The Huck had to rebuild the bridge over butternut creek because it was old, and I put together this video of the various stages of the the first trial runs over it.

The stringers look like the ones from the zoo trestle on the old east loop. If that's the case that was a wise decision. The real question comes down to how the abutments were built. The original zoo trestle had wood boxes filled with stone for abutments and they started moving so we had to shorten the bridge. We rebuilt part of this trestle in 1981 with new timbers. It is not that hard to replace timbers. I bet they didn't know how.
