it ever completely left the surface. I never experienced a problem with calibration but I have seen others with issues. Usually it's pilot error and they never let the gryo set in the first place.

It does in the case of this model. Others may not do so on their own however, most do.

thats because you got a mode 2 controller, mode 1 controller is more commonly in the US and Asia i presume you are from Europe? check out google on mode 1 vs mode 2 controller and you would know. but i guess if you want to follow this video, you have to do the opposite of it. maybe right stick bottom corner left? while left stick go left and right?

Mode 2 is left stick throttle. This is the most common and is used in most rc planes, helicopters and muli rotors. Stick with one or the other as sometimes you can get confused while flying and crash rather quickly. Again mode 2 is the most common. Some transmitters allow you to choose what mode you want to use.

Your battery may not be charged or may no longer hold a full charge. The lights will flash if your battery is low or if the signal to the quad is weak. Other than that I can't really think of anything else.

Hi mine has arrived and I accidentally purchased throttle on the right - Mode 1. When I get it going it drifts left all the time. Can you advise me how to correct this? thanks

1st, make sure it isn't you making it drift. If you use your thumbs to control the sticks as I do you will notice that your thumb natural curves to one direction as you move it up and down. I had a problem with that for a while. Lol. 2nd, are the trim settings all centered? In mode 1 the rudder is the left stick. The rudder trim is just below that stick. Make sure the trim is centered on your display. 3rd, do you need to set the gyro? Make sure you have a flat level service and reset the gyro as in the manual. I doubt it would be anything else. Usually when there is something mechanically wrong your quad will act very erratically and wont fly. Hope this helps.

I know this was a month ago, but incase you never found an answer or someone else has the same question, to switch from mode 1 to mode 2, or from 2 to 1, just follow the controller(transmitter) calibration for what mode you want it in. for example, if you want it to mode 2 (with the throttle on the left stick) hold both sticks in the upper left corners, power on the transmitter and rotate the sticks in clockwise circles a few times. then hold down any of the trim buttons (pick one, doesnt matter) for a few seconds and it'll beep. if you look on the display, you'll see a small M2 (M1 if you were setting up mode 1) on the lower right (left for M1). sorry for the late response :P

Hi there what are your flight times with the stock battery mine goes flat in 2 mins from fully charged. i took it back to the shop but they said it was ok. im sure it should last 7 mins or so. thanks

Hi! Yes, you're flight times should be longer. 5 to 6 minutes on average leaning towards the 5 minute range. Are you using 240mah batteries? This is what I used in the flight on my review. If you have over drained your battery it will no longer hold a proper charge. You can purchase a volt meter online for about 3 dollars. Either way you should have longer flight times.

Yes my battery is the stock 240mah it will last about 2 mins indoor. Outdoors doing flips and fast flight it last just 30 seconds.

Buy some new batteries. You can find them cheap at banggood.com. I buy from them often and never had a problem. It's an over seas Chinese website but I never had a problem with getting things. Again, if you do buy new batteries make sure not to over drain them. If the voltage goes below 3.7 volts per cell you risk damaging your lipo. I can't calibrate mine have tried countless times, if I hold the left stick to the left I can, but now the right joystick is backwards, ie fly forward it goes backwards etc any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

You can set the controller to any configuration you want it. This sounds like you went in to the configuration mode. I think it's called se mode. If you still have the instructions it should say how to configure your controller. I'm almost certain that you just reversed the controls.

The trim settings should remain on the transmitter. Only if you remove the batteries from your transmitter should your trims be reset.

One more thing. If you change out the battery on your quad you will have to let it set level so the gyro can zero. That is probably the problem.

just one more question, i've been watching other peoples guide on how to calibrate the hubsan x4 , and what i noticed was that they all put their controller to expert mode Before calibrating on the other hand you didnt do that, you just turned it on and calibrated. which method is better? or does both work the same?

I have had to calibrate this multi rotor a few times and I have never noticed any difference. I would imagine that it would make a difference either way because your only calibrating the gyro. The most important thing for a proper calibration is that you have the x4 on a level surface. If you set the gyro while the x4 is at an angle it will assume that this is level flight and always try to return to that angle. When calibrating keep it level, keep it level, keep it level!

Your control is amplified in comparison to normal mode. it's going to be a faster machine. It still flys very stable.

Hi Guys ! Just discard this quadri...shit ! Should be close to RC commands but, actually, it's far from easy use. I guess it's been sold to most users but, in fact, most users are going quite disappoitend by this first experience ! I'd go to a true copter instead ! easier to figure out, especcially about the remote control system. Just got my x4 with the 2mp camera,thing is the left joystick seems rather slack and will not work the throttle ,but the right hand joystick does what the left is supposed to do also it will shut off unless i turn off the transmitter,anyone help please .

It sounds as though you have your transmitter in mode 1. I believe that you can chage this from the transmitter. If you still have your instruction manual the steps to change your mode should be covered in it. Right now I don't have access to my quad or the manual. As for the slack on the left stick, they usually don't have a return to center on the throttle. It will center left and right but not up and down. This is because if you want to power off the throttle you don't want it returning to 50 percent throttle on its own.

I don't have the quad or the manual with me but it sounds like the transmitter and the quad need to be bound. I don't remember how to do this with using the manual. Sorry I can't help. However, try looking up binding x4 with transmitter on KZbin.

Limited information on why it wont fly. Poor explanation. EZ fix : How bout matching prop marked "A" to the arm marked " A". Same goes for prop " B" matched to arm marked"B". Colors don't matter. "A" and "B" do. its that easy. Not sure why this guy doesn't know one of the most basic aspects of this great little quad. Tough machine. I flew mine in to the lake and it sat under water in 3 feet of water .... and the lights were still on. I pulled the battery and dried it all off that night and the next day on a window sill with a breeze. Came right back to life like new. Thats tough !! Did the same thing with my JJRC v686 , and it still flies great. ONE OF THE BEST QUADS OUT THERE !!!

FIRST of all, HOW did you manage to put (and hold the left STICK) the left stick DOWN and locked?!??!?!?!

Agustin Conti The throttle is on the left stick and should not have a spring attached to it. I should be able to set the throttle to any percentage and let go of the stick and the stick should not move. However, the left stick does have a spring which allows the stick to center itself horizontally. I have to hold left or right if I wish to continue turning left or right.

Maybe because two things are not happening on my end as seen on the video: the left stick is not locked down as shown and the word hubsan with the flag blinks on my controller.
