Went to Leeds road the same season with Burnley, Night match finished 0-0. I remember the atmosphere from the. Huddersfield crowd it was electric. Loved Steve Kindon when he played for Burnley, I think he was Huddersfields top scorer that season ,1980/81.

Great memories of my youth in the East Terrace. Some great football by legends of the game and challenges you won’t see nowadays - this was proper football. Thanks Barnsley for sharing this.

Remember this game as if it was yesterday. Town were on a great run at the time and Terry Austin was banging in the goals for fun. Barnsley were 20 matches undefeated and thus also a form team hence the big attendance for a third division game. But it was Town that held the aces and deservedly won the game. The atmosphere was electric and we had just beaten the league leaders, Rotherham Utd, the week before so that added to the expectancy in the Huddersfield crowd. The goal and non-goal were odd though as the second one that was disallowed was due to a foul committed by a Barnsley player yet the ref struck off the goal and awarded Town a free kick, strange. However, it was all part of that season for Town who were the unfortunate victims of other odd circumstances: the referee diflected the ball into the Town net at Hull City and Town lost 2-1; think it was Swindon away where a similar thing happened and Town lost 1-0; there were numerous penalty decisions turned down and goals that should have been allowed were disallowed. All in all we ended up just missing out on promotion.

Hi Joseph, I was at that game, & a regular fan from before the 1st division games in the early 70's. (Ian Greaves days in 2nd div) Barnsley brought 10-thou on the day, behind the open end goal. The Cowshed, at the other end held 4,000. There were 6,000 seats. = approx 19-20thou. The East Terrace facing the cameras was HUGE, I don't know of you're familiar with he old Leeds rd, but to suggest there were LESS people packed in there, (& they were) then there were Barnsley fans behind the goals is a hood wink. It was lets say 'suggested' in those times, Turnstile operators used to keep the release peddle down, & for every 10 they let through, only 8 clicked the counter. defo more than 29,000 on the day, 👍

How is that not flagged for offside for the first goal? And the second goal they scored he disallowed it for a foul for them! Shocking refereeing!

What shade of bloo doo Hudderfielders normally historically play in. Looks somewhat like WBA strip who are dark blue stripes.
